Hit! Hit hard on Colecovision

I worked on my GOOMW today. I managed to tell the player hit 5 times to the enemy to beat down. I used this formula: if x player and x enemy is less than 16 pixels, punch it!   I would use check_collision but I decided my method is better.   YOU ARE IN MY WAY! TAKE THAT! Defeated. I hope he learnt his lesson. Ok. That's all for today.

New 3DS scares cats

It's annoying to take pictures/videos with my New 3DS, specialy taking pictures with cats. No matters I turn down the volume, and select attention sound to none, there always has a sound when taking pictures scaring cats. Most of time, i can only take one picture. I also have an old digiital camera, but again, it make noise when zooming and take pictures. When 'show all sprites' option is enabled

For this blog, I used 'show all sprites' option included in Colem, a colecovision. Then I played the following games, Donkey Kong, Kiwi's Beach Clean Up and GOOMY!, an beat'em up game I'm working. Both Donkey Kong and Kiwi's Beach Clean Up, are flicker free now. However, GOOMY! is still flickering as bad because the game remove some sprites and add them in some cycles, to make sure we can see all the sprites on the screen. GOOMW! A scrolling game?

I browsed Atariage when I found into this topic: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/288856-rallyx-scrollingcolecoz80source/ Kiwi released a program and an open source to show how to scroll 8 directions on Colecovision. So I write down the code and compiled it. It's incredible! So I start thinking: how about making GOOMW! to scroll, once the player beat down all opponents and go to the next screen, the background should scroll, like most brawler games do. Tutankham: pfff

Tutankham is a good potential game ruined by the gameplay. You are an explorer, collecting keys and treasures. In the way, there are monsters in the burial chambers to shoot them. The problem is, you can shoot left and right but not up and down. I will make a similar game where the hero shoots all four directions, collecting treasures, or maybe other stuff.

GOOMW!

I worked on GOOMW! (Get Out Of My Way!) today. What's new: - Pressing keypad 1 or 2 won't cycle weapons likes crazy. Needs to improve/add: - How NOT to display five numbers using print_at with variables. No one wants to see 'LIFE=00006'. - Sounds. This game deserves to have sounds. - Of course we need ACTION! I'm still thinking about it. Here the new rom: ok 16.rom You need a colecovision emulator or a real console with a flash cartridge to play.

A DOS computer today?

HP computers offer three OS installed to choose from: - Windows - Linux - FreeDOS If most people choose Windows or Linux, I start questioning why FreeDOS is also offert. Tarzan is maybe not a beat'em up or a brawler game but it's very close. The goal of this game is to free monkeys from mad apes/hunters and yelling in the top of a temple. You can't kill anybody here, you can only knock down them unless they fall in the traps on in water. Like I said, you can knock down ennemies but they eventually stand up and attack you again. Subroutines in C

I learned something new in C recently: Theses codes are for Colecovision. This code is like if I type it in Basic, without numbers. This one uses a subroutine. Both codes give the same result except the last one use a subroutine. When I saw codes from source games for the first time, I was confusing and completely lost. Now, I'm fine with it and I can go further. My GOOMW (Get Out Of My Way) is a mess and need to clean up using subroutines instead.

Reached 50th sprite + split codes + limited library

I just reached 50th sprite for my brawler game. 14 more to go and I'll run out of sprites. OUCH! My brawler game ... again

Yesterday, I added "PRESS FIRE 1 TO PLAY" and changed 2018 for 2019.   I noted when I press fire 1 to start the game, in a fraction of a second, I noted something appeared on the screen.   I put delay when the second screen is about to appears.   Sprites from the intro somehow re-appear briefly before they disappear.   That's I'm working on it.   If this problem still occurs, I might ask for help.     Note: if the sprites look messing up, I use simple_sprites in title screen and do

ColecoVision sprite 16x16

I noted in the Colecovision guide it is possible to make 16x16 sprites.   So I tried it and I get with a funny result.   My brawler game is too advance to change sprites to 16x16.   Also 16x16 sprites might take more resources than 8x8 but it's just guessing.

Now I can play Stargate Network offline

I'm tired always being online when I play Stargate Network. Actually I'm an offline player unless I play multiplayer games. The problem with Stargate Network, the launcher always check update before playing the game. If the launcher fails, the game won't start. So I took a look at the game directory and I found an executable file. I tried it and now I can play Stargate Network offline. Problems with wifi band 5 GHZ I used

I noted few weeks ago, YouTube won't work anymore. At this time, I installed Stargate Network, a stargate simulator. I first thing it was the responsable of this problem until I noted I can't go the internet with my new 3ds. After few tries, I set my wifi to 2.4 ghz. Now I can go to the internet with my new 3ds and the problem with YouTube is fixed somehow.

I'd better play Tetris on Game Boy

I went to pharmacy today. The first thing I noted is a bin full of Game Pokes, a handheld game with 100 games and they are black and white systems. This handheld system uses a battery-watch to run. Based on screenshot, the graphic seems to be poorer compared to the Game Boy. These systems are sold for only $9.99. If Game Poke was released in 1990s, it could have a little success and take an alternative to the Gameboy, but today in 2019, it's just crazy. Kids today enjoy more playing o

Quick update of my colecovision game.

I managed to make a title screen without messing up with the rest of the game. Press Fire 1 to play. result.rom You'll need a Colecovision emulator or a real console to play this rom.

Say bye bye to BBC kids

This is the last day we can watch BBC kids (Canada). Tomorrow, it will be gone. The most shows I'm watching are Robin Hood: Mischief in Sherwood and Atomic Betty. And other british shows for curiosity. I hope BBC Canada and BBC World News won't be removed. A bad ending for this year.

Flickering sprites on ColecoVision

I never noted until now in Donkey Kong on Colecovision, Mario is flickering, best noted in level 2. Mario seems to be drawn with three sprites. When two mods come out, Mario started flickering. I'm not sure what Mario looks like if he was drawn with only two sprites instead. The game would improve a little, less flickering but Mario might not look good. I never saw Mario flickering in 1980s. Maybe old tvs make Mario less or no flickering at all.

My brawler ColecoVision game

I worked on my unname brawler game today. What's new: Press Button 1 to attack Press either 1 or 2 to select a weapon: fist, crowbar or whip. You can't defeat an enemy in this demo. The player just has attack animation, nothing else. I can't figure how to use FIRE3. Either the emulator doesn't support 4 buttons or I made mistake with the codes. Keypad seems to work btw.
