Weeks have "ends"?
Looks like I'm going to be keeping busy for awhile. In addition to working on the Solar Plexus artwork (which now has the shading done) and the accompanying tutorial (which is taking more time than the actual artwork), I've also got another couple of projects just handed to me:One is the manual for RPS. I haven't done a 2600 manual before, but my background was originally in graphic design, so I'm looking forward to it. I've got a couple of ideas for it I'd like to try, and it will be nice to have control over the look of the final product, rather than handing it off to someone else. Besides, I've always felt a little guilty about doing that. Like I'm slacking off or something. At this point, I'm just waiting for Billy to send me the text for it.The other project is a label for the 2600 multi-game cart. This will feature a bunch of homebrew mini-games: M-4, Hunchy, Zirconium, Rocket Command, Jet Man, Nightrider and Marble Jumper. The trick is going to be coming up with a design that doesn't just look like a mishmash. But Dave Dries gave me a really good suggestion, so I'll start with that and see where it goes. I frequently bounce ideas off of him, and he always gives me good feedback. Even if I ignore it, I usually end up filing away some useful little piece of info. That's an important point about creating artwork. Don't work in a vacuum. If you get stuck (or even if you don't) seek out opinions from other artists whose design sensibilities you respect. You don't have to use their advice, so don't feel obligated to. It's still your artwork. But it never hurts to have a fresh pair of eyes take an objective look at something. They may see something you missed.Which reminds me... I revised the RPS label again. The flesh tones were just too pale. I guess it won't actually be "done" until it has to go off for printing.Did I mention that RPS and the multi-game cart have to be finished for the Philly vgXpo on November 12th?Oh well... who needs weekends anyway? ![]()
