You control a character with stats such as Attack, Defense, HP and more.  And by adventuring and overcoming challenges, these stats will increase, so that by the end of the journey your character is DIFFERENT THAN and IMPROVED FROM the way he or she was at the start.  This is different than static, non-RPG characters such as Pitfall Harry (Pitfall!), Panama Joe (Montezuma's Revenge), Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Yucatan Sam (Quest for Quintana Roo) who are same at the end as they were at the start.
