Random mailbag

I hate Spam. I tried the canned meat once and didn't like it. I also hate the e-mail kind of spam. Here's an example:     Man, was this badly written. "Programs" was spelled wrong and every number was capitalized for no good reason. And not only that, foreign lotteries are illegal in the U.S. And, I didn't even enter a lottery. Why do these morons keep trying? Needless to say, I deleted this sucker, but this has been the first spam letter I've got in a while, because I only give my e-mail ad

Berenstain Bears Camping Adventure

I had doubts about this game. Could I enjoy a game meant for kids? Well, I popped it in my Game Gear and played it. And not only did I play it, I'm ashamed to say I enjoyed it. It plays like Super Mario Bros. in that you stomp on the enemies and in some levels there's a trampoline. Other than that, it's kind of like Tiny Toon Adventures for the NES. There are two major flaws in the game, though: #1: Most people would find this game easy, and #2: Even I thought it was short. The game only has 5 l

Game Gear Goodness

Finally got my butt in gear (Game Gear, that is) and bought some more rare titles today. (All rarity values are from Digital Press) Berenstain Bears is 5, and Woody Pop is 4. I bought NBA Jam, but the trouble with it is YOU CAN'T PAUSE IT! I tried to press Start during a game, but it wouldn't do anything. I also got a Frank Zappa CD for a 17-minute long song called "Big Swifty" for my long song collection. I also bought the complete works of Aristophanes and put it right next to the Odyssey &

Ren & Stimpy: Quest For the Shaven Yak

Why anyone would want a shaven yak is beyond me (I don't like watching intros.). All the other Ren & Stimpy video games I've played were pure crap (including both Game Boy entries), but the Game Gear installment is the best one I've played by far.   That's not to say it has its share of problems. It can be difficult at times (and some parts extremely impossible), the extra health items change with every level (level 1 is a TV set while in level 3 it's a shoe.), some of the later level jump

Tesserae

Continuing the onslaught of Game Gear reviews (although 2 isn't exactly an onslaught ), Tesserae is an interesting board game. I've had it on the Game Boy for a little while, but I just got it for the Game Gear when I bought the system a week ago, and the definite difference between any Game Boy and Game Gear game is COLOR! Although, in this game, color doesn't really matter like it did in Columns. The game is kind of like Marble Jumper in that you jump over pieces to eliminate them, but the boa

Super Columns

Made by Sega in 1995, Super Columns is just one of the many games based on Strat-O-Gems. Other examples include Puyo Pop for multiple platforms (including the DS) and Kirby's Avalanche for SNES. Super Columns is the game currently resting inside my Game Gear (the almost broken one ) And what sets this apart from others are a few things: Sometimes, these things fall down and cause the whole board to flip horizontally, hopefully causing a whole bunch of new chain reactions and clearing the board a

Needy

Hey, ev'rybuddy! I'm in need of some Atari 2600 games. Check out my topic in the wanted forum. It's all rarity 2s that I need right now, and I have some good NES games up for trade, like Kickle Cubicle, Loopz, Dragon Warrior, StarTropics, and a couple dozen more. Oh come on, you know you have a spare game on my list of wants, just trade with me. Anyway, I've been working on, and then stopped on, a Batari BASIC version of Surround (check that out in the bB forum), and not much else. I plan on g

More Spongy Goodness

I've been a busy beaver today, adding 5 levels to the SpongeBob game I put on here earlier. I've added a whole bunch of stuff, like ropes to climb on, extra lives, and other things. It's all explained in the instructions. I hope to add more tomorrow. I've used about 5k so far. Can you get all 5 lives at the end of screen 6?

Spongebob Squarepants!

I've noticed that there aren't that many games geared for kids on the Atari 2600. So, I'm making a platform game with Spongebob. I can't really sell it because Nickelodeon would probably sue me, so I guess you'll just have to enjoy this game with an emulator. At the intro screen, you get to pick between SpongeBob, Squidward, Plankton or Patrick, holding the game select switch. All there is now game-wise is a hole, but, like the Mr. Frog game, I'll be adding more to this game as time goes on. And

Good News and Bad News

I went to Value Village earlier, and the bad news is the same stupid 2600 games were there. The good news is that there weren't as many of the stupid 2600 games, so someone must be buying them. And that's good news because people might be inclined to drop off their games if people are seeing them being sold. All that was there this time were 2 missile commands, 2 defenders and an Activision Tennis with missing end label (Yeah, I know it's all 1 label, but the end was torn off for some reason.) T

Game Gear!

Well, kids, I finally got me a Game Gear (I keep wanting to type Game Bear for some reason). It's kinda screwy, but it works (if you keep adjusting the cord that puts it into the wall, that is.) I also got Sonic 2, Tesserae, and Super Columns for $2.95 each. Now I want to collect games for it. Right now, Super Columns is in it right now, as I tried Sonic 2 but it was too hard, and Tesserae I also have for the Game Boy. There's tons of games for it at Game Crazy, but the money I had in my wallet

The ants are back...

...and a bit earlier than previous years. I don't recall seeing this many ants in my house in mid-February, and by "this many," I mean I've seen about 10 so far in the last few days. I'm not going to bore you with the horror stories of having a bunch of ants in my house, but it sure is annoying to have to squish them all. Raid helps to kill them now, but they just keep coming back. But some woman down the street has it much worse than us. She called Orkin but they didn't seem to help, so it'd be

More Picture Disks

I decided against buying the penny because it was too expensive, and decided to go back to collecting 45 rpm vinly records with pictures on them. This latest one is from a band I've never heard of called the Dwarves. They're a pretty good rock band. This brings the total to 10. Here's a list of all 10 I have:   Beck - E-Pro Beck - Girl Can - I Want More The Darkness - Is It Just Me? 2-Hour Wundershuw

Hey, gang, I got bored, so I started a project with my camcorder called "The 2-Hour Wundershuw." It's inspired partly from stupid cable access shows. But this is the best stupid show ever made. Why 2 hours? Because that's the setting I had on the DVD recorder! Setting the show to 2 hours means I'll have to work pretty hard to make material for it. So far, I have boring pictures of the cat and dog, but I hope to coax the wonderful story of how my grandpa was friends with Johnny Carson; as well as

Pennies from Heaven...

...Make that 1 penny from Los Alamitos, California. Not many people know this, but in addition to Atari 2600 collecting, I also collect coins, specifically pennies. The oldest penny I have is from 1838, but that could change because I got back to collecting them again, and here's an ad for an 1822 VG for only $27. The first penny was made around 1792 (should've been a 300th Columbus voyage anniversary coin! ) Well, anyway, I'm not one of those people that pay ridiculous prices for them (for inst

Songwriting

There used to be a local show on the local access channel called "Songwriter's Venue." I guess the guy that hosted it died because it hasn't been on lately. Imagine me getting up on the stage and singing the following:   "You'll never guess what I am for Halloween It's the scariest costume you've ever seen if you see it on Halloween night you will run away in fright I'm Janet Reno for Halloween It's the scariest mask you've ever seen You'll be really terrified I wouldn't be surprised if

Funny how the internet works

A long time ago, back when I was just getting started with MIDI making, I jokingly did a little MIDI of Level 1 world map of SMB3 with the Sesame Street theme mixed in because someone jokingly asked me to. I got a reply saying it was cool, and then forgot all about it. After that, I unsubscribed to the Vgmusic.com forums where I posted it. Fast-forward a few years later, and today I get an e-mail about someone who found it on themushroomkingdom.net, where the people on there made fun of it. (tha

99.5 The Wolf

Well, Cal-Am is taking this thing seriously about our trailer park. 99.5, the Wolf, is apparently at our trailer park. That's the good news, the bad news is it's a country station. And in my quest to find this station online, I've come across two other stations called the Wolf and also on 99.5. The one here is KWJJ based in Portland. Why a Portland radio station would be at a trailer park in little old Salem is nobody's guess. So I'm sitting here listening to a country station when I hate countr

Naturally

I haven't been online as much the past few days because our dog's been sick. Since my mom is at work most of the day, that means I get the job of babysitting him, you know, making sure he doesn't hurt himself, etc. The good thing is he's doing a lot better now with the pills. He just vegged out on the chair most of the day today, except at 3 PM he wanted to get down off the couch, and then wanted to go outside. Well, I took him out, and all he did was just sniff around where the construction peo

Final Fantasy VI Advance

Since I don't know how to play RPGs, and since I got the game just for the sake of collecting, I'm not going to review it. But I will share with you the review of the game in this month's Nintendo Power: "Way back in 1994...Final Fantasy VI demonstrated to me just how compelling a RPG could be. Between an epic story, a diverse cast of characters, a super refined system, and graphics and music that pushed the hardware to the max, the title set a new standard in its genre. And more than a decade

One Sick Puppy

Our dog is sick again. We took him to the vet earlier today because his back legs look like they hurt because he was walking all funny, but he just sent us home with some more medicine to try. Hopefully this stuff'll do the trick this time, and if not, he'll do an X-ray to make sure that it isn't a spinal problem. Anyway, right now he's laying on the couch, and I'm worried to leave him here alone, but I'll have to because me and my mom have to go to the post office and go downtown to get the gam

Bevious

Inspired by Dragnerok X's Combat DX, I got to playing around with making a stick twirl. Then, I thought, what good use can come out of this? Then I got to thinking about Xevious for some reason (maybe because of the crosshairs). So that's when I decided to make Bevious, the B standing for Batari Basic. Since I've found Mr. Frog too challenging, I've decided to give up on it for now and start making this game. While you can start the game by pressing the fire button right away, I encourage you to

Super Bowl 41

I started taping it at 3pm and it ended at 7pm. Exactly 4 hours (well, 4 hours and 30 seconds.) The first play of the game ended in a touchdown, the first time that ever happened. Well, while the Bears made history, they lost the game, and like everyone expected, the Colts won. I lost the Super Bowl XLI contest in the Atari Age forums by 3 points. Why didn't the Colts make a field goal? They were certainly close enough to. Maybe memories of the botched extra point in the 1st quarter came up? Pri

A little sick...

Yesterday I was a lot sick. Too bad I had to get my hair cut when I was sick. But, it's a good thing the appointment ended when it did because afterwards, my head was really hot and I had to lay down for a while. That's why I wasn't on the forum (or on the internet, for that matter) since yesterday morning. I still have a whole bunch of phlegm in my throat, but at least I'm not running a fever. I just laid in bed and listened to my newly bought George Winston records I got at a thrift store (50

Happy Birthday Tom Smothers!

Tom Smothers turned 70 yesterday (can you believe it? They're still touring!), so I thought today I would listen to all my Smothers Brothers records (all three of them) in celebration. In case you haven't heard of them, the Smothers Brothers were folk singers that were very funny and very big in the 60s. They had a comeback in the 80;s. They had their own TV show in the 60's and the 80's, but their comeback was short-lived. So happy birthday Tom, wherever you are.
