Thank you! Ok, So I've decided to *not* pack castle layout data, for two reasons: 1) I need the scrolling updates to happen as quickly as possible, and 2) I don't want to use up RAM as I'm trying to stick to stock configuration. Bonus Reason: It makes hacking levels that much easier The castle layouts will be in ROM, and the game will pick randomly from them (the same way Intellivision Cloudy Mountain does the overview maps). However *my* overview map *will* be randomly generated (with some rules as to not create unwinnable situations). The enemies/objects will be randomly placed within the castle once you enter.6 points

I'm happy to announce that I am now able to post my review of Astro Chase for the Atari 2600. While the original owner of the prototype does not want it to be released, a second prototype was recently found with more versions possibly coming. Permission was also granted from the current copyright owners to post the rom, so enjoy(?) this long lost Atari 2600 game. http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/astrochase/astrochase.htm Astrochase (10-25-83).bin5 points

Hey, we're working with acid maker on this. I do the atari an partially mux side, and acid maker makes new video encoder with more graphics modes dithered (160 and 320 pixels in horiz in colour and b&w) I am working on compatibility (well, partial) between PAL and NTSC, ie you can play PAL stream on NTSC machine and vice versa with lower sound quality and 6/5 or 5/6 of speed, but you can look into movie. @phaeron, The hiss CharlieChaplin mentioned is due to hscroll settings and different place in raster for pokey firing, it is over 4khz. There is a simple cure for that "100% busy and no time" you might have overlooked. When playing with NO hscrol, simply by eating bytes (3 or 2) per horizontal line between 80-byte line data, you can write them directly to sound registers Then you have full 32 cycles of CPU in hblank. I have even put 3 streams in those 32-12 cycles (because 12 is eaten by gtia switching); if three bytes , there are 2 channels of stereo covox (vol 0-200) and one for pokey (vol 0-100). When there are two bytes, there are ehough time to mux 2 stereo bytes to one mono pokey byte 2 bytes of data between lines for pokey: lda ide ads ide ror lsr sta audf1 sta stimer 20 cycles! 2 or 3 bytes of data between lines for covox: lda ide sta covoxl lda ide sta covoxr lda ide (if 3 bytes) 20 cycles! 3 bytes of data between lines for pokey: lda ide lda ide lda ide sta audf1 sta stimer. 20 cycles! The pokey firing is exactly in the same cycle of line regardles of number of sound bytes, so you have no harmonic frequencies below 15600hz (but you still have to cycle the rest of raster) The only thing to get those bytes almost compacted is to start hblank from cycle 100, not 104 (or 101, not 105) The music is louder due to sox settings, nothing more. I use linux/osx ffmpeg, sox tools to prepare avf.5 points

Here is new update of my site. It is faster and more responsive (many, if not all devices are supported). The major changes are in visual department, but eventually also colors will be accommodated for human eyes. Currently there are no changes in database, but this will happen periodically as time goes. Bitmap Bureau's quality twin-stick shooter has enjoyed ports to the Neo-Geo, Dreamcast, and modern platforms. As the Jaguar only has Llamatron and Total Carnage, Xeno Crisis would make a welcome addition to the Jaguar's library. I'll be attempting to implement the video player on SIDE3 shortly (there being no other volunteers), so any improvements in the toolchain and/or file format would be most useful indeed. SIDE3 will be using DMA to read the complete frame directly into cartridge SRAM, and the display will have to be carefully positioned so that the CPU has easy access to the audio data surrounding the image data.4 points

This vote was a good initiative, because now we have showed the world that there are some competing parties in the Jaguar scene as well. Hopefully this will encourage everyone to work harder, and that in the end there will be better games? Now Asteroite is already nominated for the Jaguar homebrew awards of 2022, and finally we managed to convince the arrangers that it makes sense to also include the Jaguar in this competition. It looks like there will be a bright future for the 64-bit homebrew scene... PS. I hope that we can wrap this up as friends now that I have given my speech for winning this specific poll? Thank you to everyone involved in Kings of Edom!4 points

I'm going to state the obvious here, but we had the chance to see 2 fantastic "big" releases in 2021 (with a lot of respects too for the other "smaller" ones), made by 2 very small teams of passionate people, and it would be a pity to see those same people argue and fight over such a small detail! For me both games deserved to win, but in the end I think the result is very satisfying. Last Strike won all the technical and artistics awards, but KoE won the main one, probably because it fills a hole in the Jag library that many Jag fans were waiting for. In the end, GG everyone, but please stop fighting! Your games are great, that's all that should matter!4 points

Thanks. This was a 2/3 days test of Jagstudio (to be honest, it was the second test, so not starting from scratch). 2 players, rooms are flexible (walls, ennemies), multiple weapons & ammo, health, no boss yet... But still lot of work to do (in fact, most of the work still to do) Right now, I focus on my tactical rogue like Lynx & Game Boy, then I want to make a full game for the Jaguar, this is of course one of the candidate...4 points

You should be able to use the v9t9 DISK link on tigameshelf.. download it and you get a Casino.dsk file. Use your web browser and go to the http://tipi.local:9900/ page. There is an icon that looks like an up-arrow pointing at a TI console... (upload files) ... click it... then select the 'choose files' button... a dialog opens up... find and select your Casino.dsk file, and close the dialog with the 'open' button... then press the 'upload' button. After a few moments, TIPI will extract the DSK file to a directory called CAS ( the volume name of the disk ) Now... go into TI BASIC and enter : CALL TIPI TIPICFG will load... set the automap or auto or whatever I alled it option to 'on', and 'w'rite the configuration... Now, insert an TI Extended Basic Cartridge... Go into TI Extended Basic... enter: RUN "TIPI.CAS.LOAD" --- I haven't actually tried TI Casino... but looking at the DISK, that should work -- EDIT: Yep, that works Dealer wins... cleaned me out... --- Setting the AUTOMAP feature on, will detect the PROGRAM image loading of the "LOAD" program, and map DSK1. to the directory it was loaded from, TIPI.CAS.4 points

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the awards for Zarkstars! I was really surprised to be nominated this year and to be able to participate in the event together with you. Thanks to the nomination committee for the 4 nominations, James and the ZeroPage Homebrew channel for the initiative, the award sponsors, everyone involved with the game project and those who liked, supported, bought and voted for Zarkstars. Congratulations to this year's participants and winners. Everyone did a good job. I'm very happy. Thank you very much! Leandro Camara4 points

Back in 1982 Joe Jacobs and Dennis Clark put together a personal version of PlayCable, called PlayComp. This used PDP-11 computers they had at home to "broadcast" games over a serial connection to their development kits based on Jerrold PlayCable adapters. I believe it was the rarest and best version of PlayCable. I've put together a replica of PlayComp that uses modern hardware to run the system on a regular Intellivision Master Component. You can find a short explanatory video, showing PlayComp in use and its advantages over the standard PlayCable service here: Joe, Dennis and the other Jerrold engineers constructed a library of over 40 games for use with PlayComp, and its pre-cursor PlayTape. In addition to the standard Mattel titles, this included games from Activision, Imagic and Coleco (yes, the dreaded Donkey Kong even made it both PlayTape and PlayComp). Overall, I've found PlayComp to be slick and reliable, offering a significantly better user experience that the real PlayCable service, thanks to its use of two-way communication between the server and adapter. So, now I have a PlayCable of my very own (well, sort of). What's more, unlike most adapters, it's not a doorstop, and it's even a variant that @cmart604 doesn't own! Let me know what you think. Now I really must stop being distracted by shiny things, and get back to Jack Lalanne, or @Ron The Cat is going to kill me. Cheers decle3 points

Unfortunately, I didn't overlook this, it's actually intentional. When I was working on this, I found that some CompactFlash cards had problems reliably streaming data continuously over the entire frame. There's no time to buffer or check for data ready, so if the CF card isn't ready in time, the CPU/ANTIC reads garbage data and stream sync is lost. To ensure reliable operation, the format is arranged to leave enough idle cycles in horizontal blank for the CF card to prepare the next sector. That's why the normal width format is arranged with three lines contained within 128 bytes with a larger gap at the end, to ensure enough time between sectors. This isn't necessary with all cards and you might be OK with the cards that you are using and the specific timing, but YMMV.3 points

It's just that the built-in emulator in the Flashback is very inaccurate. Here, Nukey Shay converted a lot of games to work with the portable, describing the many issues of that device: e.g.: post 175: post 223: post 232: post 326: post 327: post 341: post 375:3 points

Just to be clear, here is my position: Rygar started to toy with the game kit creator I released as beta last year. He made some prototypes, and asked me how he could release it. I offered to help him either by publishing them, either by help him with production. Finally, as Rygar said, he made 2 full games Both are independant, with a beginning and an end, there is not a story where you need to complete one to play the other one (remember, this is a bit like Ynxa, but with only 1 character, and you do not unlock power-up, you have all your abilities from the start). We finally agreed on the fact he will sell them in a bundle (I just flashed the PCB & built the carts), and that after he sells his production, he will let me sell them as Flash on Demand as a kind of reward for the tool. While working on games and packaging, he created a third game because he had other level design ideas, and decided to keep it as an exclusive and incentive for the limited release. I you ask me as a publisher, of course I'd prefer to have 3 new games in catalog instead of 2, but I understand Rygar's argument. 11 people paid over than 100€ for having these limited release, maybe some of them would not have pay if they knew all 3 games would be available in a near future for a lower price. So changing the rules after the sale would not be fair... By the way, I am working on the Flash on Demand release, note there is no mention of numbers on the stickers (and some other stickers are still work in progress ; )...3 points

I'm really sorry I didn't make more kits. But I did this alone at home and it took me a very long time and investment to make these 15 boxes. I understand that some people are disappointed not to be able to try the number 1, so I'll clarify one thing, at the beginning there was to be only one game, Protect the love, with a woman as a character, but as I had a lot of fun making this game I decided to make the second one with this time a man as a character, Save the love. Then I wanted to produce alone a small box with these games but the price was increasing a lot as I was adding stuffs in the box so to justify the price I decided to make another game in a little different style (black and white) whose purpose was to motivate people to buy the box and justify the price. There is no continuity in the story, each game is a complete game. Don't blame me for only making 15 copies, I understand now that it was a bad idea to limit the production of a game. But I really didn't imagine that more than 15 people would be interested. In the future if I do other actions like this I will only make small differences between the normal games and the limited versions.3 points

Right now, I use 3 buttons (1 is like Llamatron on ST _ keeps firing in direction when it was pressed, 1 is firing in the direction you are moving) The game is also on hold because I am waiting for a Pro Controller (with Gravitic Mines bundle) to test the 4 direction setup I ddid not test the keypad option, but I am not sure to like it. I know Total Carnage use it, so I may have to test TC during a next AC or RGC show3 points

Keep working on it. How will you implement the twin-stick controls? The Pro-Controller has a nice diamond of action buttons that would be perfect, but the three-button would need to use simplified controls, or the use of the Keypad.3 points

Thanks. I chose that option since it seemed quick and easy. I have the period in the score now. Next will be how to efficiently let the user select the speed in the score and have that reflected in the actual speed of the sprite. For example, if the user selects 1.02, I'll have to match that. Instead of letting the user move the sprite, I might just have two sprites bouncing back and forth horizontally. The user would be able to select between the sprites in the same way that they can when using the Find Border Coordinates example program (by holding the fire button and pressing up or down). Once a sprite is selected, the user would move the joystick up/down to quickly change the numbers or left/right to slowly change the numbers like they can in the 8 x 8 World example program.3 points
