I hate the CD-I and my TV.

You'd think that there would be no problem and I could get a simple CD-i working in color on my TV. My question is "How did they get it to display in color before all this newfangled HDTV crap?" The thing was made in 1991. And yet, I guess I'll have to play it in black and white because I have the wrong TV or something. I have a newer TV I got a few years ago. It's a flat screen HDTV. It plays the damn thing in black and white. I tried putting every input everywhere and it still didn't change to color. Piece of garbage.

It's your TV. The CD-I is a high quality piece of electronics. They had to be for $700 at launch. The problem is with modern TVs. Almost nobody cares about composite or s-video anymore, so the quality controls on these ports is practically non-existant.

Do other things display OK in composite or s-video on your TV? If so, you might be able to get the CD-I to work if you route it through a VCR. Otherwise you should just get a CRT, which is something every retro-gamer should own anyway.

Is your CDI a Pal or NTSC, Who is the manufacturer? If its a 450/550 model and it says Phillips on the lid then its PAL only and its up to your tv to display it correctly. Most moden tvs will but not all. I have almost every CDI system in my collections so send me the Model number and I'll look it up for you
