Somebody at Disney likes video games...

First Tron: Legacy, now Wreck-It Ralph:

I'd first heard of this years ago (it's been in development for ages under different titles) and was skeptical of it, but it looks pretty good. I've heard some good reports coming out of the studio about it as well (in fact - they have a number of arcade classics set up there for "research").

(Edit: replaced trailer with higher-quality version, without annoying introduction)

Disney has added more stuff to the Wreck-it Ralph site. There are some new "Get in the game" commercials (which have been airing during the Olympics), and a new game of sorts, where you can control Ralph and "wreck the (movie) trailer". Just watch any of the videos through to the end, and wait for the pop-up menu.

Wow, Sugar Rush is older than I thought, and the polygon count is remarkable for 1997. (Either that or all the footage shown is pre-rendered video.)

Other than that, Disney did a great job of making both this and the 1982 commercial fit the styles of the times.

ps. If you've watched the trailers at all, it's easy to predict that there will be a third commercial, and it's easy to guess what game that will be for.

The commercials are fun, although not terribly well researched. From a video production standpoint, both are entirely too polished for a local arcade.

More goodness on the Wreck-It Ralph website. In addition to the playable Fix-It Felix, Jr. game, they now have Sugar Rush and Hero's Duty.

Sugar Rush is a cart racer with a dessert theme, and more cuteness than should be legal. It runs pretty well, and is an impressive amount of work for a web game (you have to download a plug-in to play it).

Hero's Duty is an on-rails first-person shooter. While the on-rails aspect kind of dumbs-down the gameplay, it is in keeping with a lot of arcade shoot-'em-ups that were on rails, where all you did was point and shoot a light gun at the screen. So maybe that's what they were going for.
