    • @Albert   Congratulations!   (Sincerely!)   You've been the show runner and owner of my Favorite website on the entire internet and that's saying something.  I'm happy if you're happy.  And I plan on sticking around.     That said,  and subtleties missed,  a lot of people are handwaving concerns (about Atari's ownership) because they don't know the whole (previous) story (well stories is more the word)...Lawyer's actions and scammy Ex-CEOs (allegedly)...I don't know enough nor would it be my place to explain.  Let me just say there are stories buried within threads that almost everyone has forgotten about,  it appears.   To be clear,  Personally,  I'd love to support a new version of Atari.  And I don't mean new products...People seem to think that's what the cynicism and distrust is about.  (IMHO) It's Not.  Atari is a company and a company is going to release products.  People will buy them or not.   I'd be curious to know the answer to one question.  To Atari employees who might be reading this,  If you'd like to answer...And this is likely not a black and white answer.  Would you say this is a new company that bought the name Atari from Infogrames?  Or is this Infogrames' Atari with a few new employees?  Or perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between...
    • An urban legend, a villain that never made it onto game screens in Atari's golden age, comes to life in this hack based on Keystone Kapers. Yukon Yohan, the villain, the nemesis, the opposite of Bounty Bob. This game is a tribute to the wonderful world of Miner 2049er and its characters. The story of this hack is very simple, not very different from the Keystone Kapers plot. Bounty Bob goes on a quest to capture and bring to justice Yukon Yohan, who is up to no good in Bounty Bob's town. Yukon aims to make the mutants from the mines invade the city and dominate it, the mutants destroy everything they see in front of them, the population is afraid of these creatures and is confined in their homes. Bounty Bob, with his vast experience as a miner, knows exactly how to deal with these creatures and send them back to their original habitat, the mines. Shall we go on another Bounty Bob adventure? Now with the participation of your unprecedented villain in the games that gives the title its name? Good fun.   Special thanks doctorclu and  Bomberman94  for having the patience to test the beta versions and giving me incredible tips on how I could improve the game's appearance. Without these vital observations the hack would hardly reach this quality, which I consider to have been as faithful as possible to the world of Miner 2049er. I hope everyone enjoys it. • I'm really enjoying the game (except for storage management). Not sure my PC is though 🤣
    • I have some screenshots and a latest update of what I have written into Forem XEP, thanks to AMIS for getting this software working in the first place, I was able to understand fully what the program is actually doing. Here are about 12 different screenshots from the logon and logoff screens from SpyNet BBS Atari. I also updated the FNET programs removed all of the analogue modem stuff and added telnet to the FNET series of programs. For now still only 20 nodes, but that may increase IF memory use allows it.    I have included  the master disk and 7 data disks all 16 meg in size, which I will upload once I remove all of my passwords from the password files.   Anyway here is the update file with all of the changes, and the 12 or 14 screenshots.     Update_7_September_9_2023.atr
    • I would recommend buying one, bought mine during the 50 percent off sale, got the speakerhat special for $189, for me that is a steal. I also have windows 10 on a usb stick that I can use when I want so that's nice, but mostly I just use it to play the games from the Atari store. I was lucky and didn't have any setup issues during my initial bootup. The only advice I would give is to be patient with all the updates, Linux doesn't always update smoothly and can take quite a while. Anyway I love the games, most of the good ones are reasonably priced and the controllers are good too.
    • Here's my bit.  I don't care.  Hopefully, Albert has the terms of what's he's been offered actually under contract.  Of course, who knows what will occur when Atari changes hands or it, itself gets parted out.    I enjoy the forum.  I enjoy our community.  We're small enough and any relocation will fragment us.  I'm not interested.  My contributions are here.   Now, for folks paying membership fees - that's on you.  I am not a paying member now.  I definitely wouldn't pay a corporate ownership that is inevitably going to exploit our participation for profit.  I don't see a problem with that, but I wouldn't pay more.  They'll get their money, or fail.   Anyhow, congratulations are due for Albert.  His hard work has paid off for him and allows him to continue his passion.  As long as he is content, since it seems his motivations were pretty golden here, I think we'll be fine.  When he departs, you'll know the ruse is up.
    • Good afternoon from the US. How are your projects coming along? Including this one? Also, what are your thoughts on Atari buying out AtariAge. I'm cautiously optimistic myself tbh.
    • Hardware sprites cost quite a bit of space on the video chip (*). The Atari 8-bit only has 3 if I understand correctly. The C64 and Intellivision have 8, though the C64 can multiplex those while the raster is drawing so you can get the effect of many more sprites. Systems like TI-99/4A, Colecovision, MSX etc share the same chip which has support for 32 sprites, but only 5 on a single line (or maybe that is 4 before it starts to flicker). As technology advanced, more sprites and different methods to use them appeared.   (*) Looking at the VIC-II die, it seems between 50-70% of it is assigned for those 8 hardware sprites.
