Nov. 12, 2022: THE RETURN! Attractions: Coin-op arcade games Multiple home consoles, vintage computers, games, and oddities Snacks and beverages Game trading and raffle VG movies on a 144" screen So, uh... it's been a while, hasn't it? SC3 had completed its 20th anniversary party and was looking forward to starting our third decade, but then everything changed. It took a global pandemic to make us do it, but we had to close things down for the last couple years. Finally, the world seems to be emerging from its long time of lockdown, and it's time for SC3 to turn the power back on. Those arcade cabinets have been dormant long enough! We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited return to the Backyard will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in Claremont. The party will start at 4 p.m. and continue until midnight. We will be getting back up to speed after our forced closure, but expect the usual highlights – arcade games, console games, trading, and pizza. If you have COVID concerns, please keep in mind that even though most of the event is outside, it typically gets pretty crowded, and the arcade games will be partly enclosed. If you plan to attend, please fill out the RSVP Form and let us know how many guests you're bringing. We really aren't sure how big of a crowd to expect after two years, so your early RSVP is appreciated, as is your $10 (suggested) donation. Thanks for your patience everyone. At long last, it's time to bring back the fun! — The SC3 Team Our Previous (Pre-COVID) Event We didn't make a big deal about it, but the November 9, 2019 SC3 event marked our 20th anniversary. In November 1999, a post on the Usenet group rec.games.video.classic (can you remember those days?) led to the formation of the Southern California Classic Collectors. That early meeting was just a few collectors getting together to swap Atari cartridges and check out the hot new Dreamcast machine. That humble beginning somehow launched dozens of arcade parties, the eating of probably a thousand pizzas, and a retrogaming celebration that's been bringing SoCal gamers together for the better part of two decades. It all happened again on Nov. 9, 2019, and this time we had chocolate marshmallows. Read all about it in our latest event recap. The date of the next SC3 event is yet to be announced. Please keep an eye on this site and our Facebook page for announcements from SC3 as begin our third decade. Until then, keep gaming! —The SC3 Team Who Is SC3, Exactly? If you aren't familiar with SC3, we're just a friendly group of videogame enthusiasts who like nothing better than to get together to talk, trade, and play games. We've got a soft spot for games from the "classic" days of the early 1980s, but we love games of all eras, from Pong to PlayStation 4. If you love videogames, you're welcome to attend! SC3 has made a point of keeping our meetings relaxed and informal, but the atmosphere will include some beer drinking and there may be some R-rated game content. This is an adult get-together where supervised minors will be accepted. Parents should take this into account and please let us know if you have questions. to RSVP, go to our website and fill out a form... http://www.sc3videogames.com/future.php

It is a fall tradition to head back home, reconnect with family and old friends over some good food, and just generally take the time to be grateful for all the things you enjoy. Thanksgiving? Sure, that's nice. But we're talking about that other autumn celebration: the SC3 backyard party! Once again, Thanksgiving is coming to Southern California a couple of weeks early. SC3 will be serving up a vertiable classic videogaming feast on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Come join us as we cram too many arcade machines and classic home consoles into the back yard of one lucky home in Claremont, CA. If you attended one of the old parties, you know that like any good Thanksgiving meal, it'll be overstuffed but extremely satisfying. Limited Trade Area – Please Read The good old backyard is a smaller venue. There's just not enough room to accommodate 200 people, dozens of arcades and the huge mountains of trade goods that have been showing up at our last few events. And renovations to the yard have REDUCED the amount of available trade space this year. More announcements may be made later, but at this time we cannot guarantee ANY available trade table space. Please plan on bringing only trade goods that can fit in a backpack that you carry, or feel comfortable leaving in your vehicle. Please do not bring your own tables. If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Also note that this event starts at 4 p.m. No one, except authorized event planners, will be allowed in before 4 p.m. Your donations keep SC3 functioning, and our costs are expected to rise for this event. Our suggested donation at this event is $10 per adult attendee. Thanks as always for your support and remember to keep an eye here and on our Future Meeting Page for more announcements about the event! After filling it out, it will pop up some notices for you to read and allow you to request table space. We'll take your request down and do our best to reserve part of a table for you – but be aware that there is limited space and a lot of people wanting it! SC3 is returning to Anaheim on Saturday, April 22, at 2084 Arcade, a private facility jam-packed with '80s arcade classics in Anaheim. The hours are 4 p.m. to midnight. If you attended any of our previous 2084 events, you know what to expect. The owners of 2084 are four Southern California coin-op collectors who combined their collections under one roof to recreate the games list of an early 80's arcade. Now they have nearly 100 classic machines, including a few pinballs, at a facility in Anaheim. 2084 has been hosting arcade get-togethers every few weeks for quite some time now, and on April 22, SC3 will be there with our complement of home consoles, game trading and other goodies. 2084's a big enough place, but it's firmly packed with coin-ops. There's some space for home consoles but we have to go a little lighter than at other venues. Food will not be provided at this event, but there's a huge restaurant complex within walking distance. Trading is essential to the spirit of SC3 so we'll have plenty of space for it. The owners of 2084 are friends of ours and they're always improving the facility. We can't wait! Event Schedule The April 22nd party opens at 4 p.m. and lasts until 12 midnight. Home consoles will be stationed on the second floor of 2084 (just head up the stairs near the entryway) and the game trading area will be found in the parking lot directly outside. Please note that food will not be provided at this event. There are many restaurants in the area, including many selections in the popular Packing District within walking distance. Attention, Traders! Arcade 2084 has more room for trading than our backyard events in Claremont. So unlike the backyard, traders at 2084 do not have to reserve tables in advance. Still, space is not unlimited and lots of traders will want to use the tables. We suggest a limit of one table per trader/carload. Please share the tables and don't monopolize several of them for yourself. If you need extra space you may bring your own table(s), but be aware if the lot fills up you may not be able to use them. Sun canopies are always welcome if you can bring one. All traders are encouraged to read our Tips for Traders. Entrance Fee Arcade 2084 requests a $10 fee for anyone who uses the arcade, to cover electric bills and maintenance costs. Thank you for your understanding. RSVP Today! If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! Remember, it's important that you RSVP ahead of time – this location can accommodate a big crowd, but we still need an accurate headcount. Please keep an eye on this site and SC3's Facebook page for more announcements. We hope to see you April 22! Recap of SC3's Last Meeting It's hard to believe that it has been ten years since the first SC3 backyard arcade party. It's obvious that in the decade since that original gathering, SC3 has become something more than just a handful of game collectors getting together to swap carts. It's an event now, something that lots of people look forward to for months on end. It's an excuse to meet with friends who love gaming as much as you do. That spirit really came through at the last gathering! This was one of the best events we've had in a long time, and we greatly thank everybody who pitched in to help! Read all about it in our Nov. 12 event recap. http://www.sc3videogames.com/rsvp.php

Ten years ago, SC3 hosted its first "backyard" arcade party in Claremont. It was a simpler time. With only about 20 arcade cabs and maybe 40 attendees, the backyard had room to spare. What a difference a decade makes! After ten years of growth, SC3 is bigger than ever; that yard can hardly contain us anymore. But we're still giving it a go. We love the other venues that have hosted us and we'll continue to use them, but in many ways that backyard has been "home" to us over this last decade. Besides, with Thanksgiving around the corner, what better time is there to come home? So once again, Thanksgiving is coming to Southern California a couple of weeks early. SC3 will be serving up a cornucopia of classic videogaming vittles on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Once again we'll be cramming several dozen arcade machines and classic home consoles into the back yard of one lucky home in Claremont. If you attended one of the old parties, you know that like any good Thanksgiving meal, it'll be overstuffed but extremely satisfying. It's time for the first SC3 event of 2016! Our next Arcade Party will take place on Saturday, April 30, at 2084 Arcade, a private facility jam-packed with '80s arcade classics in Anaheim. The hours are 4 p.m. to midnight. If you attended last year's event at 2084, you know what to expect. The owners of 2084 are four Southern California coin-op collectors who combined their collections under one roof to recreate the games list of an early 80's arcade. Now they have nearly 100 classic machines, including a few pinballs, at a facility in Anaheim. 2084 has been hosting arcade get-togethers every few weeks for quite some time now, but on April 30 SC3 will be there with our complement of home consoles, game trading and other goodies. This is SC3's second event at 2084 so we have a better lay of the land this time. 2084's a big enough place, but it's firmly packed with coin-ops. There's some space for home consoles but we have to go a little lighter than normal. Food will not be provided at this event, but there's a huge restaurant complex within walking distance. Trading is essential to the spirit of SC3 so we'll have plenty of space for it. All in all, this will be a typical SC3 event but with a heavier focus on arcade gaming than usual. The owners of 2084 are friends of ours and they're always improving the facility. We can't wait! The April 30th party opens at 4 p.m. and lasts until 12 midnight. Home consoles will be stationed on the second floor of 2084 (just head up the stairs near the entryway) and the game trading area will be found in the parking lot directly outside. Bringing trade items? Please read our Tips for Traders. Please note that food will not be provided at this event. There are many restaurants in the area, including many selections in the popular Packing District within walking distance. Donations Are Appreciated! With so many machines, electric bills are expected to be quite high. Your donations fund all SC3 events and are greatly appreciated. If all adult attendees chip in just $5, that should cover our expenses. Thank you! RSVP Today! If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! Remember, it's important that you RSVP ahead of time – this location can accommodate a big crowd, but we still need an accurate headcount. Next SC3 Meeting: November 7, 2015 MANY Coin-ops on free play Multiple home consoles, games, and oddities Snacks, cold drinks and pizza will be served SC3-TV and other classic gaming video clips Game trading! BRING YOUR TRADEBAIT! The next meeting of the Southern California Classic Collectors is scheduled for November 7, 2015. The party will last from 4:00 p.m. until midnight at Steve's place in Claremont – the famous "back yard" location we've been to many times before. We hope to see you there! As with all SC3 events, the November 7 party will feature dozens of classic coin-ops on free play, tons of home gaming consoles with a huge complement of games, videos, and '80s music. Other attractions may be announced as the event draws near; watch this space and SC3's Facebook page for details! Food Schedule SC3's food of choice – pizza – will be served at this event. We will be making pizza runs at scheduled times ONLY. (The food schedule will be sent to those who RSVP.) We'll also have some snacks, cold sodas and water on hand. Typically the liquid refreshments last the night but the snacks tend to be eaten quickly, so be sure to grab something as soon as you're hungry! Donations Are Appreciated! We do our best to hold down costs, but please remember that our pizza and electric bills are still substantial! We greatly appreciate your donations – in fact, we need them in order to keep SC3 humming. We humbly request a donation of at least $5 per adult attendee, and we thank you in advance. RSVP Today! If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! Remember, it's essential that you RSVP ahead of time – space is limited at this location and we need an accurate headcount! http://www.sc3videogames.com/rsvp.php Thanks as always for your support! – The SC3 Team Highlights from the Last SC3 Meeting May 9, 2015 marked the first, but not the last, SC3 event held at 2084 Arcade in Anaheim. 2084 hosts smaller gatherings on a regular basis, but May 9 was the first time SC3 showed up with our bevy of home console games and videogame trade tables. The result was the largest and most attended 2084 gathering yet! About 200 gamers made the trek to Anaheim to partake of 2084's nearly 100 classic coin-ops (and three pinball tables), videogame trading, multicart-fueled home console gaming, and the ever-popular GameGavel raffle. We even had a fireworks show... well, sort of. This was a great, low-stress event where we got to welcome a lot of new faces, most of whom seemed genuinely excited and thankful that there's a group still keeping the '80s gaming vibe alive. It reminds us why we keep doing this. Read all about it in our May 9, 2015 Event Recap. Who Is SC3, Exactly? If you aren't familiar with SC3, we're just a friendly group of videogame enthusiasts who like nothing better than to get together to talk, trade, and play games. It's time for the first SC3 event of 2015, in a brand new location! Our next Arcade Party will take place on Saturday, May 9, at 2084 Arcade, a private facility jam-packed with '80s arcade classics in Anaheim. The hours are 4 p.m. to midnight. If you attended our Santa Ana events at The Last Arcade on the Planet, you'll have an idea what to expect. The owners of 2084 are four Southern California coin-op collectors who combined their collections under one roof to recreate the games list of an early 80's arcade. Now they have nearly 100 classic machines, including a few pinballs, at a facility in Anaheim. 2084 has been hosting arcade get-togethers every few weeks for a while now, but May 9 will mark the first time SC3 will be there with our complement of home consoles, game trading and other goodies. This is SC3's first event at 2084 so this will be a learning experience for us. 2084's a big enough place, but it's firmly packed with coin-ops. There's some space for home consoles but we might have to go a little lighter than normal. Food will not be provided at this event. Trading is essential to the spirit of SC3 so we'll find space for it, somewhere. We'll find room for the traditional GameGavel.com raffle too. All in all, this should be like a typical SC3 event but with a heavier focus on arcade gaming than usual. The owners of 2084 Arcade are friends of ours who have provided invaluable help to SC3 in the past. The SC3 organizers have attended 2084 events too and have always had a blast. The chance to throw a party together is just too good to pass up, and we can't wait! 2084 Arcade Event Schedule The May 9th party opens at 4 p.m. and lasts until 12 midnight. Home consoles will be stationed on the second floor of 2084 (just head up the stairs near the entryway) and the game trading area will likely be found somewhere outside (we're still deciding on the best place for it). Bringing trade items? Please read our Tips for Traders. Please note that food will not be provided at this event. There are restaurants in the area. Donations Are Appreciated! Other attractions will be announced as the event draws near; watch this space and SC3's Facebook page for details! Food Schedule SC3's food of choice – pizza – will be served at this event. It's time for the first SC3 event of 2014! Our next Arcade Party will take place on Saturday, April 26, at The Last Arcade on the Planet, a private facility jam-packed with '80s arcade classics in Santa Ana. If you attended our June event last year, you already know The Last Arcade. The owner, Juan, has hosted numerous parties and events there in addition to SC3's. It's a perfect fit for us. The Last Arcade features over 50 classic cabinets (and 5 pinball machines) representing the best titles from the Golden Age of Arcades. SC3 is bringing our usual complement of classic home console games and maybe a cabinet or two of our own. It'll be another great evening of games, games and more games! SC3 at Juan's 'Last Arcade on the Planet' is located at 1400 E St Andrew Pl. suite E. Santa Ana, CA Event Schedule The April 26th party opens at 6 p.m. and lasts until 12 midnight. GameGavel.com will be on hand, conducting their usual raffle jam-packed with retro gaming goodies. Home consoles and the game trading area will be stationed outside. Bringing trade items? Please read our Tips for Traders. Food Schedule Drinks will be available at this event, but entrees will not be provided. We are attempting to line up on-site food vendors, but have no commitments as of yet. We'll post updates as soon as we know more. There are also a number of restaurants (both fast food and fast casual) in the area. Donations Are Appreciated! With over 50 machines, electric bills are expected to be quite high. Your donations fund all SC3 events and are greatly appreciated. If all adult attendees chip in just $5, that should cover our expenses. Thank you! RSVP Today! If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! Remember, it's essential that you RSVP ahead of time – this location can accommodate a big crowd, but we still need an accurate headcount! http://www.sc3videogames.com/rsvp.php Recap of SC3's Last Meeting Amazingly, the November 9, 2013 SC3 arcade party marked the tenth occurrence of our now-legendary "back yard" parties in Claremont, CA. Factoring in our events at other venues, we've actually been in the double-digits for some time now. Hard to believe. But luckily the crowd keeps showing up, as over 160 attendees braved holiday-weekend SoCal traffic to play dozens of classic-coin ops, home consoles, computers and electronic handheld games. There were even a couple pinball machines this time around. Read all about it in our Nov. 9, 2013 Event Recap. http://www.sc3videogames.com/highlights/2013_11_09.php Who Is SC3, Exactly?

The next meeting of the Southern California Classic Collectors is scheduled for November 9, 2013. The party will last from 4:00 p.m. until midnight at Steve's place in Claremont – the famous "back yard" location we've been to many times before. We hope to see you there! As with all SC3 events, the November 9 party will feature dozens of classic coin-ops on free play, tons of home gaming consoles with a huge complement of games, videos, and '80s music. Video game auction site GameGavel.com will once again be on hand, conducting another raffle of gaming merchandise. Other attractions will be announced as the event draws near! Food Schedule SC3's food of choice – pizza – will be served at this event. We will be making pizza runs at scheduled times ONLY. (The food schedule will be published here when it is finalized... keep your eyes peeled.) We'll also have some snacks, cold sodas and water on hand. Typically the liquid refreshments last the night but the snacks tend to be eaten quickly, so be sure to grab something as soon as you're hungry! Donations Are Appreciated! Holding an event at a private venue does cut down our costs, but please remember that our pizza and electric bills are still substantial! Thanks as always for your support! – The SC3 Team http://www.sc3videogames.com/

It's finally time for the first SC3 event of 2013! Our next Arcade Party will take place on Saturday, June 1, at The Last Arcade on the Planet, a private facility jam-packed with '80s arcade classics in Santa Ana. If you're familiar with the gaming scene in Orange County, you may already have heard of The Last Arcade. The owner, Juan, has hosted numerous parties and events there. This is the first time SC3 has been involved, but it's a perfect fit for us. The Last Arcade features over 50 classic cabinets (and 5 pinball machines) representing the best titles from the Golden Age of Arcades. SC3 is bringing our usual complement of classic home console games and maybe a cabinet or two of our own. It'll be another great evening of games, games and more games! Event Schedule The June 1st party opens at 6 p.m. and lasts until 1 a.m. Home consoles and the game trading area will be stationed outside, and will likely close an hour or so before the event ends. The arcade itself will remain open until 1 a.m. Tentatively-scheduled Attractions: Over 50 classic coin-ops (and a few pinballs) on free play! Multiple home consoles, games, & oddities Snacks and cold drinks to enjoy SC3-TV and other classic gaming video clips Game trading! BRING YOUR TRADEBAIT Food Schedule Drinks and some snacks will be available at this event, but entrees will not be provided. Thank you! RSVP Today! the Last Arcade on the Planet is located at 1400 E. St. Andrew Place, Suite E, Santa Ana, CA 92705 If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! http://www.sc3videogames.com/future.php

California Extreme 2013 July 13-14, 2013 @ Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA Arcades were once a fixture on the American urban landscape, and games were plentiful in rural cities too. The closest heir of today is the so-called "Family Entertainment Center", which is populated with a myriad of devices designed only to take your coins quickly and leave you with a pile of tickets, which you exchange for cheap, trashy toys. This is entertainment? California Extreme was born with a desire to share fun coin op games that are in the hands of private collectors, and to hopefully spread the word that pinball machines were once plentiful, and that videogames were not synonymous with "martial arts" and violence. Buy/sell/trade! The show is a great place to bring games you want to sell, and also a good place to add to your collection, or even start it! Not all games will be for sale; many collectors bring games to show (or show off!) that they would never sell. So .. Can I play the stuff? Yeah .. Everything is on free play. You can play from the moment you arrive until we shut off the power at closing -- Play as many games as you want, in whatever order you want to. There are *HUNDREDS* of games, all set to play for free. This is a your chance to try those older games, or the newer games that you'd never put money into in an arcade. There are also many games that never got produced, and are very hard to find. http://www.caextreme.org/
