Albert
We're pleased to announce that the Atari 2600 Hacks section has received a huge update in terms of both functionality as well as the addition of roughly 70 new hacks to the pages. Hacks are now categorized according to type (Graphic, Audio, and/or Functional), you can now search the hacks section, the hacks are now paginated (there are over 150 of them, with more on the way), and more. When viewing an individual hack you can also see what other hacks were created by the same person, as well as a list of other hacks of the same game. Thanks to StanJr for compiling information on the many new hacks added since these pages last received an update. Because of the large number of additions and other changes, if anyone spots any problems, please let me know and I'll fix them immediately. Also, I'm looking for any external links that might be related to individual hacks, such as pages that people maintain of their hacks. I went through and had to remove many stale links that were in the old hacks pages (about half of the links were bad!) Also, I have removed Berzerk Voice Enhanced and Venture II from the main game database and moved them into the Hacks section. I also added Combat Redux to the new Hacks section. And finally, Stan has been working on a new batch of hacks, those will probably go online in a week or so (I believe it's another 40 hacks or so). Enjoy! ..Al
Out_of_Gas
Question.(a dumb one for sure LOL) Do we still post the hacks here? Or do we just send em to Stan?
Dan Iacovelli
looks good AL, I also like the description you gave my hack. I did notice that on the second screen shot of laserman that you didn't get far based on the pic of keystone kappers (I'm considering making another hack based on my laserman theme(as well as orignal game))

+Atarius Maximus
Looks great! Thanks Al and Stan for all your hard work, it's going to be fun spending some time looking through the new list. I saw one initial problem, you gave me credit for the Air Raiders Unlimited Ammo hack, that wasn't me. I think it was Cybergoth or Thomas, if I can find the original thread I'll let you know. +Atarius Maximus
Yep, Cybergoth did the Air Raiders hack: http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...ir+raiders+ammo
+Atarius Maximus
Sorry for the three posts in a row, it's quicker than editing. One more problem, Dennis Debro did the Spitfire Attack hack with the reversed controls, not me. I requested it, he did it.
Albert
Okay, I've fixed both the Air Raiders Unlimited Ammo and Spitfire hacks, thanks for pointing out the problems. I credited both Manuel and Thomas for the Air Raiders hack, after looking through the thread. ..Al

Gregory DG
Sounds like a dumb question, but what does the (Fun)ctional field actually mean? If the game works or not? In an emulator? On a Supercharger?
Out_of_Gas
I believe that means, it has changed the way the game works. Be it, different controls, game play, something like that.
raindog
Well, a "G" means the graphics changed, an "A" means the audio changed, so doesn't it figure that "F" means the functionality of the game has changed? Of course that would be sort of subjective, so I imagine it means that code (as opposed to graphics or audio data) has been changed. My SI hack is a GA and Pac26 is a GAF, so that would make sense to me.
Albert
Sounds like a dumb question' date=' but what does the (Fun)ctional field actually mean? If the game works or not? In an emulator? On a Supercharger?[/quote'] It means that the game has somehow been altered in terms of gameplay from the original. This generally requires code changes, and is why only a small subset of the hacks have that designation. ..Al

StanJr
Thanks, people. I know from my end many many man hours went into getting this update in, and I know Al spent a lot of time on it as well. I think there are a lot of really great hacks out there and AA has the largest and deepest hack database for VCS hacks you are going to find. I am dedicated to keeping that database as current as possible, therefore I am hoping Al and I can make quarterly updates to stock the database with the freshest hacks around. Please keep posting your hacks here, but if you make a LOT of revisions or changes and post a LOT of updates to your BIN, I would GREATLY appreciate a PM containing the FINAL bin of the hack, just to make sure the correct one gets in the database. Enjoy the hacks!
Thomas Jentzsch
Nice! How long will the hacks be called "New". How about using a date (year, month) instead? I noticed a bug when reversing the sort order. E.g. reverse sorting by the New column. 1st page: all games new (when you call the 1st page for the second time the bug disappears, no games are listed as new) 2nd page: only the last game is new 3rd page: all games new 4th page: all games new So there are 50+1+50+19 = 120 games listed as new and some games are listed twice (Water War) or are missing (Asteroids DC+). If I reverse the sort order, only 70 games are listed as new which is correct. And you spelled Rotschkar wrong at Air Raiders and A-Team. jetset
Ok, so who is going to put some of these hacks on carts? I want some made.
sku_u
This is awesome! I love some of the graphic hacks. There are two I don't see there, both by ATARI TROLL: Backwards Cannonball. IIRC he reversed the playfield and changed what is said when wiping out. ' Custer's Viagra. Pretty self-explanatory. I'd love to see a multicart release of a group of hacks together at some point.
