alucardX, thanks for your and admins support, looks like I finally have access to AtariAge forums ) I'll try to make a first iteration of OpenLara Jag port using the RetroArch core (Virtual Jaguar) and cubanismo's jaguar-sdk. Would be great if you guys have some recommendations or "getting started" guide for homebrew devs. I don't expect performance over 5 seconds per frame when running on Motorola, but I will learn how to tame other animals in the zoo.6 points

His "list.ru" email indicates he's in Russia. I'm pretty sure Al banned all Russian IPs a long time ago due to the amount of spam and attacks that originate from that corner of the world. I'd imagine the developer could register here with a Gmail email address and by using a VPN.6 points

Thank you so much for the nomination! I honestly figured that with all of the excellent games coming out on the 7800 this year, these would be forgotten about! Look for Galaxian to be in the AtariAge store soon, along with UniWarS and Pac-Man Collection 40th Anniversary! The very Talented @Nathan Strum has done the artwork for all three, and they look amazing! Really, I'm happy just to have been nominated. My 7800 'glory days' are behind me, and the 7800 scene is exploding with so many top-notch coders that there is no starving for good games out there.5 points

Perhaps they could work out a deal with Bob Decrescenzo to bring over his stellar Atari 7800 homebrew Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest, which was inspired by Crystal Castles. It's a really great game!5 points

Handily, these are 768 byte files with no header, starting with the definition for ' ' space containing 96 pattern definitions. They can be used with DSR op LOAD, straight into the pattern definition table in a well behaved way, with a 32*8 address offset. I've written an executable that will be bundled in next drop of FC, that can load offset 0 files (fbForth style) as the default, or these as /w (for Wilhelm) format. They have to be 40 column 6x8 friendly to be usable.5 points

At some point, I'll pick this up again. Currently, the project is in a broken state and the latest source code won't build/assemble anymore. The source code has a ton of macros, so that's making it hard to track down where the issue is. Ultimately, it could do with a good revamp. I've been debating whether I want to try and fix that issue or restart the project in my new programming language I'm developing. --- Anyways, this ended up happening: I must be doing something right Lots of great entries. Go check them out and Vote! https://atariage.com/forums/forum/203-atari-homebrew-awards/5 points

OK, OK, since nobody else is available, I will do it. ? Two quick questions first, though: What is this 'Jaguar' everybody's talking about? Is this related to the car or something? How does creating video games work basically? I assume you create graphics first in a software like Paint, but how does the machine figure out what to do with them?5 points

Autistic should not be a synonym for asshole, but I see that quite a bit on this forum actually. Makes it bad for the few that may actually have this symptom, and not just try to cover up the fact that yeah, they are really just an asshole. I personally cop to being a grade A asshole. I don't try to blame it on anything else.5 points

Sound!! The parts for the sound came in yesterday and were soldered in place. I discovered I forgot a resistor and soldered it in place. The 600XLM now has sound! The board schematics are being updated so as to ensure the next board has all the fixes. Still on the agenda: 1. Connect and test the keyboard. 2. Install the Teensy and program it to function as an internal SD drive. 3. Program the Teensy as a real-time clock. 4. Program the Teensy to act as an SIO2PC device through it's USB port. 5. Test the TKII keyboard circuitry. 6. Test the memory banking for 192k, 576k, and 1024k banking. Unable to test at this time due to chip shortage: 1. Onboard MIDI 2. Onboard SIO2PC (independent from the Teensy) Picture of sound circuitry. Note the added resistor...5 points

Start by looking at the demo under jaguar/3d in the jaguar-sdk. That demo already does a lot of the work for a 3D engine on the gpu: https://github.com/cubanismo/jaguar-sdk/tree/master/jaguar/3d This demo can also serve as an example how to get started on Jaguar development. demo.c is the file containing main() I must warn you that the state of Jaguar emulation is quite poor, I am not sure if any emulator is able to run 3D games well?4 points

Hello All! Here's a remake of the classic Atari 2600 "Snoopy vs the RedBaron". This is one of my favorite Atari games, so I decided to give it a modern touch. Animations and sprites are rendered from the original cartoon! Gameplay just like the original Sounds also from original cartoon Play for free at: Snoopy Vs RedBaron Trailer:4 points

I'm gonna be seen as the bringer of bad news again, but anyways... People who develop on the Jaguar nowadays do it for fun. Writing your own 3D engine from scratch? Challenging, but possibly fun. Untangling someone else's spaghetti code to salvage a 3D engine that isn't even particularly good in the first place? Frustrating and no fun. So the few people who are interested in 3D on the Jaguar already made their own engine. Regarding the original author: even if we brush the copyright issues aside, do you really think he'd be interested in digging into something that left him a sour taste and was a low point of his career? TL;DR: if you want this to happen, start working on it yourself.4 points

So, I discovered that this project is DASM version dependent (needs 2.20.14.1) due to the way macros are used. I don't quite remember what the macro issues were, I only vaguely remember when I ran into them before. Also, this project doesn't like to build within Atari Dev Studio... which is something I should probably fix. I am using a repository for this, but it is completely outdated. There are a lot of changes that I need to sort thru and commit (last commit was the January 5, 2021 build). Anyways... I've got this monster building again.4 points

I've been working on Keystone Kapers a bit more over this last week. I've had so much fun with this port (more than I expected truth be told). I think in terms of the game itself, it's now really close to being complete. In fact, I could call it done now and I'd be fairly happy, but there are a couple of things that just need that little bit more of a polish and rounding out and the perfectionist in me won't let that go Firstly, The way the double high bouncing balls work, I'm not happy the way that currently works so I'm going to rework it. Right now, I think the player has to adjust too much between the two balls and it's jarring when compared to how the other obstacles work, which seems more fluid. I know why they aren't "right" but now I just need to adjust it . Secondly, I'm thinking about how "ending the game" works. I don't think the other versions of Keystone Kapers have an "end", the game just keeps going until it's basically so fast that it's unplayable and the player runs out of lives. I'm ok with that (as that's how a lot of games historically were) but I'm not sure I like it. It seems a bit arbitrary. An alternative would be perhaps after a few of the super hard levels, (talking 16-20) to give the player a nice "completion" score reward but then send him back to level 1, but remove the ability to earn extra lives. I've never got past lvl 20 on any of the sources i've used for my adaptation and I'm also cognisant of wanting to stay "true" to the original sources. Not sure which to go with yet, would be interested to hear people's views on "game endings".4 points

Given the date the poll closes, it may be hard for people to vote on a game they haven't had a chance to play yet. I guess Gravitic Mines, and Dr. Typo Collection will have to compete against Asteroite next year I really like this initiative, a great way to create a little bit of healthy competition between game developers, as well as between the publishers.4 points

I have to admit it is very eager to work on a 3D engine for the Jaguar. Unfortunately I don't feel very motivated to work on OpenLara, as I have my own game ideas. If there is a way for this project to provide a generic 3D engine for the Jaguar that any developer can use, the I will support it to 100%.4 points

Since I happen to have them handy, here are the 60 fonts that come with XB GEM for consideration: Only a few are good 40 column fonts (which can probably be intuited by their width). Some are only really good with custom spacing in bitmap mode. As a result, note that this display is using 9px spacing (in TML).4 points

This is a generalization, the final cost of a video game has always been included in a range of a few tens of dollars and, excluding extreme cases, there has not been all the time a direct proportionality between the development cost, the copies sold, or the cost of physical media... an easy example: Dreamcast Shenmue and Dreamcast Resident Evil 2 vs N64 Namco Museum and N64 Resident Evil 2 (64MB). But that is not relevant here, with some exceptions, the development of an Atari Homebrew is essentially a labor of love and the developer usually either doesn't get any money or only gets a few cents for every hour of his hard work, so a fee we can call "unreasonable" if we paraphrase your words. But thanks to this "unreasonable" work, today you can find a lot of free ROMs, as well as having the opportunity to buy brand new cartridges in the AA store (with professional packaging and at the aforementioned cost of a few tens of dollars), the sale of which generates a small profit that is needed to help pay the heavy cost of maintaining the AA site. So, considering the generosity of the development, the high quality of the software, the high quality of the components and boards (including the ingenious hardware development), the high quality of the packaging and the excellent sales / shipping / warranty service, I really don't I can think that an Atari Homebrew purchased in the AA store has high costs, indeed I believe that the products and the service represent a reference of excellence. In addition, you can still save money by purchasing only the cartridge and the manual without the box. The next step will be to offer the option to purchase the digital ROM and this would also allow for further money saving, leaving (when available) the possibility of downloading a free demo to try the game. In fact, nobody here is asking for your money. Again, your thinking is crystal clear, you wrote that your problem is that people (developers in our case) want "money" for their hard work, but it is ABSOLUTELY legitimate to think that their ROMs should be downloaded for free (!). Of course, free is always better (!). Ironically, unfortunately the developers are only getting a few peanuts here. But I won't add anything else, I don't want to waste time and I don't care to change your mind. Generally speaking, I think that the time of the homebrew developers deserves more value and, although some people really have great gratitude for the release of free ROMs, over the years I have seen people who are too used to downloading free ROMs, to the point of taking it for granted or demand it arrogantly. And in the end, it may happen that what has been obtained for free begins to be perceived as something of little value. In light of these and other considerations, my opinion is that the right direction is to offer only demo versions for free and add the option to purchase digital ROMs. I think it could get good success and be a form of incentive for developers. That said, it is more than obvious that every developer (or publisher) is completely free to choose the direction they prefer and without the obligation to motivate it. They are two different markets that cover different needs and that have different prices (and I'm referring to the purchase of new, unused cartridges, of course). The cartridges of some of the best-selling games have already been coexisting, for some time, with the release of their free ROM. The next step is to offer the additional option of purchasing the digital ROM, the goal is not to replace the physical cartridge. Just as a side note, I have always been a collector of physical editions but as I get older the points of view have a broader horizon.4 points

Hooking up the Nintendo on the giant 25 inch living room. tv. (I think the tv was a zenith voyager or aquarius ?) when no one was home. Playing altered beast on Genesis for the first time. There was a Genesis under the xmas tree like a month before Xmas and I took the Genesis out and rewrapped the gift so I was playing all month and no one knew. I think columns was the other game. The graphics and the getting away with playing it a month before Christmas was really exciting.4 points

Well I think you're going to have a baked in group of collectors who want the complete package regardless. For the others (like myself) who are much more casual, a CIB may not be something we ever buy, for various reasons. At least a digital program provides the rest of us who may wish to tip the homebrewer. Most of these folks are programming for the challenge/fun, it's not much of a financially beneficial hobby. Furthermore, a good chunk are making use of copyrighted IP that thankfully they get away with in small quantities, but are technically pirating from the IP-holders. Harrr Harrr Harr! Last point I'd make on the cost aspect which @christo930 also brought up, I would admittedly have no interest paying $30-$40 for a ROM. Then again, many digital downloads on modern consoles are $10 or less, for instance. Odds are these roms will not have DRM attached, so there is zero resale value to them, unlike a homebrew physical release which frequently increase in value significantly. This does happen, although not very often as that entire process is kind of a pain in the neck, and who has the time?3 points

I help run a (non-gaming) forum, and we get bombarded by bots and spammers from Russian IP's all the time. As for the OpenLara itself, wow, great project! The GBA version looks very good, while the early 3DO needs work. I chatted with the guy doing the N64 version, he just started this week on it. Hope he has success. I don't see why it couldn't port to the Jaguar, the main issue is the lack of good emulation. .3 points

I like the last one! very nice and smooth sounds. Speaking of smooth sounds... I've come close to get done with some of my recent driver changes, and earlier today I got hit by a eureka moment, which means I may get a drastic performance boost with the code I've been tweaking for the last couple days now. As a result, I'm still in the process of working on it for the week end (and I mean, woohoo, it's Friday, I have the time for it!), but I have really good optimism about this. It's possibly going to be my best iteration of the driver hack so far, featuring multiple new features, optimisations, and some bug fixes that I had introduced in the process... So I cross my fingers to have something to show today, because I can say with confidence this really will make a big difference compared to the handful of stand alone tracker binaries revisions I posted recently. Think of those wip versions, throw them in the trash, because I really was making junk, compared to what I am experimenting with this time. It took me a lot of thoughts outside the box, but that's going to be worth the headache! I just hate that my week long progress is essentially worthless... because I've literally done much better than that just tonight, when I had a moment, before getting back home and have dinner ? I'll come back with more updates soon!3 points
