The Atari 8-bit computers were not well documented when they were released in 1979, but by 1982 they were. For reference, see Atari's Operating System User's Manual, Source Listing and Hardware Manual, DeReAtari and books from independent publishers (Compute!'s Mapping the Atari book and Compute! magazine) and Lon Poole's Your Atari Computer. Many of the best Atari 8-bit games were released by 1982/1983.

Why weren't the in-game sounds/music used in the video? This is a big part of the gaming experience.

Todd, I looked at your pictures and I don't like your soldering of the red wire to the Uno. It looks like the exposed red wire could short to the blue wire. Since you said the red wire is not connected to the SIO cable, I would unsolder the red wire and cut it to prevent a 5V to Ground short.

Altirra 3.20 (32 bit) is not working as well under OSX 10.13.6/Wine Stable 4.01 as Altirra 3.10 (32 bit). FruityPete 1.1 started fine (NTSC, 130XE, Atari ROMS), but stopped working on level 2. See attached picture. The emulator didn't crash, but the game was unplayable after the video was corrupted.

It's been my experience that solder pumps work better when the pump is held with the tip facing the sky and the board is held above the tip. Gravity helps draw the solder into the pump. Also, keep replace the filter in the solder pump often for maximum suction.

Mr Robot, Looks wonderful - thanks.

Mytek, Just confirming - you switched the pull down resistor from 10K to 1K?

My point was the Propeller solution was simpler to build (all thru-hole components), likely much less expensive and released 7 years ago. I have all the parts to build the SID Audio player. I'll work on building it and create a new topic to discuss. The SIDbox looks like a fine machine. Sorry for the topic diversion.

Johannes Ahlebrand wrote the Propeller object SIDcog that plays SID tunes using 1 cog. Johannes Ahlebrand also wrote AYcog, which plays songs generated from the AY-3-8910/YM-2149F using 1 cog - see http://obex.parallax.com/object/153 The Propeller can run 8 cogs simultaneously. So the SIDstick/SID Audio player hardware is capable of playing Atari ST and Falcon songs, in addition to SID songs. The player program just needs to be updated.

Interesting, but there's the Propeller based SIDstick that was released about 7 years ago that can be built for $20 in parts https://www.instructables.com/id/Pocket-Chiptunes-Player/ The Pocket SID audio player is a similar version https://www.instructables.com/id/Build-your-own-Pocket-SID-Audio-Player/ based on the $35 Propeller QuickStart board

PlayStation 1 (PSX) Controller Schematic - Help Needed
Forrest replied to HeadcolorsTV's topic in Hardware
The schematic shown in your link is not complete - it only shows 2 of the 5 74HC165 shifters needed. It looks quite complicated to interface Sony Playstation controllers. If you want to use Playstation controllers for Playstation emulation, this can be done thru RetroPie using the GPIO module https://retropie.org.uk/docs/GPIO-Modules/- 28 replies

Improved Atari TOS versions available

Russ, Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to your results when you use NeoDesk with the improved TOS 1.04 -
Improved Atari TOS versions available
Forrest replied to ParanoidLittleMan's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
How does your upgraded TOS 1.04/2.06 work with NeoDesk 2/3 on a MegaST4 with an ICD Adspeed 16 MHz 68000 installed? Does NeoDesk do most of the work when using the desktop or is it relying on TOS? I see NeoDesk 4 was released for free by Gribnif last year at http://www4.pair.com/gribnif/downloads/neodesk/ -
The phono plug end of your cables should be wired as shown in the link.

Mouse Accelerator on ST with TOS 1.04
Forrest replied to chad5200's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
The upload.txt file included with Xcontrol 1.31 states: maccel.cpx -mouse accelerator (use with 'Maccel.prg') So Boris was correct. -
Cracking open an A8 Demon Attack cart
Forrest replied to hoserama99's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I would not use sandpaper or brasso. The gold plating is very thin and either of these will remove the gold, leaving the nickel to tarnish. Are the chips on the game cart in sockets or soldered to the board? If in sockets, I would remove the chips and clean the sockets AND dry with canned air. -
Retrofan, Have you wired the composite video cable and audio cable according to link ? The video cable and audio cable both require a ground connection.

Cracking open an A8 Demon Attack cart

Soapy water made with Joy dishwashing detergent and an old toothbrush should clean all of those parts. After using alcohol on the gold fingers, try a pink eraser. -
I would measure the voltage on your universal power supply with a multimeter. I've seen some overshoot 25% - which is not acceptable. The output voltage should measure no more than 10% over the rating.

From the reviews I've read, some Arduino Uno's with the surface mount Atmega328 processor will only accept 7-9 VDC on the power jack.

Atari users in Europe have another source to buy a pre-built WiFi Modem at https://www.simulant.uk/shop/retro-vintage-computer-wifi-modem-rs232-serial-hayes-compatible I purchased the ESP8266-01, but have not mated a RS232 voltage adapter/USB adapter yet. It seems Paul Rickards WiFi Modem is still not in stock.

Let us know how the GBS 8200 works out. I'm thinking of buying one for my MegaST4.
