My exploration of PC-MODE continues with Pac-Man World Re-Pac!  I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate Pac-Man's birthday.  Played on a stock 8 GB VCS using Steam via ChimeraOS.

You know it's been "a week" when the 10 line prototype tool you spent 5 minutes on gets "25X'd" by the time it handles errors, adds an additional file format, and implements a CLI useable by others ...

Warner owned Nickelodeon first! Then they sold it to Viacom. Makes Cartoon Network seem like irony, right?

    • Charlie Cat

Garfield made a decision one week that he wanted to improve his performances on the fence. So he hired Odie to participate in his act to entertain the audience with lively music from July 22-27 1985.
Odie's stage name was Mr.Skins and wearing shades to help add a sense of coolness for the duo. Did it help Garfield improve his nightly gigs? Well.. at least it was a good attempt.
      1. Atarian7

        "whore shades"?
      2. GoldLeader

I think Mr. Skins and Whore Shades  is one of those movies they keep in back,  behind the beaded curtain.
      3. frankodragon

They'd be like David Letterman and Paul Shaffer.  Odie already had the shades.  Garfield needed some tooth paint to make a gap on the front of his mouth.
      4. Charlie Cat

@Atarian7 Whoops! I thought I corrected that error when proofreading. Guess I didn't. Now i did.

The last Star Trek: TNG episode aired 30 years ago today.
Also realized my 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime on the shelf is 20 years old.
However feeling old is better than the alternative!
      1. Living Room Arcade

Shut up, it was not 30 years ago.  That would mean [does math] Holy crap, you're right!  Thanks for posting that!
      2. LS650

I mentioned this to a friend, whose only tolerance for Star Trek is TNG, and she replied, "Why are you trying to make me feel so OLD??"
      3. doctorclu

Time passes, but Star Trek: Next Gen is timeless.
It has that wonderful 80s optimism... or is that simply how we'll be in the future?
        Let's make it so.

    • Pitfall 2 does not work EVERY time for me also. I thought at first it might be the dumper...probably the cartridge slot thou. Inserting the cart at a lower angle seems to make it boot(for me)more often. Works every time on my original VCS.
    • Yes, I have all of those types of controls on the controller. You can adjust depth samples, depth increment, horizon, etc all from the number pad. I’ve implemented a non-linear z increment as well such that the sample distance increases each successive depth step to give a greater view distance at the expense of detail. It works quite well! I also have sample quantisation and skipping in the near samples such that multiple columns are generated in a single sample. That was a useful optimisation, too.
    • I like Atari Nexus (will you get false positive hits for AtariAge’s old name, but not as many) and Legends Nexus for the projects. The only thing that might be misnamed for the Atari Nexus, becauseI think it includes one-button games from other systems (like C64, NES, etc).   Since I own both the AFBX and the LFB, I like to keep the non-Atari products off the AFBX. I do understand some people wanting to play C64 games (and other one-button games) on their systems though. Are the emulator cores between the two projects (Atari/Legends) compatible anyway though? I guess the advantage is that the AllGames.ini has already been filtered for one-button games. That alone makes it useful to include, since even the small percentage of people that will hack their system with custom firmware, even fewer will alter the default setup.   As for what is missing, I cannot think of much. There used to be a post showing which emulators were included, but I think it got deleted. If it could support anything that the libretro core supports, then if Atari ST (Falcon) hasn’t been attempted yet that would be an interesting addition. I remember playing Captain Blood and Carrier Commander bitd. Not sure if the ARM would be fast enough, but the core is Motorola 68k, so I don’t see why it couldn’t.   I have been messing around with the Famicom Disk System, and will probably be doing some testing with the LFB system again. I don’t remember why they were removed, Ie was it because the FDS bios was missing disksys.rom, or unsupported emulator (not FCEUmm or Nestopia), not sure if just button-mapping for eject/flip disk were missing. Take your time. Updates once a year are more than enough.
    • At some point in time, there was a mac that I saw on YouTube that had a rather strange monitor aspect ratio where you could fit a full 11"x8.5" paper on the screen.  Would have been so very awesome for DTP!  Or even writing... I wonder if anyone makes an e-ink screen that could replicate that awesomeness...
    • Star Voyager is a great game. Visually similar to Star Raiders, thou you don't need the touch pad. More arcade style gameplay...
    • Emphasis mine.  Good point.  It has become more of an X/Facebook timeline than its genesis, which also included random comments of personal interest by our community members.  Some of the stuff we post in here could be blog posts or status updates, as AA supports both with followings.
    • I think it's clear there are, let's say, special circumstances at play and the amount of effort or the passage of time would not make a difference in this category. So better to just concentrate on the substance rather than the presentation.
