    • Does anyone have / have written a compact, no menu / no nonsense one exe file loader for Atarimax carts? Or any existing open-source development that has one? I mean something minimal I could attach my exe file to and have it loadable from the cart.(Actual reason - my game is on the border of using up the whole 1Mbit cart and I cannot afford to have a full 8K block for the Atarimax original "firmware", which otherwise worked for me as it should, essentially I need to have full control over it to squeeze everything). Thought I'd ask before diving into writing one myself.    (A flashing / writing procedure for a single sector of the 1Mbit cart would be also very useful, so far I have found one for the 8Mbit cart, otherwise I know the Arcade Pacman has one, just a bit lazy to dig it out from there ;)).   Finally, is it my correct understanding that the flash sector size on the 1Mbit cart is 16kbits, so 2KB, in size? That's about the largest that would work for me, if it is 64kbit that I understand the 8Mbit one has, then the whole topic can be essentially slashed, because I'd need to go the 8Mbit route anyhow...
    • One little problem if using NTSC, the timer gives you about 31 seconds, in PAL it's about 37 seconds, wondered why level 2 was a bit hard to get to the timer
    • Frank Zappa had it all worked out:   Spider: I think I can explain about about how the pigs' music works Monica: Well, this should be interesting Spider: Remember that they make music with a very dense light John: Yeah Monica: O.K Spider: And remember about the smoke standing still and how they they really get uptight when you try to move the smoke, right? Monica: Right John: Yeah? Spider: I think the music in that dense light is probably what makes the smoke stand still. As soon as the pony's mane starts to get good in the back any sort of motion, especially of smoke or gas, begins to make the ends split Monica: Well don't the splitting ends change the density of the ponies' music so it affects the density of the pigs' music, which makes the smoke move which upsets the pigs? Spider: No, it isn't like that John: Well, how does it work? Spider: Well, what it does is when it strikes any sort of energy field or solid object or even something as ephemeral as smoke, the first thing it does is begins to inactivate the molecular motion so that it slows down and finally stops. That's why the smoke stops. And also have you ever noticed how the the smoke clouds shrink up? That's because the molecules come closer together. The cold light makes it get so small, this is really brittle smoke John: And that's why the pigs don't want you to touch it Spider: See, when the smoke gets that brittle what happens when you try to move it is it disintegrates John: And the pigs get uptight 'cause you know they, they worship that smoke. They salute it every day Monica: You know we've got something here John: And, and, and, and that's the basis of all their nationalism. Like if they can't salute the smoke every morning when they get up . .  Spider: Yeah, it's a vicious circle. You got it   - Civilization Phaze III

    • I think its that including cartridge ports (‘dumpers’ when used on emulation-consoles), would cost more. Since the 400Mini emulates all of the Atari 8-bit family computers, including the combo computer/console-units and also the 5200, it would end having like 3-5 different cartridge ports (dumpers), and even then, what about all the games released on cassette or disk?   Witt the 2600+, the one thing that could make it seem reasonable (for a low-priced system vs a high-quality fpga-retro feinschmecker-thing), was that the cartridge slot for the 2600 (being the most fameous system) and the 7800 had the same shape, so with one cartridge dumper, you could get quite a lot done.   Guess a 400Mini with 4 cartridge dumpers would easily cost $200 or more, look akward, and probably need a long time of developement and tweeking of the emulation-softwares both for the line-up of dumpers and the console running the emulators.   So, it wouid be possible, but would cost alot more money and time, and the number of things that could go wrong, to later have to be mended, would be much higher.   They could perhaps have included 2 cartridge slots there, one for the 5200, and one for the most-used 8-bit system cart-slot type (shape). It wouid then probably cost $150-170, and be released Q3 or Q4 this year.   Just my own guesstimate.
