Ten Pest

So I am still wondering how Tempest never got to the Game Boy despite the fact that it was even attempted on the Atari 2600. I had the name for the game in my head for a while now. So I decided to make the game a reality. The first idea I had for title screen music I had to scrap because I wasn't able to control the volume to turn on and off, yet somehow I'm still able to turn off the music once the game starts. Also, I had to scrap the image saying "2018 chris read" and replace it with text saying it.

So here's what it looks like now. The 0 on the ingame screen is going to be the score. I am also going to add a lives counter if I have room left at the end. You can move the rocket left and right. Pressing up or down turns its nose up or down to point the rocket at the intended target. I know that's not really how Tempest works, but I am going to try to add stuff to make it a new game.

The name is like it is because I'm going to (try to) add ten different alien UFOs. Even though they look different, I'm going to try to make at least a few of them have differences from each other. The line in the middle is the rocket path. The rocket is fixed at a y position and moves around its x position with the left and right buttons.

I learned from Oranges that there are only so many sprites you can have moving on the screen at once. Oranges has 8 (the man is actually 2 sprites I think). Also, I think 8 is the maximum. In Ten Pest, there will be a rocket, its bullet, and a few UFOs on screen at once, say two or three or so. Three should suffice because if all three of the UFO types can shoot, that would be 8 sprites on the screen at once.

I hope to have room for all these ideas I have for the game in 32k. Since I tried multiple times to bankswitch and all of them ended in utter failure.
