    • I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the next DLC with the videos and included titles.  Also, yes, the first console war was between the VCS / 2600 and the Intellivision as Mattel took Atari directly on.  Anyone that thinks otherwise is entitled to their opinion, but they would be, at the end of the day, incorrect.
    • The concept of generations came from the fact that manufacturers release new hardware that isn't compatible with the older hardware. There new hardware only completes with their older hardware for a limited time, until enough early adopters switch consoles. In the past, the number of years between new hardware releases was 5+ years, so the difference in capability was significant. These days, there isn't much difference between a PS4 / PS5 so separating them into different generations makes less sense    The concept of console generations is useful when describing the video game market during a time period. It's a way of comparing what hardware (and the software on that hardware) each company was offering customers during that time period. Even though it isn't perfect, video game generations aren't going away any more than human generations (which also aren't perfect, but can be used to make predict ions about a person born during a generation). Language changes over time, but as long as the words have use, they won't go away    Sony / Nintendo / Microsoft don't control the narrative, as two of the three didn't even exist before 1996. Retro consoles that have their own generations (famiclone NoaC, Android set-top boxes. FPGA era, handheld clones era, etc ). PC gaming handhelds and personal computers have their own generations, and unlike consoles were mostly designed to be upgraded.
    • Most youtubers simply regurgitate the revisionist history from Wikipedia.    Every other gaming generation is based on a leap in technology and a period of 5-7 years.    The true second generation, which released around 1976/1977, featured extremely primitive, blocky graphics.  The systems that came out in 1982 boasted arcade-like graphics that had never been seen in home consoles before,  if that isn't a technology leap, I don't know what is.   The 5200 and NES were both based on a 6502 CPU running at 1.79mhz,   the third-generation Sega SG-1000 was based on the same hardware as Colecovision!   No matter how you slice it, the 5200/Colecovision, are third gen,  they are using some other criteria to throw them in with the 2nd generation.
    • Awesome news!   Address is sent!   And like others have said, ready for the next contest!
    • For those that want to continue the "debate" about gaming generations, please comment in the following thread:      Now back on topic, this article expands a little on the next installment of the Atari DLC: https://gamerant.com/atari-50-wider-world-dlc-19-more-games/   Some sources say there will be 19 games added and the one I just posted says 20. The theme is centered around the Atari 2600 and Intellivision rivalry. So I'm wondering if the games included in this batch will be mostly M-Network? That would account for 13 games:   AD&D: Tower of Mystery M Network     AD&D: Treasure of Tarmin M Network                         Air Raiders M Network Black                     Armor Ambush M Network Black Astroblast M Network Black                     Dark Cavern M Network Black Frogs and Flies M Network Black In Search of the Golden Skull M Network     International Soccer M Network Black                     Space Attack M Network Black Star Strike M Network Black Super Challenge Baseball M Network Black Super Challenge Football M Network Black
    • I had one of these on my wall when I was a kid, no idea where it came from.  Been wanting to buy one ever since I saw this post years back, and now I have my own computer room (currently in middle of decorating it) I'm gonna get one   Thanks  Farago for preserving it and Mr Robot for the excellent vector reproduction.
    • I also agree about Mutation Nation.  It is a good beat 'em up as the Neo Geo has others that are good too, such as Robo Army.
    • What I would think is how exactly you plan on using all the elements of your game? Instead of the ball, since you are using the multi-sprite kernel, is it possible to create a sprite that has just a couple pixels used, and randomize its height and how many copies and have it spawn dependent on the vertical placement of other sprites so as not to flicker. You could also change the color of the sprite to maybe have a twinkle effect or vary the star appearance for variety.
