    • The problem with Pitfall II being finicky on most consoles is the contacts on teh board aren't wide enough. This was a 1984 release, when Activision tried to go cheap on the manufacturing process on the lead up to the crash.
    • 1200XL sockets have been known to go bad. with U1M and sophia removed and the machine using original GTIA you reported the same issue still exist. That would indicate the issue is not related to the OS being rev 10, that being said the OS chips could be flakey. U1M replaces OS if selected. Did you update the 1200XL to use newer ROMs/Eproms with a new OS etc?
    • I was debating with myself about saying anything more, but sometimes I can't sit on my hands because I really feel the need to respond. So here goes...   This is my take on it.   Just like you, @Dropcheck has certainly put in lots of hours and $$$ into her 1400XL (and beyond) project. She has already stated that when the project is completed, she will release the gerbers to enable 'anyone' to be able to have one of these manufactured. And I would presume that she will likely release a BOM showing all the components required to assemble one into a complete machine. And we have already seen others piece together and upload the jed files for the required GALs (PLDs) that this board will certainly require in order to come to life (the community gives back).   No where do I see her or anyone else saying  "Hey I have a 1450XL - tough luck on you". In fact this project is the total opposite of that. Now to be fair I did use the analogy of a Classic car owner probably being one that should accept that they may have to wrench on it themselves, not always expecting someone else to do things for them. But at the same time I do realize that not everyone has the necessary skills and talent required to do so. But we also don't want to stare a gift horse in the mouth either, that being the gift that @Dropcheck is about to release into the world of Atari retro enthusiasts.   So in my opinion she has already fully embraced the idea of "It's about the community and giving back to those who have been so kind.". And she's done that in spades.   Primarily what I was trying to convey in my previous post, is that soon it will be time for even more people to do their part. With this being a good example of that...   I and probably many others thank you for making that offer   And thank you @Dropcheck for what you have already done, and will likely continue to do as we move into the future 🥰
    • Sorry to rebump the thread, is there any new emulator update? (Mine is VectrexEmulator_0_2_6_2_Alpha)
    • Another thought comes to mind, might be be related to issues with stock OS 10?
    • I've removed the U1MB and this happens without it. Also, my GTIA is socketed, so I just plugged Sophia2 into the existing socket. I did not get a supplied socket...   The issue happens also with the stock GTIA NTSC as I replicated. It takes longer to replicate with the stock GTIA, but it does happen. This test was conducted with GTIA back in its original socket.   This Sophia2 was extracted from my 800XL and I've never encountered this behavior.   Replicated also with SIO cable disconnected.
    • I think for the price the Jag was "best in class" in its time, although for a very short period (late 1993 - mid 1994)    But I think it won't change the hardened opinion bias anyway.   BTW it won "best new hardware" and "best game" at the Summer CES 1994, so it was not all doom and gloom from the start.
    • did you replace the socket with the supplied socket? Did the supplied socket stick into the Atari socket and the GTIA is in that stack. many times and upgrade will be tight in the original socket and once removed the socket is loose or other wise distorted. If you are still having issues after that, it's time to double check the installation of the u1m and make sure no errant connections etc are present.   Do you have more than one Atari?
    • Nope. This is an unfinished program from Paul Lay / Playsoft.   When we called for support for the Abbuc magazine with new software or un-released software, Paul did send us several of his un-released and unfinished programs. We liked them so much, that we did release them in Abbuc magazines 140 and 141 with a small note. One of these programs back then was a great Galaga demo (which has recently been finished by another AA user here).   And one of the prototype programs was Geddout, a cool raycasting demo (for two players) by Paul. Think there was another, simply named Raycaster demo or something like that (for one player). All you had to do there, was to find the way out -a yellow door- as fast as possible. But Paul wouldn't be Paul, if he did not also send us a full version of one of his programs - one such full version was Runner Bear, the other was Biscuits in Hell. As said before, all these programs were available with Abbuc Magazine 140 and 141...   Find attached the Playsoft protos, as well as Biscuits in Hell and Runner Bear.   Playsoft_Protos.zip BISCUITS_in_Hell.zip RUNRBEAR.zip
    • If we're going to play the specs game, I may as well join in (with one caveat). My suggestion - which again, like all the other ones wouldn't work because it was a company resource issue first and foremost, but is at least a technical opinion - is I would have kept the Jaguar exactly the same (since it was never going to be a 3D powerhouse at that time anyway), save for increased working memory (RAM; and obviously any bottlenecks related to its usage), and (here's the caveat) release one year earlier.   I was always disappointed that even with all of its issues, the Jaguar was not at least the, or an, ultimate 2D machine. The 16-bit era really set a high water mark for 2D gaming, and certainly a system like the Neo Geo both arcade and home (despite the unreachable price point), really drove that point as well. The Jaguar needed to do something demonstrably best-in-class (or near best-in-class for an affordable price), and it was never going to be, or could ever be, something 3D-related.    Otherwise, if you kept everything else as-is, released 1 year earlier, and somehow got some best-in-class devs/publishers with actual resources to complete quality titles, perhaps first impressions would have been much, much better than what they were. But of course, we may as well wish for PS1-level 3D in 1991 at that point as that would have been just as likely.   (oh, and I guess it goes without saying, make it a six button controller, regardless of including the keypad or not)
