  6. https://github.com/wavemotion-dave/A8DS V3.7 : 04-June-2023 by wavemotion-dave Update to Screen Blur to have just 3 settings: NONE, LIGHT and HEAVY. Default is LIGHT. Improvements to memory layout to gain back additional resources. Fix for 576K COMPY RAM so that it properly handles separate ANTIC memory access. Minor fixes and cleanup as time permitted. This is probably it for a while... just a few minor cleanups. A bit of spit-and-polish. I've got some other projects that call for attention so I'm going to let this one sit for a bit.

  8. I managed to build this today, have to admit the quality of the text is stunning, only on a breadboard at the moment, but works fine, looks a bit fuzzy at the top, but that's just the angle I had the mobile when recording this.. Ignore the vertical lines on the monitor, it's a faulty one, but handy for testing things like this. Also ignore the other components on the breadboard, just leftovers from something else, they are not connected, only the Pico, HDMI interface and the lever shifter. Edit: Here's the .UF2 file 20230604_160426.mp4 xep80.uf2

  12. With homebrewers making amazing Atari 2600 games these days, will someone eventually get around to making Toy Bizarre? Or would it have to be for the Atari 7800 since there are so many objects on the screen at the same time? youtu.be/n9SqTrhit8c

  14. I think you should consider a second bar for the rage meter (which is always instantly filled), so a player could unleash the dreaded "tantrum" special move. It has the effect of the player's dino disappearing and the victory is awarded to the opponent. Also change the game's title to Dino Rage Quit.

  15. I really like to read posts soaked in tears. They warm my heart. Anyway I have been playing the game on real hw (with joystick) and wondering why you find it that hard. I was able to win level13 on 4th try with my 3 years old son sitting on my knees... for increased difficulty. Level 14 on 9th try. Unfortunately I have found bug in level 17 (pyramid) - nothing that helps/prevents to win the level, but at some stage of level design (in general) I decided to remove the numbers indicating sub-goals after they are reached... and I forgot to implement that in this level (and also in the level after)... so I will release another version soon with these cosmetic changes... together with a "training mode" without shooting projectiles, but don't expect it to be too merciful. Games are supposed to be played, don't be frustrated if you cannot win the level on first try... it requires skill to beat the game and most of time it is not that much about binary calculations.

  18. Sunsoft did more than publish them - they funded the original development of Myst (and I think The Manhole) and own all console rights in perpetuity. If you check any console ports like DS or PSP they all have the Sunsoft logo. Cyan would not have made it without Sunsoft.

  19. I was a member. Probably during the 84/85 time frame. One of my Hardcopy’s (the only one I ever found) is up on archive.org. Around this time of the newsletter you posted is pretty close to the time the 8-bit people broke off and started LVAUG (Lehigh Valley Atari User Group). So many names from the past on that newsletter. Great memories.

  22. OK, here's the new dogecoin logic. I think it works. Essentially you collect coin that falls on you, rather than dying. You can still stand under a coin - it will not immediately fall into you. To get a chain of coin to start falling -- move up then down again, and all the coin above will tumble down onto you. If you happen to trigger a falling of dogecoin, and there happens to be a rock somewhere directly above -- well you better be aware and dodge it. WenHop_20230604@16_31_37.bin

  24. "Just joshing, bro" - "I'm making a joke, Bro" - and other assorted excuses other people use. Honestly, its just a little light roasting. Like that Christmas Fireplace you did... or when you just straight up used sprites from downfall in another of your reskins. Let's call it a homage to... Anyone remember the blue cart shell fiasco for Shark Byte? Anyway, its good to see you finally make something that isn't doger reskinned or fast food 3d reskinned. And it's all your own work too! Apart from the sprites. And the background. And the music. And the API. You know what, Jeff. I'll bow out of this thread. The energy to follow it won't be worth the outcome. Good luck, I hope one day you make something worth playing.

  27. Rabbit Transit: 71195 Communist Mutants: 151090 It seems that only the blue and orange colored mutants dive bomb you in a manner that kills you even when your shield is up. I'm thinking it's practical to target these ships first when the game is slowed in warp mode. Then, stay away from the convoy as much as possible the rest of the round.

  33. Twin Snakes Run is an uncomplicated puzzle game reminiscent of the popular snake. It differs from other games of this type in that we control two twin snakes at once, which move in the same directions, creating the same route, but mastering mazes with different obstacles. We don't collect anything here, and the trick is to lead both snakes to the exit at once. Blocking one of them makes it impossible to continue the game and then the level must be restarted. The snake gets longer with each "step" and cannot go through itself. There are 32 levels, and the level of difficulty usually increases with each new one. For ease, we can also start the game from 10 or 20 level. The game was written in 6502 assembler and it is my first program in this language, because so far I have only tried coding in Atari Basic ("Tuneup", "Troll's Treasure" and "Moon Quest" games). The impulse to try to write something in assembler was the series of videos "Let's Make EdVenture" on the YouTube channel "Mission: Ed Possible", where the author presents the creation of a roguelike game for small Atari from scratch. During the development of "Twin Snakes Run" Marek "Xeen" Cora was a great support to me, he gave advice, explained many things, and also wrote some procedures that make the game work, look and sound much better. The title artwork was created by Piotr "Piesiu" Radecki. The rest of the work (game mechanics, level art, music) was done by me. There was an idea to make a few copies on a cassette tape for the creative team, but finally we decided with Jerzy "Duddie" Dudek to release it in his company Retronics, in the "Classic" version for those interested (limited to 50 copies). Jerzy "Mono" Kut also came with support, who prepared a loader for the cassette release, as well as Konrad "Gades" Leśniak, who lent one of his songs (more specifically "Nightride" from the album Runaway from 2017), which is played on the second channel when loading a game from a tape. The game should run on any configuration. It was tested on Atari 400/800 and XL/XE series. It supports both PAL and NTSC systems. A minimum of 32kB of RAM is required. The snakes are controlled with a joystick. Other control keys: FIRE - start or restart of the level START - start from level 01 or return to the title menu SELECT, OPTION - start from level 10 or 20 Game is avaliable to buy at https://retronics.eu/ please contact publisher directly. 35. I'm still curious why the artist isn't here, as most of what we've been seeing are art assets. Is "3D artist Jose Diaz" a partner in this project, similar to the programmer+artist teams we've seen in other projects? or were his creations simply licensed from him, and he's not an active participant in this project? Honestly not even trying to bust balls here, I'm genuinely curious about the art and how it was created.

  39. I seem to recall that someone was working on a 3D-printed replacement for the cylinder that holds the pens; it was intended to be able to hold something that is currently-available. Can't remember specifics either, but if I can dig them up I'll add them to the thread. The pens are the one thing keeping mine from being usable, so this is something that's certainly of interest to me. Had one of these when they were current and would love to see it working again.

  41. Based on your previous posts, shouldn’t you actively avoid this type of negativity and embrace the positives of “people actually enjoying things?” Shouldn’t you be more like “sure, there’s some bad, but there’s a ton of awesomeness, too, and I choose to embrace the awesomeness!” Or maybe you were previously full of crap and just doing some good ol’ soapbox trolling and you really prefer to spread the gloom n’ doom at every opportunity, determined to argue with everyone to ensure they’re pulled away from things they’re enjoying while trying to drag them into the same ol’ miserable “everything is crap” train of thought. Also, don’t forget that when you first started posting here, you were adamant that the thing that’s gonna “save gaming” was a vaporware/scam console idea that was literally promising a game library of some of the weakest MODERN gaming that we have to offer – like ports of mobile free-to-play stuff - and when they started showing off these titles, we all got to see they were built with assets stolen from, get this… existing MODERN games. So ya know, maybe you don’t have the best record of knowing what’s what regarding this hobby at the moment.

  42. This is one of my favorites and was one of the first games where I posted a score to Twin Galaxies, after pulling my 2600 out of the box it was stored in for about 30 years. A key factor to my strategy is that you move slower when eating dots. You can outrun all four ghosts when traveling a clear path, free of dots. While eating dots, Blinky is much faster than you and Pinky is slightly faster than you. Early each maze, I find it best to stay away from Blinky while clearing a path or two to a tunnel. I start each board with a partial pattern to help clear this path. I usually wait until most dots are cleared before eating the energizers since I stand a better chance of getting all four ghosts if I'm not slowed down eating dots. I try to maximize my score in the early game so I have a good base score if I have a good run in the late game. An argument can be made for not taking the risk to eat blue ghosts in the late game since they don't stay blue for very long. I still try to eat one or two of them, not for the 200-400 points, but because it removes a ghost or two from the board while their eyeballs go back to the ghost pen. The video is an old game, so this score doesn't count for this week.
