And yet still another small diversion

And my home video arcade grows! Last time, I added three new Tiny Arcade games: Galaga, Dig Dug and Frogger. This time, it's Q*bert and Tetris: In my first review of these, I mentioned Q*bert as a good candidate for becoming one of these Tiny Arcade games. I didn't think they'd make it though, because it requires the joystick to be turned 45°. Well, they actually did it - and it plays really well! Q*bert moves pretty quickly, and Ugg and Wrongway come out almost immediately in the second lev

And yet another small diversion

A couple of things I didn't mention about the mini-arcade games from Super Impulse that I've been collecting: First, they're sold with keyrings attached. They're a bit too large and impractical to be a keyring though: Second, they don't have a coin door on the front sticker. It would've been that much cooler had they added a little coin door and had the coin slots backlit. But that probably would've been cost-prohibitive. The irony is, you couldn't actually fit a quarter into the cabinet an

And then...

I've just been buried at work lately.   And by lately, I mean since early August. Non-stop. Tons of (unpaid) overtime.   I worked 90 hours one week. 20 hours in one day.   And those weren't even in the same week.   But things are starting to calm down. A little bit.   I had to supervise two major construction projects, including the building of an all-new computer lab for running Maya. We were put six weeks behind schedule due to construction issues (and asbestos removal), but fortun

And then...

Well, it's January. Barely, but it's still January.   So it's time to dust off the old "To Do" list, and see what I have left to do in the upcoming year.   First, let's check the previous list(s)...   From February, 2006: Make "To-Do" List - This one never ends. Finish Colony 7 Sprites - Done! (game in progress) Finish Lady Bug sprites - Done! (and in the store) Make label for Four-Play - Done! (and in the store) Make Juno First sprites - Done! (game in progress) Make list of w

And then that happened...

Been piecing away at this one for a few weeks now...     May 5th, 2011...   Remember this entry? It featured the first appearance of the HD can-of-worms which we were just about to open up at work.   Four years ago.   Well, in honor of us finally achieving high-defness at work, I decided to finish it up in color.     Ooooooo...     I painted over the original sketch in Painter, and it just looked better with the sketch left intact, rather than a clean background. Not sure w

And the loser is... XBox 360!

So, it's time to tackle the latest console wars.Get comfortable... this is going to take awhile. Sony vs. MicrosoftThe XBox 360 is going to sell a lot of units, and eventually make money for Microsoft. But they're going to be second place to Sony, even before the PlayStation 3 is launched. The reasons for this have to do in part with the technical specs of the systems, the games available at or after launch, and brand loyalty. And while those are all going to be contributing factors, none of thos

An Observation

So I'm at an Apple Store right now, checking out the latest tech, and in hindsight, it probably wasn't the best idea to put the store so close to a Five Guys Burgers 'n' Fries... 'cause man, I'm gettin' this iPad screen greasy!

An incomplete history of portable racing games - part 1

If you didn't grow up during the 70's, it's hard to relate just how cool it was the first time I saw a digital watch. Not the kind we have now and are so commonplace they're given away in cereal boxes and gumball machines, but the red LED ones that cost a fortune and drained batteries so fast you had to press a button to turn on the display.   They were undeniably the coolest thing in town.   That, and pocket calculators.   There was just something magical about those glowing red digits.

Alpo Cow Lips

"Weird Famine" Yankovic doesn't quite have the ring to it that "Weird Al" does, but with his latest album, the Alpocalypse is upon us:     Alpocalypse is Al's first album in five years (his longest break). He had quite the challenge in following up Straight Outta Lynwood, which was one of his strongest and most successful albums in his 30+ year career. (Yes... "Weird Al's" been around that long.)   There are no apocalyptic-themed parodies on the album. Rather, according to a recent interv

Almost forgot!

Well, I've been so busy this month, I had almost forgotten that October marks the third anniversary of my blog.   Unlike my 200th Blog Entry Spectacular, I'm not planning anything special for the occasion. Mainly because I already missed it.   But it does give me an excuse for my annual reminder that once again - Baskin Robbins has pumpkin pie ice cream! I've already picked up my first quart.   (Don't forget to try it with a scoop of their chocolate. Good stuff.)   Anyway, I need to ge
