    The Basement BBS first goes online

    The Basement BBS first goes online in November, 1986. The first version of the BBS ran MPP A.M.I.S. BBS Software on an Atari 800XL, 1 Dual Density 1050 disk drive, and a Supra 300AT modem (which was a rebranded MPP 1000E modem). The modem/dial-up version of the Basement BBS was online until September, 1998. It then returned as an Internet telnet only BBS on July 4, 2017. Its telnet address is base

    Nite Lite BBS Software unveiled

    On this day, in 1983, the Nite Lite BBS Software, by Paul S. Swanson goes online for the first time. The first version of the BBS is run entirely in RAM. Beginning with the secind version of the BBS, more of the BBS' functionality, such as message bases and menus, are run from a disk drive. The third version of the BBS included a text adventure game.     835 & 1030 BBS Program Released

    In December 1984, Gardner Computing Company released the 835 & 1030 BBS Program. The BBS software retailed at $74.95 + $2.50 shipping. An auto-answer/ring-detector module was included with the BBS since the supported modems did not provide auto-answer functionality (source: ROM Magazine v1i9 page 37). The software was later sold by a company called Duplicating Technologies, Inc. (DT). See
