  1. In terms of voting from the list. I will join the legions of fans here who would love to see a proper 2600 TRON. As for games to be converted, there is one I am suprised we never saw on the 2600, especially following Battlezone and that's Red Barron. I think that would have been easy to do in 2600 style and would have kicked ass. -Ray
  2. I agree with the above, 2 really terrifici games. But, in my heart I gotta go with Demon Attack on this one. Bigger Sprites, more frantic gameplay, and one of the best commercials for any video game of the 1980's. -Ray
  3. Interesting, That I did not know. I only have TempestX, so I always assumed it was a sequal. Good sugestion with Gyrus and I forgot all about Beamrider, which is unusual given what a big Activision Fanboly I am. -Ray
  4. I also recomend Tempest X3 on the PS1. It is the sequal to Tempest2k and adds some new effects and and tube variations. -Ray
  5. Well to be fair, it's a very unfinished initial work in progress (unlike the 5200 version which was much further along). But yeah it's interesting to wonder how they could make what they had any better. Anything's possible.... to a certain extent. Hey, maybe someday someone nuts enough will try and make a somewhat decent port/clone. But yeah most everyone here has tried out the prototype for a good number of years now so the post did sound pretty noobish, at least for this part of the internet woods But hey, it's all good Well yeah, because I'm a noob. But, at least you were polite about it. -Ray

    Mario Bros

It goes without saying that no home system can touch the NEs for any mario Games. However, I think given its limitations both mario Bros and Donkey Kong are pretty impressive ports for the 2600. DKJr, not so much. -Ray
  7. Yeah. I dunno that "playable" is exactly the word for it. "Interactive" perhaps. Not playable, though. LOL, well it's actually more playable than some RELEASED Atari games. -Ray
  8. I like the way you think. Comics to go with Donkey kong, DK Jr, and Mario Brothers. It would have been an interesting estableshment of history prior to the debuts of these characters on the NES. -Ray
  9. Pardon, Being new here I missed out on the pre-orders and such. Are all these claimed? Is it to late to get the special edition? If so that is cool, but when will the regular edition be availble. I was a HUGE C64 player and I am very much looking forward to playing your 2600 version. -Ray
  10. Say WHAT? Battlezone is a lot of things, but "fast" isn't one of them. Why are you talking as if we haven't all played the 2600 Tempest prototype ourselves? ZB give the guy a break. We aren't all as gifted as you to be anal retentive and so some of us do have a different perspective on life, usually one far more interesting I did say fast, but I meant it is as intense as Tempest. A great vector Arcade game all around. Zylonbane, Are you one of those sci-fi geeks that grew up in the late 70's and early 80's watching Doctor who, playing with your Apple II, and making sure all the people in your circle of con-geeks knew how intelligent and knowlegable you were? Because, that's what I'm thinking. I also did not know that the Tempest Prototype was available in a playble format. Having found and played it...you guys are right, it blows. It is a good thing they never attempted to produce this. It is a shame they never optioned the rights to the Vectrex for it. -Ray
  11. Hi guys, One of the things that got me really interested in Homebrew was reading an article in one of the game magazines where a bunch of college design students made Atari 2600 games using game maker. I picked up a copy of game maker and it will allow me to finally homebrew as I am not the most code-literate person in the world. However, I was hoping one of you could tell me how to convert a gamemaker created game into an atari Rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. -Ray
  12. I was playing Challenge of Nexar and it reminded me of the same frantic game play of Tempest. Now, I consider Tempest to be Atari's finest arcade game. None, but possibly BattleZone, can seem to offer the fast and intense gameplay of Tempest. I know that Tempest was planned but never completed or released for the 2600. Do you guys think the 2600 version of Tempest weould have been Great or would have really sucked bad? It is one thing to take Asteroids and make the Raster version for it on the 2600. In fact it prooved to be a great translation and in my opinion the 2600 version improved the game ina few areas. But, not all Vector games are equal and though many made a more solid translation to the 2600 and even turned out pretty well (see the above mentioned Battlezone), some just would never have been very easily converted. Tempest, in my opinion, would have been extremely hard to see with one blob spilling over a larger blob...etc... It also would not nearly have been able to move fast enough to play in the same frantic styke that the arcade machine played. What do you veteran Atari maniacs think? -Ray
  13. Of course, comic books in more Atari games would have been great. PS don't forget that " The power of He Man game from Mattel also comes with a comic book. Cool, I never knew that the He-Man game got a comic as well. Though it looks like they simply packed the same comics that they packed with thetoys. Still, the idea of a fully promoting the line was there and Matell was always good for that sort of cross promotional stuff. -Ray
  14. I agree and I was always impressed that it does a really decent job of more or less following the movie's plot, though condenced. I am glad to see this thread as i have been re-playing this recently and I was having all sorts of trouble with this particular section. -Ray

    Mario Bros

Ah, Mario Bros. One of the most playable games on the 2600 and a pretty decent adaptation. Although mario and Luigi are a bit large. It always amazed me that they locked the gameplay down on this so well. It was a pretty complex game for its time and he idea of a 2 player co-op mode was probably a nightmare on the 2600's memory. I still credit people's fond memories of this game for why Super Mario Brothers would do so well some years later. -Ray
  16. Great observations. I never even thought of Haunted House or Adventure, but they REALLY could have used some backstory to flesh them out. I mean these days kids have full CGI intros in games , we had to rely on our imaginations. -Ray
  17. Hi, I'm still new here, but once I went through this site a thought occured to me. The comics that DC did for some of the Atari release games were actually pretty interesting for giving unique background for the games. Yar's Revenge especially makes much more sense with the included comic. Do you think other VCS games would have benefited from comics. i don't mean the Atari Force comics, I mean game related ones like Centipede and yars. I can already thin k of one right off the top of my head for Asteroids. -Ray
