Game Room to Nursery Conversion - Pt. I: It Starts

[#007] so.. the moment i've been dreading for months, it officially started tonight. gone are the days of careless gaming in my man cave. gone are the endless nights drinking beer with my friends in Canada while i rip them a new one, online, in MarioKart Wii. gone are my RRN's (Retro Run Nights) where i pick a classic game (or two or three) and run through from start to finish.

what the future holds for me is bright colors, Disney princesses, imaginary tea parties, Dora, Hello Kitty, and whatever crap comes out between now and when my awesome/smart/beautiful future daughter is able to tell me what she wants to watch/play/do. and daddy will make that shit happen. [and for my last magic trick, my wallet has disappeared into thin air]

let's get back on track with the purpose of this blog; to procrastinate.

as of this writing, i've barely made a dent, but i was able to box up all my non-video-game related items of the TMNT franchise (playing cards, "classic" figurines, "current" figurines, "current" lego sets). i'm a sucker for anything TMNT. i'm desparate to get my soon-to-be 3-year-old nephew into TMNT, so every chance i get i buy him some TMNT crap. i just bought him a little TMNT-branded pinball machine from Toys R Us, and just HAD to get one for myself. damn me.

anyway, the TMNT stuff is non-electronic so i have no problem with putting the boxes in the attic (and forgetting about them, for now). next i'm looking at this insane Skylanders collection i own. not only is it massive, but it is actually insane for any normal 32-year-old man to own. my thing is, i have a problem with putting these guys in my attic. i'm in New Orleans. it's summer. it's hot as balls. these things are electronic (they have RFID chips in them...just google Skylanders for info).

i will probably take the Skylanders collection over to my band's studio, which costs us $350 a month to rent. since my band is only a two-piece, that's still $175 a month. seeing as the studio room is basically the size of a hotel room (the building used to be a hotel), there isn't too much space in there after factoring in a drum kit, computer/studio setup, guitars, amps, and a freaken Double Dragon arcade cabinet.

but... i figure if i can set up one to three shelving racks up against one wall, that will leave me with plenty of space for anything that can't withstand heat.

below is a list of crap that needs to be moved. help me decide whether they should go into the attic or the studio:

* random TMNT merch: attic

* Skylanders: studio

* video game strategy guides: attic

* music CDs: ?

* DVDs: ?

* video game CARTS: ?

* video game DISCS: ?

* sealed games? do they get special treatment?

* electronic handheld LCD games: ?

* electronic tabletop VFD games: ?

* video game consoles: ?

* misc VG console accessories: ?

* plug & play systems: ?

any suggestions and help is much appreciated. do you have your own story? share it!

here are some shots of what the room looks like now. first pic has the attic ladder down and in the way.

second shot is some games that don't fit on the main shelf, and the strategy guides

third shot is the top of my console TV.

fourth shot is my boxed collections of electronic handheld games (Tiger,Konami,etc). i hoard these more than anything else i collect. i can't help it. i know they mostly suck but i LOVE THEM. oh and my Adventure Vision is in this picture too. and no you can't have it. this is definitely staying IN the house. the wife agrees (she bought it for me a few years ago).

quick minor update: after doing some research, i'm about to purchase some desiccant gel packs (those things you see in your shoeboxes). they help with moisture for long-term storage. a 50-pack (of 10 grams each) is currently $21.19 and should be more than enough. http://www.amazon.com/Silica-Gel-Desiccants-2-1-Inches/dp/B003DKQB02/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1372494762&sr=1-1&keywords=desiccant+pack
