Flashback 9 Gold paddle issue
Forrest replied to atari-kev's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Bill Loguidice mentioned in http://atariage.com/forums/topic/284357-atari-flashback-9-firmware-for-adding-games-to-sd-card/page-7 the wireless paddle controllers bundled with Flashback Blast Pong is NOT compatible with the FB9 Gold -
David, The chroma line was not connected to the monitor port on the 1200XL. How are you connecting the computer to the monitor?

52K Atari 800 - did anyone else do this ?

That's interesting. What is the address range for the extra 4K? -
I've just got a Specter GCR :)

As others have said, you'll need a set of System 6.0.x system disks made on a real Macintosh. In the early 90's, I remember buying a set from an Apple dealer for $50! You should be able to get a set for less. You may try buying a set of disks from a local Apple User Group. The Spectre GCR emulates a Mac Plus, and a good source of info is https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/mini_vmac_setup This link describes setting up the Mac Plus/II emulator Mini vMac under Windows. You should also get Stuffit Expander 4.0.1 on a Mac disk, so you'll have a method of expanding Mac programs with Spectre GCR. Hopefully SatanDisk users can chime in if this works with Spectre GCR On the author's Mini vMac website, he has a list of Disk Conversion services at https://www.gryphel.com/c/convert/index.html I see there's one in NC -
The Atari brand memory modules were either 8K or 16K, and were always in cases AFAIK. Memory modules from other companies such as Axlon, Mosaic, etc were never sold in cases.

My suggestion is to use a new 5V power supply for the Raspberry Pi, and just make an adapter cable from the micro-usb cconnector to the 7 pin DIN plug. These power supplies are made by many companies, including https://www.shopqvs.com/store/c/495-Raspberry-Micro-USB.aspx and these are CE certified and labeled. Microcenter sells these power supplies

Mega ST 4 Received today, pictures of inside

From what I remember, that appears to be a Viking Moniterm graphics board - meant to drive a Viking 19 inch B&W monitor at 1280 x 960 resolution. The monitor connects thru the 9 pin adapter and the power supply in the monitor helps power the board. The missing chip in the center of the board is concerning. Unless you received the Viking monitor with the computer, I recommend removing the Viking board from the computer. -
Bane_Masters, Considering your Flashback is not usable in it's current form, you may try returning it where you bought it. If it's past the return period, you may try resetting your Flashback. There is a Flashback 9 Gold HD teardown video posted at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9v0s3REUVs At the 32 minute mark, the video shows there is a reset button on the board. Just a guess, but I would eject the SD card and press the power button to see if this restores the original firmware.

Atari 800 - 96KB and 3Bit Full-View 80 Card
Forrest replied to fiscap's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
fiscap, That's a very nice system. The original purchaser probably spent about a total of $700 for the two Mosiac RAM cards and the 3Bit 80 column card.- 31 replies

Flashback 9 Gold paddle issue
Forrest replied to atari-kev's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Thinking about trying this 10K Bourns potentiometer because it's only $2.75 - but can't find a spec sheet on it https://www.allelectronics.com/item/ptw-10k/10k-bourns-pot-pre-wired/1.html Here's a 33 mm knob for $.50 from the same place that should fit https://www.allelectronics.com/item/knb-239/33mm-knob-for-flatted-1/4-shaft/1.html -
Check to see if your controller shows up in Preferences-Controllers. I was successful with a Logitech F310 Gamepad (set to D) and a Gravis Gamepad Pro. I didn't have any luck with a Legacy Engineer Atari USB joystick.

I got the FB9 Gold for Christmas - love it. I'm not a hard core Atari 2600 player, and was aware of the paddle limitation beforehand. The inclusion of the SD slot, and new info from boggis the cat stating old Atari paddles can be used on the FB9 by swapping the original 1Mohm pots for 10K makes the system a winner in my opinion. I do own a FB2, but don't use it much because the composite video output doesn't look great on a HD TV.

Flashback 9 Gold paddle issue
Forrest replied to atari-kev's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I watched a Flashback 9 Gold teardown video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9v0s3REUVs Near the end of the video, the reviewer states the Atari paddles sort of work, but are too sensitive. Atari paddles have 1 Mohm pots. Could the fix be as simple as switching to a 100K pot? -
Thanks for updating Atari800MacX - will try it out.

Dan, I saw the two JACS newsletters on archive.org. Did you scan more? I've kept my JACS newsletters - I'm fairly certain I have them all. I may scan them in the near future - that would be quite a lengthy task. JACS was active for over a decade. Forrest

Hey Dan, it's great to hear from a former JACS member! It's been a long time since I've seen you - you might remember me I haven't see Bob Whipple in a long time. It's funny mentioning Bob's Beatles collection - I remember Bob showing me part of his collection once. PM if you want to discuss further. I still stay in touch with Mike Hopkins - you might remember him from JACS. Forrest

I bought one when they were just released - I think I paid $125 for it. It had two motors - one for the left wheel and one for the right, a bump sensor and a red LED for each eye. It was powered by a few batteries, and you connected it to your Atari thru the joystick port. You could drive it around with a joystick. It's not a smart robot - your computer was needed to move it. I got tired of it pretty quick. If you want to have fun with a robot, I recommend the Woowee MiP robot. I just got two for Christmas. It's a balancing robot that has about 8 built in programs, ultrasonic sensor and and you can also drive it around wirelesslessly (Bluetooth) with your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. I think it's amazing the MiP can balance so well - even works well on a carpet. The MiP typically sells for $90.
