Weeks to Live Instead of Months

Continued from my previous blog entry. A bunch of stuff happened since the last time I posted, but I haven't had enough spare time or energy to type it in. Her chemo doctor's nurse called on Thursday (Jan 26) and said that my mother's blood test showed signs that something was wrong, so they called to have an ambulance take my mom to the hospital. The chemo doctor told my sister today (Jan 28) that my mother suddenly has cirrhosis of the liver and has weeks to live instead of months. I'll jump

There Is a Spoon and It's No Longer Bending

Continued from my previous blog entry. My mom has been back on half a steroid pill for almost three weeks. Some days are better than others. On the 25th (Christmas day), she used a spoon with her right hand and was able to eat without dropping it or bending the spoon the wrong way. She also used her right hand to screw on a water bottle cap without any problems. She's back to mostly using her left hand again, but maybe she'll try her right hand more often now. Please Don't Send Flowers = You're Evil! (Simulacrum of Altruism)

Continued from my previous blog entry. I made my mother a new Amazon wishlist in case any of her friends or family members feel like buying her something that she might need or want: http://amzn.to/2hUkQ4F Most of her friends and family members probably won't send her anything now since they're angry that I asked them to send anything but flowers earlier this month. My mother appreciates the gesture when somebody sends flowers, but when I set the latest flowers next to her, she said "pew, th

Steroids to the Rescue!

Continued from my previous blog entry. My mom chose to do the short version of radiation instead of dragging it out for six weeks or whatever it usually is. It would have only taken two weeks, but the Thanksgiving holiday caused the days to be stretched out into a third week. She also took a chemotherapy pill called Temozolomide the night before each radiation treatment. My mom was taking a steroid pill called Dexamethasone two times a day, but she eventually had to cut that down to half a pil

My Mom Is Probably Going to Die Within the Next 12 Months

Continued from my previous blog entry. It has been confirmed that my mom has the bad stuff in her brain. We saw the radiation doctor and the other doctor that handles the special pills on Monday and my mom decided to go through with it since they said the side effects aren't as bad as what you see on TV and in the movies (and the fact that she'd probably be dead within 4 months without any treatment). With the treatment, she might live for 11 months to a year. That will give her extra time to wr

Possible Grade IV Glioma

Continued from my previous blog entry. My mother had two CAT scans and a special MRI on Thursday. Then she had the biopsy on Friday. The neurosurgeon said that it could take over a week to find out for sure, but based on his experience, it looks like a Grade IV glioma to him. The neurosurgeon showed my sisters some images from the latest MRI and they took some photos with their smartphones. Here's one showing the thing on the left side of my mom's brain: It's bigger than what was in the M

My Mom Saw the Neurologist Today

If you read my previous blog entry, you know that my mother supposedly had five brain lesions near the back of her brain. That was total bullshit. The people at the hospital probably couldn't read a stop sign. My mother went to the neurologist today and he showed us sliced up MRI images of my mother's brain from two directions. Any person off the street could see that she has a large tumor-like thing near the center of her brain (about as big as a grown man's entire thumb that goes a nearly equa

Do you know anybody who has brain lesions?

My mother got an MRI recently at a hospital and found out that she has brain lesions near the back of her brain. I think they said there were five. Rumor is that she got those brain lesions from taking Tramadol, but there is no proof. She has been slowly getting worse, having trouble speaking (can't find the right words or says the wrong words), gets numbers and letters wrong when reading, writing or typing, dropping things out of her hands more often, confusion about random things, and so on.

Our Fart Booth Up in the Sky

This was kind of funny. At around 2 hours and 50 minutes into it, Gwen Ifill said "our fart booth up in the sky" on PBS during day 2 of a famous 2016 convention: Random Terrain Amazon Wish List

LG Blu-Ray Player With Wi-Fi

When I got an Amazon Fire Stick last year, I gave my Blu-Ray player to my mother since my Samsung HDTV only has two HDMI ports. My sister was becoming irritated that I couldn't watch Blu-ray movies, so I thought a good thing to do would be to buy a Blu-ray player that could also play movies and TV shows from Amazon. I could kill three birds with two HDMI ports . . . or something like that. I bought an LG BP550 Blu-Ray Player with Wi-Fi from Amazon. The Blu-ray part works like any other player,

Nice HDMI Switcher With Remote Control

My Samsung HDTV only has two HDMI ports, but I need to plug in three things, so I searched Amazon for HDMI splitters and found out that they are called switchers. The Zettaguard HDMI switcher looked like one of the best ones that Amazon had for an affordable price, so I bought it. The image below shows one switcher on top of another so you can see the front and back (only one comes in the box).   You can turn on the picture-in-picture, but it's basically useless for live TV in the corner whi

View-Master Virtual Reality Is Disappointing

I tried the View-Master Virtual Reality viewer using an iPhone 5S and the Destinations View-Master Experience Pack. I had to search through a bunch of YouTube videos just to figure out how to . After getting it set up and snapping in the phone, I was finally ready for an amazing 3D experience. ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8XTpCwicwE Every image I looked at in the Destinations pack didn't seem to be in 3D. It just looked like plain old QuickTime VR panoramic photos. After being und

Seaweed Assault Code Is on the bB Page

It took almost 2 months, so I'm very happy to be done cleaning up the code for Seaweed Assault: randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-commands.html#ex_seaweed_assault It was tedious work, but I'm glad I did it so it will be easier for me to adapt some of the code for other programs. Now it's time to get Gyvolver finished. Random Terrain

Dream About Video Panels Attached to Walls and Ceiling

In the dream, I was viewing a video at a web site similar to YouTube. A company was pushing their new product; video panels that attach to every inch of the walls and ceiling of a room. The panels could display anything, but the company was promoting their realistic computer recreations of underwater ocean scenes to make you feel like you are standing at the bottom of the ocean (where there is still enough light to see and there are schools of fish and other creatures). The computer recreations

Perpetual Motion Dream

I was walking around in the backyard of a place I lived in the dream and found a large stainless steel washer or gasket. The outside diameter was around 4 and a half inches and the inside diameter was about 4 inches. The thickness was about a half an inch. It kind of looked like one of the rings below, but it had straighter edges: I started playing around with it and noticed that when I spun it on one of my fingers, if I tilted my finger at certain angle, the ring would keep spinning and neve

Back to Gyvolver (Atari 2600 WIP)

I've been cleaning up the code for Seaweed Assault so I can put it on the batari Basic page and ideas about Gyvolver (the unfinished scrolling game from 2008) have been popping into my head. It could take the rest of January before the Seaweed Assault code is ready for people to see, so I thought I'd post this to help get Gyvolver off my brain for the rest of the month. (Has it really been almost 8 years since I started working on Gyvolver?) Not that long ago I thought I might turn Gyvolver in

Giant Space Creature May Be Heading for Earth

Someone mentioned Google Sky, so I thought I'd check it out. I started randomly clicking and zooming in on things and found a giant space creature: Giant Space Creature at Google Sky Now that it knows we've seen it, the creature might arrive just in time for Christmas and swallow the entire Earth. If it doesn't have teeth, we might survive without a scratch, but the planet would probably stop spinning and gravity might get all wacky. Good luck getting any presents from SantaJebus if that hap

Glowing Sky Photos

This morning the clouds were so bright yellow, red, and pink that it made the shades glow in an interesting way, so I grabbed an iPhone and took some quick photos before it all went away. Of course, none of the images look as good as what I was seeing with my own eyes. The photo of the shades is especially disappointing. I couldn't capture the weird glow. Anyway, below are the photos. I cropped and resized them so they'd have a smaller file size.

Personality Test: INTP-T

I stumbled upon some blog and the guy mentioned that he had an INFJ personality type according to the Briggs Meyers test, so I looked it up. I took the first free test that popped up in the search results and it claims that I'm an INTP-T: 16personalities.com/intp-personality I did not pay for their "premium profile" and I did not give them my e-mail address. Got a Frigidaire Apartment-Size Refrigerator (FFET1022QW)

The Magic Chef refrigerator that I got about 7 years ago pretty much died. A new Frigidaire refrigerator was ordered from Home Depot on September 22, 2015 and was delivered yesterday on September 26, 2015 (Saturday) at around 10 in the morning. Here are some images from Home Depot and Frigidaire: The freezer is a little smaller, but there seems to be more room in the refrigerator. I like the large shelves on the refrigerator door. Although I don't usually buy milk, it's nice to know t

My Refrigerator Died

The Magic Chef refrigerator that I got in 2008 died today. It was still keeping things cold, but the defrost thermostat or the defrost timer probably stopped working right. It made a horrible noise for a couple of seconds like two horny cats fighting a rusty robot. After that happened, it kept making a loud popping or clicking noise too frequently to be considered normal. It's hard to believe that I've had the refrigerator for almost 7 years. Feels like I just got it a couple of years ago.

Affordable LED Lightbulbs

Got 3 LED bulbs a couple of days ago and I like them so far. Each one was 2 dollars and something instead of 7 dollars or more, so I took a chance. I plan to buy more over time. They seem to be brighter than normal 60 watt bulbs, but only use 9.5 watts. They also seem to be safer than curly fluorescent bulbs. They'll supposedly last 13 years, but I doubt that. The estimated energy cost for one bulb is $1.14 a year. Update Got 12 '40s' and 8 '60s' today (Saturday, July 12, 2015). Now ever

Lost 89 Pounds So Far

In October of 2014 I reported that I lost 34 pounds. I hoped I would have lost a lot more by now, but I took a few breaks since then. I've only lost 89 pounds so far. I might be down to my ideal weight by 2016 if I stop taking so many breaks. Sometimes I just don't feel like eating lunch and I pay for it by not losing a pound by the next day. The good news is that when I take a break, I just bounce around within a range of 3 pounds. When I'm not on a break, eating 3 times a day instead of only
