I'd be up for either a magazine or a CD-ROM, but for the "collecting" streak in me, a magazine would seem more appropriate (although "feel" less permanent, hmm.....). As for content (and this is purely from a selfish viewpoint) I would prefer it to concentrate on Jaguar and Lynx titles purely because I have very little knowledge of the older systems & games, but as a newcomer to the Jaguar & Lynx scenes, I would certainly get some value from an in-depth look at post-Atari releases. I would also hope (although this is perhaps wishful thinking) that it could be regarded as a "Part 1". I would hope that there would be enough new titles released after the magazine was printed that a "Part 2" could be done in the future. I am attemtping to learn to program purely to create a game for the Lynx so I'd like to think there were others out there still creating away on some things as yet unannounced. My thanks again Nimtene.

I had a look through the various sites and can see them coming in very handy. However I was unable to locate a working link for the BLL software devlopment kit as the link on 42bastian's page was broken, as were several others on that site. Can anyone provide a working link? Thanks.

Just to say, mouse support is also included in Outtrigger and Soldier of Fortune for definite.

Nimtene, thank you very much for the support and links. Carl was also helpful in pointing me in the right direction. It will take some research on my part, but I intend to make a start on this and get something done on the Lynx. Watch this space.....

Thanks for the info. Atari games developed on Amigas eh? So for someone who has no Amiga nor any official development kits, what are the prospects of being able to a) program something that would run on a Lynx and b) get something released if it was up to scratch? I'm sure it's a question that has been asked on several occasions on these boards, but for somebody interested in programming for the Lynx, what equipmment & programs are needed in order to do make a start? Would I require a development kit? If not, would I still have the potential for creating something that was professional & "releasable"? Again, thanks to anyone who replies.

You guys haven't been spoiled by the control options of today's shooters I see The lack of circle strafing doesn't mean the game can't be enjoyable and doesn't mean it can't be completed, of course not. But it does limit your options tactically ( I guarantee that) and makes link up games less exctiting. If any of you have modern FPS, the Quakes, Unreal, anything like that, fire it up and you'll see what a difference it makes. But hey, it's absent and I'm glad that everyone seems to have got so much enjoyment out of it. That's what games are for and that'll do for me.

I recently picked up Jaguar Doom in order to compare it to the other versions I have. However I am slightly concerned that there doesn't appear to be a control configuration that allows me to both strafe & turn at the same time, something that is necessary (in my opinion) in order to play the game properly (and in multiplayer too). The standard Jaguar pad has enough buttons to allow you to do it, and I can think of a hand position which I could use, but unless I have missed something, you can only choose between 1 of 6 preset control configurations, none of which allow you to perform both moves at the same time. Is this the same for everyone else or have I just missed something?

Thanks for the info Gunstar. Don't get me wrong, I am impressed by the Jaguar port and I still enjoy it, but having got so used to circle strafing in other titles, it grates slightly that I can't do it on Jag Doom. The simple ability to customise your own control scheme would have rectified the problem, but it seems it was not to be. I'm glad to hear that other titles do support such movement and I look forward to acquiring them when I have the necessary funds. On a related note, what are people's experiences with Jaglink Doom?

I could have sworn I called it that too Adrian: quote I hope that someone out there knows a way to do this. Are there any First Person Shooters on the Jag that allow you to move in such a manner? [ 02-19-2002: Message edited by: Brig ]

So am I out of luck, is it impossible on the Jaguar version or does anyone know of a way?
-
Strafing and turning at the same time is an integral part of modern shooters. I am sure you've heard the term "circle strafing" whereby you can navigate around an enemy in a circular motion continually shooting at them. Well circle strafing requires that you can turn and strafe at the same time. Every other version of Doom I have played allows this (Playstation, Game Boy Advance and of course PC).

Again, thanks to everyone who has taken the time to post. The Lynx is getting ordered today. Just a couple of follow up questions: liveinabin, when you say buy from EB or Game, I take it that means physically having to visit one of their stores as opposed to buying through their website? I have a couple of branches of both chains near me but haven't seen any Lynx titles. Are we talking new or "preowned"?. I suppose the reason I have bought from Telegames is that it's secure, has a decent selection, and when new games are only a tenner that can't be bad surely? And Songbird, I may e-mail you myself about this, but where would be the best place to start if I wanted to program for the handheld? What would be needed in order to do that? And in the same vein, if anyone can point me in the direction of any amateur Lynx (or Jaguar) coding sites that would be great, just to see what the communtiy is like. Thanks guys,it's very encouraging to see such a friendly forum community on the net these days, almost brings a tear to me eye

Thanks for the info. Anymore is greatly appreciated so keep it coming folks. Also, what are people's thoughts on Telegames UK? I have ordered a couple of Atari items from them and haven't had any problems and the prices of new hardware and software seems to be reasonable. What are your experiences with them?
