carlsson 24,904 Posted June 28, 2017 I know they use IoT on some of the latest refridgerators, so perhaps it is one huge Atari branded fridge to cool your beverage while playing the classic consoles? 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm not gonna lie Carlsson,...I like that idea!...Then again, most of us have AtariAge magnets on our fridge already Quote Link to comment
Nathan Strum 11,650 Posted July 7, 2017 Well, writing this episode really made me want to watch Colossus: The Forbin Project again. Not familiar with it? It's an early-70's sci-fi classic. A cold-war high-tech cautionary tale, somewhere between Fail-Safe and WarGames. I don't remember the last time I saw it - could've been 20 years ago or more. It doesn't show up on TV very often, and isn't available for streaming (that I can find). Unfortunately, the U.S. DVD release is a terrible pan and scan version, so I didn't want to waste my money on that. Instead, I found a nice, widescreen, Blu-ray import version. Unfortunately, I don't have a Region B Blu-ray player. Bother. But thanks to a blog post from Darrell, I used MakeMKV and Handbrake to make a version I could watch using my AppleTV. Problem solved! Still a great movie after all this time. You can tell WarGames (and Tron) were heavily influenced by it. Best creepy computer voice since HAL. Worth checking out if you can find it. Nathan Strum 11,650 Posted February 25, 2018 Colossus: The Forbin Project is finally coming to Blu-ray in the US! Of course, now I'll own two copies, but that wouldn't be the first time. I own at least three copies each of Tron and WarGames (among other films). 1 Quote Link to comment
SpiceWare 8,493 Posted March 29, 2018 Watched it last night, quite good! Wonder if they'd have also done the book sequels if those had been written sooner. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nathan Strum 11,650 Posted March 29, 2018 I've never read any of them - so I'd be curious where the story went. I thought for a film of its era, it managed to get quite a lot right about how technologies might develop. Story-wise, there are quite a few parallels with WarGames (one of my favorite films) - so I wonder how much that film borrowed from it. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it! Quote Link to comment
SpiceWare 8,493 Posted March 29, 2018 Haven't read any of them either, just went down the rabbit hole on wiki after watching the movie Based on the summaries the second went where I would have expected, though with unexpected help; though maybe not really unexpected due to the time period Quote Link to comment
