Why the original Odyssey is cool

I played "Super Mario 3D Land" for about half-an-hour, for what is probably the last time. For you see, I cannot beat 2-4. I tried and tried but I finally just gave up because it's too f***ing hard. Why do modern game developers feel the need to make games impossible? I can understand challenges, but downright impossible difficulty level? And only in level 2? Come on, idiots. That is why I love the Odyssey. No frustratingly hard levels you need to worry about if you can beat them or not. Sometimes, and right now is a time, I wish gaming had never went past the original Magnavox Odyssey. Imagine instead of buying a Playstation 3 game on a CD, buying an Odyssey game on a card and still having to put overlays on the screen. I wish I had an Odyssey. Magnavox didn't apparently do a very good job selling these things because they got greedy with it by saying that the Odyssey only works on Magnavox TVs, hoping that sales of their TVs would increase. Of course now we can look back and realize that's total BS, but back then, how was the average adult supposed to be aware that Magnavox lied? Well, anyway, this is the reason I am making games like Dodgeball and Captain Bruce. I yearn for the simpler video game days, even though I wasn't alive back then. My first game console was a Commodore 64, then when I got tired of Kindercomp, I graduated to an NES, and the next year, I got a SNES for my birthday in 1991, one of the early adopters. I can beat Super Mario World. They made that game beatable. Ever since Mario made the leap to 3D I can't beat them. I can't beat Super Mario 64. I had a friend who did it for me back in '96-'97. Now I have no friends. Maybe someday I can pay my niece to beat Super Mario 3D Land for me when she gets a 3DS. But that's the thing: I shouldn't have to do that. I should be able to beat these stupid games by myself. But no, they made them too f***ing hard. With all this increase of difficulty in gaming nowadays, I'm amazed I unlocked the 50cc Special Cup in Mario Kart 7. This is why I love classic gaming. It's something I can actually get past the second level of. If only more people agreed with me...

Every system and game became head-over-heels for 3D - which is really only a genre. 3D forces you to be challenged not only by gameplay, but also camera angles and control issues.

I love the fact that you are making Odyssey games, We know how obsessed I am with it. I just want to point out something. Magnavox never said that the Odyssey only works on Magnavox TVs. This thought came about because they were always played on magnavox tvs in commercials and only sold in the Magnavox Store. Even today gaming companies would only show the system on their brand of tv if they have one (sony for instance.) Why not advertise your own stuff. Consumers back then had never seen a videogame and they simply didnt know any better.

Just trying to be informative :)

@njb12287 - Thanks for the comment. It was informative. I read that part about Magnavox in an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader I think. For those who don't know, Uncle John (whoever that is, I just think he's a fictional character) has been releasing books intended to be read while going to the bathroom. They're very interesting and contain lots of articles about various topics (i.e. video games. There's one article that discusses Atari and how Pong came to be.) and each page has a footer which contains a little factoid.
