If anyone was worried that things might be changing on the forums in the immediate future at AtariAge with the recent acquisition by Atari, reading through the large number of off-topic posts in this thread should be ample proof that this is not the case!10 points

I've come back to this project to improve these programs. I rewrote all of them so that the programs will automatically sense whether the drives are single or double density. In addition, all of the programs will automatically sense whether the Ultimate 1MB is installed and extra memory is available. If so, the programs will use it. The only requirement is that the source and destination drives must be the same density. The new versions of the programs are: SECTCOPY - The program will copy all sectors from the source drive to the destination. SECTVTOC - This program will copy only used sectors from the source to the destination.7 points

I tested a bunch of random homebrew games this afternoon on the 2600+. Here's what I tested: Spies in the Night (8K - F8) Medieval Mayhem (32K - F4) Dungeon II (4K) Incoming! (4K) Dungeon (32K - F4) Reindeer Rescue (16K - F6) Thrust+ Platinum (16K - F6) Go Fish (NTSC, 8K - F8) Toyshop Trouble (8K - F8) A Roach in Space (32K - F4) Bee-Ball (4K) Seaweed Assault (32K - F4SC) All worked perfectly except for Seaweed Assault, which did boot fine, but when you start a new game, the screen is full of tons of random seaweed, making the game impossible to play. I assume this is some sort of RAM-related issue, as that game uses the extra SARA RAM, so I will investigate. (Forgot to put Seaweed Assault in this bin before I took the photo). ..Al6 points

No Jaguar, non-dev, well you are completely wrong here. Ah, me too, I do not like Bubsy at all, so I do not even care if there will be/is a 3D version.6 points

Wow! Thought maybe you guys'd be discussing Good Ol Bubsy and I was ready to find out if you're like me and thought he oughta stay in 2D where he belongs... Now it's all Devs, none Devs, twats and owning people... Why'd I wander over here again? I don't even have a Jaguar! (Maybe I'll go back to pestering those who like the 2600+, I was having fun over there...I still think Analogue ought to release an FPGA 2600 and truly eat Atari's lunch! ...Sorry to be off topic...Don't mind me... I'm,,,just a nundev err something)6 points

Frantic will be demoed at PRGE, so I've resumed work on it. Just a minor update so far, the humanoid animation has been increased from 4 to 8 frames. Was trickier to do than I thought it would be. The Sound Tool from the prior update had to be removed due to ROM space needed for the additional humanoid graphics and color data. Console Switches: TV Type = B&W, score display shows time remaining for Vertical Blank and Overscan. Left Difficulty A = Max Robot Stress Test. Score will be red and player does not lose a life (so can play forever). Right Difficulty A = Frenzy Special Room Test. Every room will be a special room. Note: Difficulty switches are only checked when starting a new game. ROM frantic_20230917.bin6 points

You put the blame on the wrong people. When Atari fails (again), it is solely Atari's fault (again). Personally, I won't feel responsible for a second. This is less about pride but much more about logic. A listed company is obliged to act in the interests of its shareholders. Period. Everything else is just warm words. So why should I support the interests and profit of greedy shareholders with my labor of love? If Atari is interested into our work, they should hire and pay adequately.5 points

Here is the next contribution to cc7800 : sparse tiling integrated with vertical scrolling. The idea is that you can easily design some nice levels with Tiled (Usually 20 tiles large and max 256 in height), generate the code for the tiles with sprites7800, generate the sparse tiles data with tiles7800, and integrate it into your scrolling code. This yields a quite efficient way of making backgrounds, not too expensive (it's sparse tiling, so you can use 160A with holes and as many palettes as you want), and using only ROM (as this version uses the indirect mode of Maria). In my example, the 256 high shmup level consumes 4kb for the tiles graphics, and around 4kb for the sparse tiles data. You can imagine making a "super game" with 7 levels, each occupying a 16kb ROM bank (4kb for the sprites, 4kb for the sparse tiles (level definition), 4kb for the tiles graphics data (backdoung), and 4kb for the music, the specific code and the enemy spawning tables). The code for this example (examples/example_vertical_scrolling_sparse.c), using only 2 palettes (blue and grey) : #include "prosystem.h" #define VERTICAL_SCROLLING #include "multisprite.h" // Generated by sprites7800 shmup_tiles.png reversed scattered(16,32) char blue_objects1[512] = { 0x00, 0x50, 0x74, 0x25, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x00, 0x00, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x40, 0x00, 0x74, 0x29, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x15, 0x55, 0x54, 0xf8, 0x00, 0x00, 0xa5, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x15, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x55, 0x50, 0x00, 0x00, 0x15, 0x55, 0x55, .... 0x0e, 0x40, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x0f, 0x50, 0x0f, 0x50, 0x0f, 0x50, 0x0e, 0xc0, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x0a, 0x10, 0x09, 0x20, 0x09, 0x20, 0x0d, 0x40, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x09, 0x10, 0x0a, 0x10, 0x0a, 0x10, 0x0e, 0x20, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x0e, 0x10, 0x09, 0x10, 0x09, 0x20 }; // Generated by tiles7800 --sparse shmup_tiles.yaml shmup.tmx #include "example_shmup_tiles.c" void main() { char counter = 255; char done = 0; multisprite_init(); multisprite_set_charbase(blue_objects1); multisprite_vscroll_init_sparse_tiles(tilemap_data_ptrs); // Grey palette *P0C1 = 0x04; *P0C2 = 0x08; *P0C3 = 0x0c; // Blue palette *P1C1 = multisprite_color(0x84); // Dark blue *P1C2 = multisprite_color(0x88); // Light blue *P1C3 = multisprite_color(0xac); // Turquoise // Main loop do { // Prepare scrolling data if (multisprite_vscroll_buffer_empty()) { if (!done) { multisprite_vscroll_buffer_sparse_tiles(counter); if (counter) counter--; else done = 1; } else if (done == 1) { multisprite_vscroll_buffer_sparse_tiles(255); done = 2; } else done = 3; } while (*MSTAT & 0x80); multisprite_flip(); if (done != 3) multisprite_vertical_scrolling(1); } while(1); } You will find in attachment the latest versions of sprites7800 (with collision map generation, for the next demo), tiles7800 (with 256 high sparse tiling code generation), the shmup project, and the compiled 32kb ROM of the example. Next will be a demo for pixel perfect collision, and next next a vertical scrolling using RAM and immediate mode (instead of the ROM and Maria indirect mode here). And maybe next next next a "kinda" shmup game with everything together (vertical scrolling, a controllable spaceship, some bullets and a bad guy to get shot at). example_vertical_scrolling_sparse.mp4 sprites7800.exe tiles7800.exe shmup.tiled-project shmup_tiles.yaml shmup.tsx shmup.tmx example_vertical_scrolling_sparse_tiling.a785 points

OK dipshit - I've tried to be nice, but you are spastic. I've been supporting my family since before you were born via coding. Alot of haters and whining here but I'm still pro 2600+ For me I don't care if an SD will or won't work. I have sd carts for multiple systems but beside playing an unobtainable game when I first got them, I never use them. I would rather choose a cartridge out of my stack and play. For me that's where it's at the feel, the artwork, my games that is the nostalgia that's kept me owning a 2600 for 40 some odd years. I'll take that 2600+ It doesn't matter what kind of magic makes the cartridge slot work I think it's a lot cooler looking than a retron or flashback plus it's got new controllers, and will play most cartridges. I want to know since they didn't include warlords on the paddle gamepack .Are they going to release and upgrade of warlords?5 points

Why keep talking about Cindy Margolis, scan the dark web dude, that is a body double. She died of cancer, last year and the body double is because of insurance purposes. She also had a serious case of amnesia many years ago, anyone of you can forget about remembering Jack shit about the 80's. 🤪5 points

To be expected. When you switch over to microamps the internal resistance of the instrument is higher, as it's not sensitive enough to keep it down to the same level as when using the higher range. Hence it influences the circuit it's a part of more, and the current is reduced.4 points

I have a second Geneve 9640 wich booted MDOS 7.40 just fine. I was busy solving some SCART cable issue when all of a sudden I got the "BAD CPU RAM" error message. Following some tips from this topic didn't solve the problem: 1) Build the DramArduino to test the DRAMS: All okay 2) Swapped the 74LS245 bus driver: No change Then I found a problem with the 7805 voltage regulator (M76) close to the CPU DRAM chips. This one got very hot. The voltage regulator problem is also mentioned in this topic by the way! After a few minutes the output voltage of this regulator dropped to 3.1 Volt. After swithing the PEB off for a few minutes to let things cool down I could boot MDOS again. This can be easely fixed by replacing the voltage regulator(s).4 points

Considering this is primarily a UK-based platform, I'd be shocked if we didn't see ZX Spectrum and Amstrad stuff at some point (and maybe even BBC Micro). Although I'm peculiar in that I enjoy all platforms from all regions, no matter how primitive, I can also acknowledge that Spectrum content in particular is pretty rough for US experiences/sensibilities and is definitely one of the more nostalgia-driven experiences. Still, I think such a collection would do extremely well for them, and, regardless of how it might be received by North American buyers, an important step forward. They need to support as many platforms as possible and any content that is amenable to solely gamepad-like controls.4 points

I see casuals... TJ: While offline? <shakes my head no> TJ: While on AtariAge? <nods yes> TJ: Casuals like obviously totally lost and shouldn't be here? Interacting like hardcore Atari fans. They don't notice other casuals. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they are casuals. TJ: How often do you see them? All the time. They're everywhere.... And some of them totally know they are casuals... There have been casuals on AA for ages... And that's not a bad thing... IMHO4 points

In general I agree, preordered and looking really forward to it😊 For a CRT I have no space but I kept my maybe 200 cartridges and collected maybe another 40+ hombrews, so I got a Retrotink5x and was happy. Space for another console? Not really. New consoles have to replace old ones. The 2600 Jr is very reliable and spare systems or parts a cheap, so it is easy to keep it alive and it will stay hooked up. On the 7800 I had to do some soldering from time to time to keep it alive and prices for spare systems and parts increased over time. So here I look for something new, reliable and compatible and put a bet on the 2600+ with my preorder. I get tired from repair tasks and just want to insert cartridges (feels so much different from loading a rom file) and play! I also built arcade sticks to be compatible with the 7800 to play my games, so I am happy the 2600+ takes not only cartridges but real joysticks. Proline controllers and 7800 pads? I kept them to show people how they looked like and why I don't use them😉 Now I hope the 2nd button for the 7800 will work and the compatibilty with 7800 games including homebrews will be good😊 And last not least living in a PAL region, I finally want to play 7800 NTSC carts ( including homebrews!). We suffered enough😉4 points

The only thing the last several posts have managed to convince me of is, that I likely could have been a Dev instead of a lowly dirt-eating none-Dev.🤔 Failing that though, if I was not intelligent enough to become an almighty Dev surely, at the very least, I might have become a rocket Scientist or Nasa Engineer, perhaps not as prestigious as a god-like Game Dev but you know, baby steps........🤷♂️ P.S. - BUBSY SUCKS.4 points

I'm pretty sure it would be either C64 or Amiga, possibly a bit of both. They're the systems that Thalamus were most at home on. While I'd like to see the Spectrum come to Evercade at some point, this isn't it. A collection from Ocean, Hewson or Ultimate might hit the spot though.4 points

Yes indeed consider it,you've released nothing and not a programmer,so you would know more then me.How stupid do you think members are exactly? They're smarter then you can even Imagine.Members support devs that create games that they want, not you or anybody else will dictate to them what not to purchase, only in your own little world does that make sense.Ten members hate me guess what the other hundreds are doing?buying my games. They add me on facebook and the group grows more and more and they talk to me,I could careless about 10 members that hate. You've lost already as soon as I released a game, keep going though I don't mind.4 points
-
This can go either way, most are none programers and dictate to members what can and cannot be done,it can be done on Jag would it be worth it?depends on if your a fan of the game or not.A good rule of thumb is look what said member and if they released anything,if they haven't skip their post.4 points

My times for the week: Intellivision: AD&D: Cloudy Mountain - 126 min. B-17 Bomber - 10 min. Frog Bog - 13 min. Skiing - 12 min. Stampede - 3 min. Utopia - 25 min. Beat Cloudy Mountain on Hero difficulty for the third or fourth time. Still a fun game, if frustrating at times when an arrow passes right through a foe.
