Monitor arms

My dual monitor arm unit arrived yesterday, so I set it up last night and moved my main work computer back into my office. I have 5 other computers for work, but left them in the dining room for now. I connect to them via Remote Desktop, so as long as they're on the network it doesn't matter where in the house they are located.

I was really impressed with Ergotron's packaging. Unlike the "bag o' parts" that you normally have to dig through, the parts are in long plastic bags that are compartmentalized, and each section is clearly labeled

For the prior 8 days (May 7-14), while getting used to it with my MacBook Pro, I walked 19.2 miles before/after work and have dropped 2.5 pounds.

So far today I've walked 4.1 miles. You might have expected more - but I've decreased the speed since I'm now on it all day instead of just an hour or so in the morning, with another hour or so at night. I'll ramp up the speed as I get used to being on it for extended periods of time.

I use a KVM so I can share one of the 24" monitors with my Mac. I used Mac's built in screen as the secondary display, so had planned to position the Mac on the desktop behind one of the monitors. That way I could just move the monitor out of the way - didn't work out so well (too cluttered), so I'm now using the Mac in clamshell mode. I have a feeling this will spur me to get a new Mac sooner, rather than later.

Edit: exercise log since returning from Colorado Springs

Just got my treadmill today.

Getting work done is fine and all… but I prefer a different view:

Figured this will be a good way to catch up on Doctor Who.

Nice!

Walking while I work is working out well for me - I returned from my Colorado Springs trip 8 pounds up, have already dropped 5 of them.

Does your unit keep a log to show on the built in screen? Mine doesn't have a screen, it keeps track by connecting to the computer (via bluetooth) then their application updates a web site. I've added the detail page for this past week to the blog entry(we returned late Monday night, I resumed work on Wednesday).

I've already put in 0.7 miles this morning, but it doesn't show up yet as the web site only gets updated when I pause the unit.

It keeps track of the current session and overall distance/time. If I bought the (optional) iFit module, it would have more tracking features, but that also requires a way-overpriced subscription fee for the service. A pen and paper work just as well.
