  1. I dropped a new v0.27 7800basic release at github. Changes include... feature: RMT tracker import and playback feature: significantly faster boxcollision when using constant height+width feature: misc 7800header updates In case anyone is wondering why... the version skipped ahead due to interim 7800AsmDevKit releases. (they're from the same code base, and have version parity)

  3. It was the god damn color pot.. Checked the color signal on a oscope, looked very different from the working machines, went through the Sams troubleshoting for color, which had me look at voltage while adjusting the pot, went back to the oscope signal, and looked very different from before, more like the signals from the working computers. Plugged it in, and damned if it wasn't coming up green. Sprayed some deoxit in it, worked it around, then adjusted it back to the standard blue background. That's all it was..

  9. Episode 47 - Something Different. http://intellivisionaries.com/episode-47-something-different/ In this episode Rick and Chris talk through recent news in the Intellivision community while working out how to do this show without Paul's constant snarkiness. There's a Homebrew Highlight segment covering IntellivisionRevolution's Missile Domination releases and a bonus segment including the recording of news that was originally intended for episode 46. Doesn't sound like nearly 3 hours of content, does it? It's our first episode under "new management" - i.e. Rick did the sound editing and production on this. We're genuinely interested in honest feedback about the show. But be gentle! I don't know how much criticism my little Intelli-heart can take!

    3 points
  16. Yeah, any decent 2 player (or more) board or card game -- which is basically the majority of what I'm interested to work on. Yahtzee (up to 4 player) and Mastermind are the two closest to the front of my queue (and most likely in that order). Mainly because they'd be the easiest to work on. [Note: the Yahtzee example is using some colors here that are just placeholders]

I ran OCR on it, so it should be moderately searchable. Hope you like it. 2084862887_Atari810ServiceManualRev3.pdf

  18. With lots of Ram and the right software in theory you could get sort of close to Amiga sound quality given it's 8 bit playback and you could probably brute force over 24,000 samples / second. What examples you see around could well have been done with 48K systems in mind and use fairly low sampling rates. But it's not a widespread device and there's not a huge amount of software or support for it. Know the difference old vs new? I doubt there would be much.

  20. Floppy disks on the TI don't generally support subdirectories... but ForceCommand supports all those harddrive type things including TIPI. The Myarc hard drive extensions gave us directories, where there is a LVL2 IO routine to set the unit #'s directory before performing unit # based operations, since all of those original TI LVL2 routines just take a 10 character file name... There are additional routines for creating, and removing a directory. Anyway... I sent you a private message with an alpha of ForceCommand that will support treating 'DSK.' as a drive. I can't really support this on TIPI, cause 'TIPI' is unit 0. It makes all kinds of things ambiguous... I might follow up with making sure ForceCommand disallows 'DSK.' if it has already seen 'TIPI.', otherwise direct-input and direct-output operations on TIPI would get very confused.

  21. Here is a relatively high resolution (5700x2500) TI-99/4 promotional spread I've gone to the trouble of photographing in segments, combining and retouching. And individual games aside, I think this one would make for a good framed TI-99 wall item. Fairly rare 99/4 promo flyer, from what I can tell. The release flyer's the more common one. That and the other 99/4 promo stuff is on my catalogues/manuals site. But those are generally paginated as PDFs, and not saved at as high a resolution as this.

  24. I agree that this game is excellent and it would be great if they could make changes to throw on a cart. However that has been addressed and especially given what's happened lately, it's not something I think we'll see anytime soon. This game was a gift from the developers who gave us something that plays and looks fantastic, sounds incredible (on the right hardware) and works on most flash carts to one degree or another. As much as I would enjoy seeing it available on cartridge, this is one game where I would count your blessings that it was made available and free to all. The developer community on the 7800 has cut their teeth on some of the greatest ports I've seen, now I'd love to see what original games they can think of!

  26. The ScamCart2600 is an ongoing project aimaing at creating a cheap development cartridge for the Atari 2600. Instead of storing the binaries on a luxury SD card with an $1 expensive SD card reader or $2 wifi module, it will be sent via USB. The target it to be able to build the cart for less than 7€ for one piece. Maybe 4€ including shipping for a 10-20 units batch. Why this name ? I first wated to make a really cheap devboard using the spare Bluepill many already have and call it the SpareCart2600, but I failed and ordered a BlackPill. This more than doubled the price of the project. It's a scam. The cart will be very limited : I definitively don't plan to implement more than the 4K an E7 scheme because that's all I use. It is not designed for fancy 3D printed or repurposed case. More knowledgeable people than I am already made really great carts that work and have been tested. They are of course a bit more expensive, but @electrotrains already announced he is working on the 2600PicorCart which is basically the same idea. I wouldn't adive anybody to get interested in my project rather than my. (to be honnest, I thought about gaving up my project when he announced his, but he convinced me that we would never have too much options ) Finally, the shape of the PCB itself is designed so you can fit 4 in a standard 100x100mm cheap pcb size. Manufacturers don't accept panelisation on the cheap offer, but if you get llucky sometimes they just accept it instead of loosing time discussing with you via email. It is also a bit dangerous : not all clones of the BlackPill have a protection diod on Vusb which is required kind of required (except if you always power it via the usb cable and don't solder a diode on the cart's pcb). I had to not connect all the 5V pins together because some older version of the BlackPill have a GND pin which is a +5V pin on most versions, but the other +5V pin on the BlackPill is a GND on some BluePill clones... There also are some old versions of the BlackPill where a button on the board directly ties a pin to GND. The 6502 may not like that. There might be some other quirks I'm not aware of. By calling this card "ScamCart2600", I hope it will keep away people who are looking for a safe device. Are you doing everything wrong ? I will try to make *some* thigs right : The code and source and documentation will be opensource, free for not commercial use I spent lot of time looking for a cheap and easy to source board that has enough 5V Compliant pins and that runs fast enough and requires few ans easy soldering. If I manage to make the "upload all code via usb and keep it in ram" thing work, I'll open pull request to existing projects

  27. Recently I've been in the mood to play PC Engine . I haven't used it in a good 6 months. Was surprised to find out the Avenue Pad 3 cable had become sticky. Be sure to clean your cables guys Anyway, today I'm playing a overhead run'n gun called Mystic Formula by Micro Cabin. It looks great at 1440p on my LG. You can tell the game was programmed poorly (as to be expected by Micro Cabin) because there's alsorts of crap the appears in the overs scan areas which you wouldn't normally see on a CRT. In this case we have a double set of character specs. I wonder which game influenced the design of this last boss πŸ˜›

  28. Iga Ninden Gaiou: Nichibutsu's forgotten hack-&-slash platformer. It suffers from being too slow for its own good. For those who missed Kaze Kiri before: I bet if this had better level design and a camera, this would have been one of the best platform games on the system. Still, I'd like to see these two and Goetzdiener get fan translated.

  29. Current status : I made some estimation about the time it will take to translate the data on separated pins of the BlackPill, make them usable as 12bits address and 8bits data, and that should fit in the 300ns a 2MHz MOS 6502 gives you to answer with data once the address is available. I made symbols and footprint fot the BlackPill under Kicad and checked I could fit 4 pcb in a 100x100 rectangle.

  33. Nothing set in stone here...just testing out a few different layouts for a twin-stick controller for the Jaguar: #1 - 14" x 8.5" - This would basically be a dedicated Total Carnage controller...great option for a 2nd twin-stick Total Carnage controller when playing with a friend (less-expensive than all out full-featured). Twin joysticks with arcade-accurate 6.5" joystick center-to-center separation...and a "Bomb" button located centered/above the joysticks...assuming the Jaguar port has this feature like the arcade game does...and it doesn't need the other 2 buttons. I don't have the manual for this game, nor have I played it that much to really know it's nuances. #2 - 17" x11.5" - "Universal" Jaguar controller, with a 2nd joystick...not quite Total Carnage Arcade accurate, with only 5.5" joystick center-to-center spacing...but useable with basically all games. #3 - 17" x 11.5" - "Universal" Jaguar controller, with a 2nd "outboard" joystick...useable with basically all games. #4 - 20" X 11.5" - "Universal" Jaguar controller, with Total Carnage arcade accurate 6.5" joystick center-to-center spacing and centered keypad, and a dedicated/additional "Bomb" button located centered/above the joysticks. This will be the one I would build for myself, if I decide to build myself a twin-stick controller as my 2nd Jaguar arcade controller. Again...these are just initial trial layouts. I'd have to print them all out to test for physical interferences when manipulating the controls. FYI...there isn't really much cost difference with these 3 different controller sizes...I think something like about +$10 per each size increase 14 to 17, 17 to 20. The real extra costs come in with all of the extra hardware...depending on all of the installed features/options.

  34. Yeah; you can use paddles with the standard kernel using the "readpaddle" kernel option. Yes. Atari Dev Studio us an extension for Visual Studio Code, and works on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Highly recommended! Yes; bB can use bank switching or SuperChip on-cart RAM. This doesn't have anything to do with save features, high score saving, etc. For that, an AtariVox or SaveKey may be plugged into the second joystick port. The bB manual has some links to forum posts giving instructions on how to use these within bB. Yes; absolutely there are tradeoffs. Atari 2600 kernels are custom-crafted to provide what the game needs while saving processor/display time by removing what isn't needed. bB lets you do some of this with the kernel options where you can enable some features at the expense of others, but it is still not as flexible as pure assembly. Probably the biggest limitation of the standard kernel would be not being able to reuse the two hardware sprites elsewhere on the screen in order to get more sprites. The Multisprite kernel can do this, but has other limitations (ROM-only symmetric playfield). The DPC+ kernel can also do this with less limitations, but requires carts with hardware assistance in the form of the ARM processor. I hope this was helpful!

  36. @JasonACT, we are dealing with really old software that never thought new hardware would ever come into existence. Rich Extended Basic won't be alone. We know that The Missing Link / TML, will also choke if the 'floppy disk controller' hasn't performed the equivalent of CALL FILES(3) during the powerup entry in the DSR ROM. After much discussion previously, and then again when I came around with TIPI, the consensus was, even though your storage device doesn't need sector buffers in VDP, it is wise to let the default state reserve those buffers. Here is the part in my TIPI powerup routine that handles this: https://github.com/jedimatt42/tipi/blob/51855d04633b834f278da938a0ec9a8da753a813/hardware/dsr/powerup.a99#L27 - you'll notice, I only do this if running at crubase 1100, as I'm responsible for being the floppy controller. This code isn't ideal either, as I don't read the current value, and then subtract what I want, instead I just slam 5 bytes int there. I no longer remember why... Why? : - If we don't do this, people may unwittingly produce disk software in XB using your device that is too large to load into someone's XB using a real Floppy Controller, unknowingly... - Old software made assumptions, and users will pester you about it if it doesn't work. - The BASICs have additional work area associated to each sector buffer, handled by the CALL FILES... But, 1st and foremost, it is your hobby time... There is always going to be something that isn't compatible, 'cause old assumptive software is out there. Note, this is just a suggestion that would likely work around the problem and others. Since RXB is actively developed, another solution might be for Rich to update RXB to initialize the VDP stack in a compatible way by default...

  40. Getting back to the original design... No fifth color on the face, but plenty of options for the shading. I've shown a few color variations, but not in gradient yet. So, here are a couple. [Note: these designs are still using the older tileset]

  41. One month after the first public beta release I am really pleased with the feedback received 😊 Some minor bugs but nothing that heavy and several suggestions to improve the quality of the game. Many people are asking for a distribution suitable for 5.25 disks and also working on hard disk... I promise to work on this but it will take time. At the moment I can only announce that the next 2.4 version will be ready by about mid-July and will contain minor corrections and some important additions, in example: - Removed references to D1: replacing them with a generic 😧 - Bonus life for every $200 up to a maximum of 7 lives 😎 - Decreased bouncing when landing at high speed - Fixed missing landing gears sound on Interference level Anyway, next Monday is my birthday and in this case I am not asking for presents but I would have a present for you... maybe someone will have already found out but there is a cheat mode to play Space Taxi starting from a specific level. It works both on emulators or real machines and you can get it simply pressing Control + TAB in the game selection menu. A different control will be enabled letting you select the starting level. Very useful to practice and enjoy with all 25 levels πŸ’ͺ Cheat.mov

  43. In reference to a non responsive defendant, but also from that 2020 time period The question was asked here basically "why bother?" and the notion that "no money can be recovered" Given Amur is nationwide (as the case above shows) and they have millions and millions of USD up in the air, I'll suggest that if nothing else, they need to show they intend to protect their company. In other words, not going after IE just because it is "chump change" by comparison is not an option for them. Oh, and people -do- countersue as well. Compare: Amur rating (note comment as recently as a few days ago and IE's Better Business Bureau "F" rating Not saying this counts for anything, but... #6

  49. Interesting regarding Bentley Bear; I'm not sure what will happen with that now... So I just watched the video of the stream on youtube. I've sent James a separate message, but I can say that both myself and Rose Mary were *very* moved by all of the love and support... Thanks, guys - you are all wonderful πŸ’– I told this to James too: I know I haven't been as active lately on AA as I've greatly slowed down on my projects. That with the removed of games from the store was the 1-2 punch that told me it was time. But I thank you guys - as I always say, you are the greatest! (I promised James that if I do end up doing something in the future, he will get first showing) Thank you, thank you, thank you Bob

  50. I'm happy to share with you the progress made on the battle screen, showcasing our first two heroes and the first Wyvern boss, design by Molly, animated by @Eternal-Krauser! No worries, I will not spoil the other 20 bosses, you'll have to see for yourself when the time arrives 😎 We have Molly Heady-Carroll joining our team for some pixel art and I couldn't be more happy with her input. She works in the game industry and this is her first time working on a homebrew project. Thank you for your attention! EDIT: Re-uploaded the animation, I screwed up some of the animation frames when creating the composition. The original animation is much smoother!
