I've realized that I can't stand CRT purists. I'd rather have a clear picture for my Atari 2600 games than adjusting Stella to look like crap on purpose.

      3. bent_pin

So many people can't see the game through the pixels. I play on so many different types of TVs. I have a portable reflected CRT that I like, a black and white compressed LED that's pretty sweet, and a pile of different flatscreens with NTSC tuners. I love them all and I just use different ones as I feel.
      4. GoldLeader

I don't mind CRT purists,   Unless they're "Preachy"... Haha!   This one guy used to tell anyone who'd listen that CRTs were Better...Anyone who disagreed was just Wrong,  no room for any opinion but his own.  I don't remember his name,  but I don't miss that guy.   He also claimed boiling the cartridge slot would fix any NES...(Not necessarily)...

I'll fiddle with it for hours,...And then adjust my TV Hey-O!!  Ha!,  But yeah I think my Retro-Tink 5X Pro is pretty Amazing!  And works well with S-Video,  SCART, Component...

I saw REO Speaddealer (as I still call'em) a different time in Fort Collins once with a band called The Bar Feeders,  who were this awesome speed punk band and they had a song called Wyoming,  which we,  being from Wyoming,  instantly sang along with (somehow)...Talked to them afterwards and they'd never been to Wyoming haha...

Did you hate it in school when they told you to "put it in your own words"?  I didn't have my own words.  I had logic and memory, but almost no creativity.
      1. Show previous replies  1 more
      2. GoldLeader

Oh I think I have endless creativity!  We're just a receiver after all,  just open your brain and pull out what comes in!   No,  what gets me is after they tell you to put it in your own words,  how often they don't like what you've got to say.  If you're doing the assignment as told they should have no judgment.
      3. pacman000

It's test of understanding; if you can correctly reword a statement, you understand it. If you merely repeat what's said in a book, you may not understand it. And, if you reword something, but leave out an important part, you still don't understand it.

I suppose another test of understanding would be application, but that's probably hard to do for in a classroom setting.
      4. GoldLeader

It certainly depends on the assignment.  If there's a source,  and you are "putting it into your own words",  then yeah what @pacman000 said (Teacher's pet haha)...I once had an assignment that was simply,  "Write a creative story in your own words;  You have 5 minutes.  Go!"  Now that is a lot more challenging than you might think.  Imagine if you didn't have anything ready to go?...I liked it as a mental exercise,  but how would any teacher grade such thing?  I think if you try you should get credit.

    • When you convert them to .roms can Altirra still run them if you manually select the Wiliiams type? If so then it should run on the Hardware.   If not then it's possible the batch converter is not working.
    • We actually have used that on the BBS Community chat a few times to test some of the modems like the 830 and 835... but to be honest, if you REALLY take it seriously (and by that I mean you're going to have a room full of modems.........)   This is cheaper, but would require configuration (the Viking Line Simulator is brain dead simple... you pick up one line, the other line rings.. Perfect if you want to demo two 830's!)   https://www.amazon.com/Excelltel-SOHO-PBX-Telephone-Control-Exchange/dp/B015MIQ12A
    • This has been a long time in the making, I've ploughed 100's if not 1000's of hours in at this point. I'm still not 100% happy with it but the video shows a complete playthrough will all 32 treasures collected.   Playable version of the game here: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/950849 It's not fully tested but appears to be working (desktop computers only).   Full playthrough of the game here:
    • Well, some of us have been trying... we just haven't managed to figure it out.  BF2k+ already explored my idea of going back to the old firmware and configuring a C/H/S setup but... alas... no joy.  My next attempt will try to configure a known working drive as best as possible as an image and see if that works... but hearing that other devices work, there is hope... and for those who bought a BlueScsi, the ability to clone a drive through Initiator mode means I would never consider it a waste of money for my toolbox... but yeah, if we can figure out how to make it work, that'd be amazing).
    • Damn you, Tillek.  Damn you to hell. 😃
    • Funny you ask.  No, I haven't done that yet.  Based on the conversation we enjoyed in "that other" thread, I have high confidence.  Your current question is knocking that back a bit.  But since there might be some interest in the "how" of it all, I'll make sure to roughly document the process should I get it up and running.
    • To answer the question though, other than a 256k Rambo on an 800xl, yeah, I think you're nailing it... and I have that same disk notcher.   Well, except that you're failing on the Modem to call BBS's.  Normally I'd recommend the WiModem 232 Pro, but to keep it "looking" period specific, maybe the Tattler Solutions Wifi Modem (he's also coming up with a version for the USR Sportsters) https://tempestfpga.com/   Or, if you REALLY want to go old-school, use a REAL modem (in your case, an SX212 naturally) and a Viking Line Simulator https://www.amazon.com/Viking-DLE-200B-Two-Way-Line-Simulator/dp/B004PXK314  connected to a PC with a modem running SexPots.
    • The monitor only has one (1) composite video input.  I use the A/B switch as you untuited.
    • Point on the doll where BUBSY touched you..........
    • I'm not really capable of answering that, I think. The collection was meant as a possible supplement to those who may lack some of it, but anyway the programs included should either be run from the command line or a batch file (Geneve programs), or via the GPL interpreter and some kind of "run" function (like TI Basic, Editor/assembler) depending on which kind of program it is.  It's a bit tricky definining here, which are which, though. Oh, and.. most of it will need to be extracted by Archiver III or similar, unless the MAME emulator is capable of using them from an archive (I'm a MAME novice, though, so I can't tell for sure).   I do believe that www.9640News.com and ftp.whtech.com contains some documentation about the TI and Geneve computers. c",)
