2 days with the CT63

After about a month, I finally got a free ATX PSU, in about 15 minutes I installed the CT63, booted the machine and started enjoying it. The speed difference is impressive. The demos more so. First think I did was run the DHS demo Derealization. I had seen the video countless times, but a video can't convey the feeling of the real machine, doing things its designers never thought possible. This accelerator really makes for a different machine. Can't wait to explore it more. And I never thoug

Back to Atari?

So, it was recently pointed out to me that I haven't updated this for quite sometime. So I started Winjam, put on some tunes from the sndh archive and here I am. This has been a strange time for me, lots of obligations, lots of things to do, lots of things to think.. The worse is passed. But some of it will go on. Maybe from September I'll be more relaxed? We'll see. So what have I been doing (Atari related)? Talking in #Atariscne in IRCnet, writting in forums, testing apps for the upcoming

Why was the software pack created?

You might have read the announcement and you might have not. But with the help and kind offer for hosting from D-Bug, I released (and I use the I in a relatively loose sense) a small preconfigured software collection. You can find it at http://morethangames.dbug-automation.co.uk/ . What's the deal with it? As I write in the web site, nowadays most active people in the community or people that want to get into it, get an atari ST with a hard disk. But setting that hard disk up, a complete atari

Things to expect on the month to come

I haven't updated this for a long time. However my atari addiction hasn't subsided a bit. I just didn't have anything interesting to say.. Now I do. So here are 4 things to expect for this Xmas season... 1. Economic crisis getting worse 2. D-Bug 3. There are some rumours about a couple of demos to be released by the end of the next month. 4. My own pet project for desktop Atari users (yes there are a few, I think).

STOT website

My good friend kRadD has done it this time. The new STOT website is up at http://www.npoi.de/page.php?2 . Bookmark it and enjoy the content. Also not to let it slip by, this is your last chance to participate in STOT season 1. The final game is on and it's the Bitmap Bros classic Xenon II.

Outline worms

Back in Outline 08 my good friend beetle (whom you all know by his moto: Have you modded atari today?), showed me on his laptop a BASIC program that an Amstrad CPC scener had written on his laptop (yeah, I mean THAT laptop). So I took over the task to port it to the ST GFA BASIC. Most of the work was done on site but today I revisited it. Beetle wants it to become a screen saver, but since I don't really know how to do that yet, here is worms vs 0.5. Enjoy.   Music replay routine by gwEm/phf,

STOT game series

Hi, Regular readers will know about STOT. After Outline 08 we started a series of 3 newly released games for the Atari ST line of computers. The three games are Dma-Sc's Manical Drop, Sh3-rg's Sudokunivers and now is concluded with Piccrosst. Read more about them at the official STOT forum over at atari-forum.com. Random software thread series of posts.

Here is a new blog series I am going to start. I'll be presenting software, applications and utilities mostly, that I use (new stuff in most occasions). It's going to be just a teaser hopefully something that will get people trying the stuff.   So here are the two first:   Highwire:   Highwire is an open source and pretty fast browser that is:   HTML 4 compliant Supports tables, Framesets, caches for images etc. Has CSS support. Among others   Here are two videos showing it off.

Atari XrhSThs

Once upon a time in a tiny little country called Greece an Atari magazine was born, by Atari users (some of them employees of Atari.gr) but nonetheless Atari enthusiasts. Here you can find a scan of a falcon test... most of you can't read greek but that shouldn't be a problem... should it?   Oh... the quality of the scans is.. hmmm.. bad... Maybe if I am not bored later on I will rescan them.

Mega STE tweaking.

As I said on my previous post, I got a Mega STE from my good friend Beetle whom I met at Outline 08. As one would expect the Mega STE is in top form. I'll add pictures in my gallery (heh, I just found about this feature ). Now, I need to install the necessary software so that the machine becomes at it's best. Let's say a few things about it and compare it to the falcon. The MegaSTE is pretty fast, sometimes more so than the falcon. BUT it can only take up to 4 MB's of RAM. So, mirroring my

Outline 08

Just came back from Outline 08 the super Atari and not only party! It was a great experience and I am so looking forward to attending next year. Havoc, earx and the rest of the s Dutch f don't even think of not holding that. I really enjoyed meeting and talking with the people there. Maybe I can visit another party this year? Here are some crappy cell phone pics.

STOTro released.

Hi, This is my first intro, done in GFA Basic. It's planned to announce STOT @ Outline 08. Enjoy watching. Intro is for STE only and needs 2MB's of RAM (a bug discovered today hopefully will be fixed soon).     Update: STOTRO 1.1 released. Now works on Falcons as well! Also the memory bug is fixed. Now needs 1MB.   Edit: It's also on pouet.

Update?

Yeah, not much of an update. I've mostly spent my atari time taking care of my new hard disk and adding a few stuff on it. Take a look at my new desktop.. WIP

Got a jagpad

Today I received a jagpad from http://www.atari-shop.nl/. The pad arrived very well packaged and it's in perfect working order. Many thanks to Sandra for the excellent communication as well. Now on the jagpad. It's not the worse controller I've ever seen but it's definitely not the best. I'll place it in the average. But it gave me the chance to play painium disaster for the first time and I can tell you it's a really good shooter but hard. Also played zero 5 with it. Great improvement over

Falcon fixing

Three things that had to be done were done. With the help of CyranoJ and lp and the guide by techie Alison I mounted the hard disk on the RF shield, added a sony mpf 920 floppy disk drive since my epson died and repaired my VGA cable. Read the original thread here. Crappy cell phone camera pictures follow. I think my falcon looks better like this. I'll keep it that way. What do you think?

STING: Atari to PC

Here is a new version of a null modem TCP/IP connection between the atari and a PC this time with the use of the STING stack. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work with an ST or Mega STE but as usual some things are beyond us.I only have a falcon to test. Setting up the Atari: First it is imperative to install and install properly the HSModem serial port drivers. To do that we place DRVIN.PRG in the auto folder late in the running order but before the drivers and the stack. After tha

It's been a while

It's been a while since I've updated this blog. Reasons? The usual . In the news, STOT is going rather well, I am getting a bit better coding but today the courier came!   After some delay I got the new stuff of the previous blog entry. What was in there? 22Kgrs of Atari things. The seller also included a lot of Atari 8 bit stuff free of charge. Thank you CyranoJ! So here's a list of what I got (Disclaimer: there's a lot of reading to do!)   ST software: Straight Fax 2.0 Diamond Bac

Falcon Demos I put on youtube

Time to start uploading demos. Those of you who happen to know some things about me know I am a big demoscene fan. So here's my first video grab of a Falcon demo: . Here's it's Pouet page and Paranoia website under reconstruction. As usual other demos I might record in video will appear as comments under this post. Enjoy.

Another new old PC that came my way

Instead of Ataris I am always given old PCs. This time another 486 class machine. An AMD DX4/120Mhz with 16MB RAM, 1GB HD, S3 64V+ Trio graphics card and something that seems to be a Sound Blaster compatible audio card. The motherboard has 5(!) PCI slots and 3 ISA's.   Edit: Because I was puzzled by the colour (brown) and the location of the 5th PCI slot, I must conclude that it's a VESA local bus.
