Quadrants vs Sectors

SpiceWare

When I announced Draconian, I wasn't sure if we'd be using Quadrants or Sectors. Turns out, we're using both!

The new menu options are:

  • Quadrant: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta
  • Sector: what used to be the level selector. Range varies per quadrant
  • Level: Kids, Easy, Normal, Hard

Nathan's been busy doing stellar cartography of the sectors of Alpha Quadrant (i.e. he's mapping out the Midway levels). They're turning out exceptionally well. As an example, here's screenshots of Midway's Round 11 and Draconian's Sector 11 of Alpha Quadrant:

Beta, Gamma and Delta Quadrants have some test data in them that will be revised in future builds. Beta Quadrant will be based on the Namco levels, Gamma Quadrant will be new levels created just for Draconian, while Delta Quadrant will be for an AtariAge level design contest. For that I plan to add a page to my website that will let you enter the information and create one-off ROMs of your level design(s). Won't see this until sometime next year.

Currently [difficulty] Level just changes the number of space objects (asteroids and mines) that appear in each of the 32 horizontal zones. Up until now there's always been 4 objects per zone. Now its 1, 2, 3 or 4 based on the selected level.
