    • This is a work in progress project in its alpha stage, but looks promising, cheap and very easy to implement with some soldering skills. I worked on it in the last 3 weekends.   The project is based on the amazing RP2040.PiZero board and uses the PicoDVI lib (https://github.com/Wren6991/PicoDVI) to output a DVI signal with VGA resolution, so the lynx can be connected to screen with an HDMI port with a standard HDMI cable.    My project started with the idea to output on the DVI line only the video and connect the audio jack of the lynx to the Audio IN of the TV, but last week I found that there is a similar project for the N64 (https://github.com/kbeckmann/PicoDVI-N64) that also drives the audio on the DVI line, so after tuning the video part I'll try to add the audio as well.   I have to thank the Retrosix site for the specs of the lynx video signal (https://www.retrosix.wiki/lcd-interface-atari-lynx-ii)       this is the connection layout so far:     At the moment it uses a Txs0108e level shifter to connect the 5V logic to the 3.3V pins of the RP2040, but this chip is very prone to get a lot of noise with 10 cm long wires, so I'm going to change it with another chip. And I'm going to use an OR Gate chip to merge the 3 video clock signals on a single line to simplify the program of the RP2040 and use the other two channels of the level shifter for the audio lines.    The total cost is about 15€, with other two 8 lines level shifter chips I'd like to add also an interface for a SNES controller and the possibility to load roms from the SD slot present on the RP board. The total cost for the full project will be about 20€.   The rp2040-PiZero board doesn't fit in the Lynx case, so this will probably be a good option to consolize the lynx, but maybe in the future someone could design a custom board with smaller size and a shape that fits the Lynx case.   Now the signal is very unstable (look at the last third of the screen, with moving images the screen is a mess, the cause is the level shifter), when I get the new one if everything works as expected I'll post on github the full project, the code for the RP board and a compiled file ready to be flashed.
    • Hi, I'm running into an issue with my 2600+. Specifically when I turn it on, it powers up, I get the Atari logo, and then I see a spinning circle, then I get the Atari logo again and it keeps looping. Any Suggestions?
    • Whilst digging around I've found a bit more circumstantial evidence that TV POWWW voice activation was used in TV broadcasts.  When you look at most games of Channel F Shooting Gallery the console sound is hooked up and you can hear bleeps and bloops when a shot is fired, a shot bounces off the screen border or leaves the screen, and when the target is destroyed.  For example:     However, the setup at WPTF-TV seems to have been a little different.  If you watch some of the games from 1979 you can't hear any sound when shots bounce, leave the screen or destroy a target.  Also, when shots are fired the sound is longer and has a rather different tone to a typical Channel F output:     We can also hear the same sound when the contestant speaks before and after the game.  I think what we're hearing isn't sound from the Shooting Gallery game, but instead is the TV POWWW voice circuit being triggered and signalling the console that a POWWW has been detected (it seems to be a little sensitive).   If we look at the TV POWWW patent, figure 10 shows the output circuit.  The input (502) from the detection circuit is used to turn on an oscillator (830) when a POWWW is triggered.  This goes through some impedance matching circuitry (850) and off to the console.  The patent explains all of this in excruciating detail, and at the top of column 23 states of the oscillator 830, that "In a preferred embodiment, the oscillation frequency is 500 hertz."  This means that when a POWWW is detected, it is signalled to the console as a tone of 500Hz that's about 80 milliseconds longer than the POWWW itself.  A bit weird, but OK.   If we analyse the tone in the WPTF-TV game we find it's just less than 500Hz, suggesting it is indeed the POWWW detector at work.  Unfortunately this isn't definitive proof because the Shooting Gallery tone for a shot is also 500Hz (grrrr), but it seems a reasonable explanation of why we hear beeps from shots, but none of the other Shooting Gallery sounds.
    • Here's an up to date image. Back with Sophia2 but can easily be replaced.
    • Okay, mystery solved.  I found an Adventure box with no cartridge and just the Pirate Adventure cassette.  It looks like the Adventure cartridge was swapped around, and the boxes were maintained while the software was in use.  Kudos to the original owner(s) as most people would have thrown out those boxes decades ago.
