  1. For the first time ever I read the manual and now I FINALLY understand how to play E.T.! And honestly? It's not that bad of a game once you know what you're supposed to do. E.T. is kind of like a really obtuse take on the Adventure formula, and I'm happy to have learned how to play it after all these years Here's a link to the manual for anyone still struggling to figure out how to play this game: https://atariage.com/manual_html_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=157 E.T. 3. The INTY Homebrew News & Spotlight - Pre-PRGE/September 2022 Edition will premiere on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 8:00PM EST. Immediately afterwards, I'll be joined by Brian for a Live Stream, where we can all discuss the Intellivision Homebrew Scene, and talk to Brian about how he learned to program for the Intellivision using Nanochess's INTYBasic and had his first game published in just one year! I hope that you can join in, or watch the replays later! 👍

  7. The walls are too thin for filament printing (according to one manufacturer), so SLS is required. It's not cheap. I went with Shapeways, and the result is not disappointing. The fit is perfect. Now I have to design a circuit board for it.

  8. Hi, This is a project that I've started some time ago and never finished. I'm sharing it here so that you can test and gve me your feedback, this will hopefully force me to finalise it. The game is complete, in the sense you can end it, but needs some polishing especially in the opponents IA. I'd like also to add some more difficulties, like obstacles on the road and road width variations. the game is a "remake" of an Amstrad CPC game, I've added a bit of a story behind: Here is the rom file : Asphalt.rom

  9. Hilarious. 47,000 lines of code so far produced by me for SIDE3 and you want it open-sourced because that's the only way to assure continued development.

  10. I would much prefer everyone play the full version, but I have been able to build a 128K "small" ROM of the game which only includes a single background (the island graphics). It also lacks the YM music, but you wouldn't get that anyway. It appears to run OK on RetroArch and Prosystem. Concerto owners can also run this build while waiting for the firmware update. It seems to run OK, other than interference on characters in the title and high score screens. 1942sr.a78

  11. Hi! Here is another simple game written in Mad-Pascal. This game was written in 36 hours on Game Jam event called Grawitacja 2022. In a limited time, you must collect as many coins as possible. The longer you hold down the fire button, the higher the cart will jump. My highest score is 49, can you beat it? Sources are avaliable here: https://gitlab.com/bocianu/cartfall cartfall.xex

  12. Update 2.39 - 2022-10-10 Added usbmount package, and configured soft link for "TIPI.USB." to see the first auto mounted usb storage device. writing is synchronous, so when your 4A or whatever has returned from a write operation you should be able to pull the device out. Using more peripherals may require a healthy powersupply for the PI.

  13. When looking at suggestions like these it is pretty obvious to see how dumb of an idea their controller and requirement to shoehorn in it's use was. They should have just made a simplistic controller and direct port as many quality games. Direct ports wouldn't need extra dev time and you could give the devs a bigger cut to offset the "affordable" price range. Then if you want to have a multiplarer focus do that with your in house titles. Not to mention that games like Children of Morta does have multiplayer.

  14. Big improvement for me, but although it's early in the week, I think that's my lot on this one. It's nowhere near as bad a game as it's reputation suggests, and it's nearly a very good one. I agree with @Rickster8 that the thing that really causes the frustration is not so much the pits (there is a logic to those once the game mechanics are understood), but the "needle in a haystack" challenge of trying to find the call point. Unless you're lucky enough to stumble on it naturally (which I did for my high score) , it's very easy to lose thousands of points just looking for that. And with seemingly no rhyme or reason to where it is, finding it feels more like luck than judgement. I think I have something half respectable so will probably stop here. Anyway, that's enough of me moaning, here's a (improved) score.

  15. Thank you! Quick update: The monitor ended up being more quirky / wavy than originally found. So I replaced it with a 17" LCD capable of Standard Definition (it takes RGBSync as input). I'm currently 3D printing the bracket to mount it with. 13" *working* tubes are becoming VERY difficult to obtain. I tried the same trick with a 13" TV that I did with the Pac-Man cabaret that I rebuilt (those used a 13" monitor also), but for some reason the picture looked absolutely horrible on it. So, LCD it is. It isn't perfect, but the picture is still much better than it was. I'm in the middle of replacing all bulbs with these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQB8JFQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Picked up 80 (8 packages) of them. Once I have them all in, I'll work on the 'some lights permanently *on*' issue. Haven't looked into whatever I did to the left flipper to make is stop working, but at this point I don't believe it's a fuse issue. I've looked them all over and they all seem to be ok. I bought replacement fuses just in case. Bob

  20. Here's a code segment - probably not exactly what you're looking for, but here it is. It assumes DEC is a DECimal input, and T(E) == 2^X for X=0 to 15 (so basically an extra conversion here from decimal to binary before then converting to hex). 100 BIN$="" :: FOR E=15 TO 0 STEP -1 110 IF DEC>=T(E)THEN BN16$(E)="1" :: DEC=DEC-T(E) 120 BIN$=BIN$&BN16$(E):: NEXT E 130 HEX$="" :: FOR E=3 TO 0 STEP -1 140 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1111" THEN HX$(E)="F" 150 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1110" THEN HX$(E)="E" 160 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1101" THEN HX$(E)="D" 170 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1100" THEN HX$(E)="C" 180 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1011" THEN HX$(E)="B" 190 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1010" THEN HX$(E)="A" 200 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1001" THEN HX$(E)="9" 210 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="1000" THEN HX$(E)="8" 220 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0111" THEN HX$(E)="7" 230 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0110" THEN HX$(E)="6" 240 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0101" THEN HX$(E)="5" 250 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0100" THEN HX$(E)="4" 260 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0011" THEN HX$(E)="3" 270 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0010" THEN HX$(E)="2" 280 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0001" THEN HX$(E)="1" 290 IF SEG$(BIN$,-4*E+13,4)="0000" THEN HX$(E)="0" 300 HEX$=HEX$&HX$(E):: NEXT E

  22. If I'm sounding like I'm trying to be "superior", my apologies; that isn't my intention. But, I just wanted to stand up on my soap box for a moment and say, I find it painful to watch the so many YouTubers out there making videos of themselves playing Intellivision games and appear to have no clue about what they're doing. I don't know if they're just trying to be funny, attempting to focus on what they think are shortcomings in our classic Intellivision games, or if they just just don't know anything about games they're playing. I'll give you an example: Triple Action. I've watch a handful of videos now of "popular" YouTubers trying to play Triple Action. Most of them, at some point, say "Now, how do I control my tank/plane?", or "how do I shoot?", or "I can't seem to select a one player game." What kind of "game review" video am I watching here? Where's the part about how you can set up your tank to shoot around corners? Or how about the "secret" position on the screen that allows you to drive your tank off the screen and shoot at your opponent from beyond their reach? What about one of my favorites, Tron Deadly Discs? Where's the game review video that shows you that special place to stand that turns you invulnerable to all enemy discs? Or how about the way that you can do "super auto-shots" (that's what I call them) in the games Astrosmash and Space Hawk. I guess I'm just not finding the right Intellivision video game player on YouTube... the gamers who actually know how to play Intellivision games. Anyway, I'll come down off of the soapbox now and end my rant. If you know of some good Intellivision game players on YouTube, please let me know.

  24. Yeah, I've got a project that I'm doing for free. The amount of time involved might pay for a decent used car if I were getting real work wages. And yet I get "is it done yet, is it done yet", and if I release it they'll be "fix this", "fix that"... for free. It's not fair to expect someone to spend so much time on something, only to give it away. If someone chooses to do that, good for them, but don't just assume it should be open source. A significant amount of personal time was sacrificed for this project, and it's only fair to receive some compensation it they want it.

  25. And then there are exchange rates, which make things yet more rewarding. The 'FJC' agreement which was worth GBP 11 per unit two years ago is now worth GBP 9, and the SIDE3 agreement currently nets GBP 7 per unit (again, down on when the deal was cut) on a device currently selling for 100 pounds in the UK. This would be great if I did all my food shopping at ALDI in Warsaw.

If anyone wants to hack on the relevant code in the firmware, it's here: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-platformio/blob/master/lib/media/atari/diskTypeAtr.cpp#L113 (sector range code is temporarily removed, as the compiler is doing a very bizarre optimization that needs a work-around) I have also created a repository for all the high score tools that will be made to extract high score sectors for web display: https://github.com/FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-high-scores To that effect, one of the example scrapers for Jumpman is up, this link will change. http://scores.irata.online/jumpman.html (temporary) -Thom

  36. Thanks for the heads up. It's always a good reminder to check to see what else a developer has put out. "Sundered" looks really good. Yeah, the affordable part is tough. There is such a backlog of quality games that doesn't go away. In the 80-90s, you would have to hunt around in bargain bins to find 5 year old titles. If you were lucky, maybe you could order an older PC game from a company's catalogue. Now, that bargain bin sends out engraved invitations and you don't even have to wait in line. It's really an embarrassment of riches.

  38. Children of Morta was great. I think you will continue to like it. The family members play differently enough to mix things up if battle gets stale. One of the others (Geeks with Cash I think) said they aren't asking questions of IE so they can get work done and get YOU your refund that you've been waiting on. 🤣 By that same line of reasoning they and Tommy are the reason that no one has an Amico. Only now, when the truth isn't as easily dismissed, is talking to IE a bad thing. They wanted the attention when they thought they were so special with their heads so far up Tommy's butt. 40. Um, well - it's not available because it was a licensed work. And because, copyright and the agreement that Tursi had with the IP holder. And because the person who has spoken up to take over the work likely hasn't had the cycles to work on it yet. As someone who's coordinated community projects (750 Guidry 16K/64K ROM carts were produced and distributed), and helped designed some (UberGROM co-designer), it's a lot of work for a person. In my case, @Ksarul stepped up and took over the production and distribution of the ROM carts and works with @arcadeshopper to get them in people's hands. I agree that there are a handful of very anxious people who want to get ahold of this product, because it's one of the most kick-butt cartridges ever released for this console. But, you must remain patient. When @Albert decides to start working on it, he'll say something. Or, in the odd event that someone else takes it over, re-negotiates all the agreements with the IP holder, and re-tools the programming of the cartridges and gets them made and assembled, then they'll be ready. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day.

  44. Magellan as a CAD tool. I needed something to jumpstart my thinking about the circuit board layout. Made a change using the "clone" tool: Making the changes in KiCad destroys my routing so far. Oh well, it must be done. This revision 'Swan' is where I cut the creeping featurism down a level. It is buildable, with no FPGA or packages finer than 1.27". This board is a all-in-one computer with a serial port. There is 128K ROM on board, and 256K RAM. I did not want to use the 1.27mm pitch SOJ RAM yet, which would give half a megabyte per footprint, so 1MiB on board. It uses a LS612 memory mapper, so it is definitely not able to pack the 8-bit page register two per word. So no MDOS compatibility yet. Still, there are 8 page registers at F100 (one word each) . The two PLDs break out many other signals for Geneve 9640 and GPL memory-mapped IO and external bus access. The ROM responds at page F0, RAM starts at page 0, and that weird page number routes to an external card for Speech etc. I will be testing all that. My goal is to make a big step forward, not finish everything at once. Nonetheless, I have the option to plug an FPGA/memory mapper board into the LS612 socket! With an XC9572XL on that, I can reach full 9640 memory-map compatibility, without having to make a whole new board. This board has the NuBus interface to a backplane. A VDP card would go onto the backplane. With the LS612, it has 25 bit addressing. (32 MiB). The plan is for 28 bits (16+12) in a 2-level page management unit. The first 1/8th (4 MiB) of physical address space is on-board. Externally, 16 MiB is dedicated to specific card slots, and there is uncommmited 12 MiB for more RAM.
