Repainting the house
Thought for sure I'd be back into the 2600 by now, but been too busy with other things like household maintenance.
Started off by sanding the garage door to get rid of a small amount of rust. Primed the previously rusty areas with Rust-oleum, then put an additional primer coat of Killz over the entire door as the paint had faded in an odd way (the top-right panel was noticeably darker than the rest of the door). Mom & dad helped replace the board on the left that had started to rot at the bottom:
They also helped replace the split boards around all the windows on the backside of the house. The afternoon Texas Sun is extremely harsh on that part of the house - you can see how much the paint has faded were the water hose box used to be (also contrast it to the front of the house, which gets hit by the morning sun). Some of the darker areas are the result of my power washing the house as part of my preparation for the repainting.
Still have one board to replace - the sun didn't damage it, but the board split lengthwise while we were removing the old vertical boards. My neighbor helped me pick up the new board yesterday after work as the 12 foot board wouldn't fit in my folks' car (and there was no chance of it fitting in my S2000! )
Decided it was a good time to replace the front and back doors and have them on order - they should arrive in another week or so. With new entry doors come new door knobs. I'd been having issues with some of the door knobs int the house "snagging" when they were turned, so I opted to replace all of them throughout the entire house.
Old door knobs:
New door levers:
Dad suggested the levers as they're easier to open with his arthritis (which I suspect I'm starting to develop ). Still have about half the door knobs to replace - but those doors need their paint touched up first and I'm not going to worry about that until after I've finished repainting the outside.
