So this guy walks into a waffle...

Today I added the guy and power ups in the secret government waffle project. Along with a few other minor things. The Rom is now 10.5k. So I have lots of room to add stuff before it gets to 16k. The stuff to add are:
+ sfx or in-game music
+ death screen
Right now, He-Man is alive and well in my Intellivision. It's playing as background music for me typing this blog now. Have you ever done that? Put in a cartridge and let it play as ambiance? Or, even nerdier, to make it sound like you're in an arcade? I'm not that nerdy. In fact, I wouldn't call myself a nerd at all. I've never seen Star Wars nor Star Trek. I did watch Planet of the Apes once, that's as close as I got. I'm wondering why the number 3 is on the He-Man action demo screen in the left corner. I've never noticed that before. Perhaps it's a sign. For what, I don't know. I'm also wondering why nobody has given any feedback on the waffle project. I keep posting updates in the thread, and people keep downloading them, but they won't give me feedback on it. The power light on my INTV II is dim. I wonder if I could replace it if it went out. It's the only INTV I have, so I can't play the Coleco games.

I like chip-tunes a bit and have a few favorites that I have put on while I am not gaming. I am especially fond of Rob Hubbard and more specifically the Monty tunes - even though I never owned any of these games growing up and have never played them enough to consider myself a true fan. I also really enjoy a lot of NES music... especially Capcom's stuff. I love just about anything from Megaman, especially Megaman 2! I've also been known to dig out Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar to listen to the music.

I am a nerd through and through, but I am not a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, or Planet of the Apes. I do currently obsess over Guardians of the Galaxy though. Haha!

I had an INTV II and the expansion when I was a kid. I don't own either today, but I have the original Intellivision. My experience is that the controllers (while still wonky Intv controllers) are vastly supperior to the INTV II's controllers. Also, I like the way it looks better - even though my nostalgia should be for the INTV II.

I need to dig up your "waffle" thread. I don't know why I didn't think the ROM was available. icon_smile.gif

Anyway, none of the games I have made have had as big of a reception as I had hoped (Atari or otherwise). I think people are busy and sneak through in what little spare time they have... and run.

Kind of unrelated, but in reference to what you said about people not giving feedback about your game... Many years ago I started a blog here on Atariage that reviewed and gave my impressions of different games on classic arcade and console games. It rarely received any comments and I decided I was wasting time. Imagine my surprise and disappointment with myself when I deleted the blog and Cybergoth, as well as a couple of others, came out of the woodwork to say that they read the blog and asked what happened to it.

At any rate, you are not wasting your time... what you do helps make the hobby more interesting for me and others. Best of all, I think you're having fun doing it.

Cheers!

I just checked your game out. It is a port of Oranges, no? icon_smile.gif

If I was to suggest anything, and I'm sure you probably have these things in the works already, it would be for there to be some music and sound effects in the game. (Oops, you mentioned that in the blog entry) Also, I think it might be nice to have some speed options... as it would make the game more exciting, at least for myself, to really have to work at dodging the waffles. icon_smile.gif

Granted, I only glanced at the thread to download the latest binary... many of those things were already covered.

Another thing might be to have some waffles steer in and out of lanes... or bounce. Maybe a syrup gun power-up to douse and destroy the waffles? Maybe there could be a butter monster that creeps up from behind to destroy you (the player could move and dodge strategically so that it is hit by a waffle)? Perhaps there could be blueberry boulders that fall from above and must be dodged... or sticky puddles of whipped cream that should be avoided or the character slows down to a crawl until passed over.

Mmmkay, I'm probably going off the rails here, so I'll stop. icon_smile.gif
