Categorizing The 2600 Library

I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE first round of categorization a week or so ago but, well, I was kinda distracted by other things. :ponder:So here is an overview:Categorized 458 2600 games:341 Action games (74%)21 Adventure games (5%)13 Driving/Racing games (3%)9 Educational games (2%)1 RPG (0%)15 Simulation games (3%)35 Sports games (8%)3 Strategy games (1%)18 Tablegame games (4%)2 ?? games (0%)The ?? games are Basic Programming and Minesweeper. Actually, I'm assuming Minesweeper is a clone of the PC game that comes bundled with Windows, but I couldn't find a screenshot or a ROM to download - admittedly, I didn't look hard - so it should probably be a Strategy game, but I thought it best to wait and be sure.EDIT: Ok, I found the ROM for Minesweeper and it is just what I thought it would be...assuming that the ROM I found is the same one listed in the AA db. :ponder: So I guess add that to the Strategery games. Some of these are a little iffy, of course. I'll list some of the smaller categories so you all can disagree with me. :DSimulation:Air RaidersArtillery DuelBumper BashFinal ApproachMagicardMidnight MagicRadar LockSlot MachineSpace ShuttleSpitfire AttackTomcat: The F-14 Fighter SimulatorTrick ShotVideo LifeVideo PinballMogul ManiacStrategy:Brain GamesCodebreakerFlag CaptureDriving/Racing:Bump 'n' JumpDragsterEnduroGrand PrixIndy 500Motocross RacerMotorodeoNight DriverPole PositionSprintmasterSpy HunterStreet RacerUp n' DownLooking at this again brings up a question: Should games be allowed to fill multiple categories? I.e., is Spy Hunter a Racing/Driving game or an Action game? Or both? The real fun will be dividing up the Action games, but tackling something smaller...Any ideas on how to subcategorize the Driving/Racing games?

Hi there!

Any ideas on how to subcategorize the Driving/Racing games?

Well, pick your poison:

Cars / Other vehicles

Action / Simulation (or Fun / Serious)

Joystick / DC + Paddles

Atari / Other manufacturer

Arcade port / VCS Original

Score / Timer

2D / 3D

Circles / Straight

Background music / SFX

Full Speed / Braking required

A-M / L-Z

:)

Greetings,

Manuel

Driving/Racing is a subcategory of Action. So it's both in a way.

Any ideas on how to subcategorize the Driving/Racing games?

I don't think this is necessary. There are so few of them...

As far as subcategories go, I'm looking for something that can be applied across most of the primary categories.

And I think the Driving/Racing games could stand a little subcategorization; Enduro is different from Spy Hunter in meaningful ways.

How about adding a category for games that were arcade conversions? This would be a duplicate category, but I think it's useful. Or maybe add a note after entries that had arcade counterparts?

I posted this list in a thread a couple of years ago. I haven't updated it though.
