  1. This round port with three pins.. is it completely round or does it have a flattened edge on one side.. and are the three pins in a straight line? If so, sounds like an N64 joystick connector... that's the only 3-pin controller connector I've ever seen.
  2. That Skuba Diver cart.. the art on that looks like the box art for SeaQuest.
  3. Here's a link from Albert's reply to the "Cart Port" thread here: http://www.geocities.com/clu-da-bard/spectre.html
  4. Is it just me.. or did anyone else have the song "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" run through their head when they read this thread's topic?
  5. For 7800 on MESS: - put a7800.zip into BIOS OR a7800.ROM into BIOSa7800 (either should work; on the Mac, the "BIOS" folder should be called "ROMs") - put all 7800 game ROMs into Softwarea7800 To start this from the command line: MESS a7800 -cart cartname.ext where "cartname.ext" is the name if your cartridge ROM with the extension it has (.a78, .bin, whatever) BTW, this is all in the MESS.TXT file and the 7800 is a system which will NOT run without a cart installed, so you can't just type "MESS a7800" and expect it to pick a game out of a hat.
  6. Don't forget the hardware version of that one Mac emulator (the Mac ROMs plugged into the cart).. the software version was of "questionable" legality.
  7. Actually, the SNES CD is not vaporware.. it was just redesigned by its actual creators to not require the SNES "host" and released.... ..you might know it as the Sony Playstation.
  8. Lack of plentiful third-party software. Sega and Atari have proven time and again that it takes lots of third-party licensees to make or break a system. Even Nintendo's (apparently) mediocre showing in the N64 is proof. Lack of cost-effective media (IE: CDs instead of costly ROMs) also made N64 among the walking dead. Even Nintendo's made their own share of mistakes.. take the following into consideration: - Virtual Boy: 'Nuff said - SNES: If they'd stuck to plans to make a CD add-on, it could've survived a year or two more. - N64: What ever happened to the disk drive for this? Japan only.. just like the 8-bit. Why let them have all the good toys?
  9. I'm wondering if this "SwordQuest fan" (any real fan would not hoard 3 complete copies of WaterWorld as they're quite rare) has seen any of the other home-hobbyist games out there. Such as Yars' Quest and Ewok Adventure (the latter of which is a home-hobbyist version of an announced game, the same as AirWorld).. or the remade versions of Pac-Man. Yes, Atari went through tough times (thinking of "TAT Guy" from RPG World as I type that).. Yes, the series is not complete right now.. but I would rather have another game than "defend a legacy". His is ONE opinion.. here is mine: Finish the game.. if nothing else, you can give it another game and it'll still be fun.

    Downloads

The idea is that you're supposed to have the real cartridge to be downloading the ROMs. That being said, if you're using a Mac, you can just open the Download Manager window on MSIE and drag whatever ROM links you want downloaded into that.
  11. The way it's supposed to work (and if it doesn't work like this, the MESS team needs to know ASAP) is like this: separate files - C:MESSBios(system)biosrom1.rom, etc. Zipped files - C:MESSBios(system).zip Make sure the (system) name matches the one given in the readme. (example: Atari 7800 is "a7800" not "7800") Also keep in mind that individual rom names can and sometimes will get changed from release to release (happens more often in MAME than MESS tho) so it's important to read all the docs.
  12. actually, the 7800 should be set up like this: C:MESS32Biosa7800.zip
  13. There certainly is.. read the Stella documentation again so you know what keys correspond to the P1 and P2 joysticks.
  14. IIRC, Tengen was a subsidiary of the post-split "arcade" Atari (Atari Games) and Klax was done by Atari Games. Therefore, Midway would own the rights to Klax and Infogrames would potentially only have the license.
  15. ROFLMAO ... ya know, with a little redesign, he might be able to pass an idea like that off as another X-Box controller. Everything about that console is huge.
  16. Raiders Of The Lost Ark used BOTH joysticks. One controlled the player and the other controlled the inventory (Riddle Of The Sphinx used this scheme also). This way, you could conceivably use any inventory item anywhere.. unlike SwordQuest where you had to get into a room inventory screen to manage your inventory (with only 1 joystick).
  17. Radio Shack has some potentiometer spray that might help SOME jumpy paddle problems. The only thing is, it's not labelled that way. You want to look for the spray that's supposed to fix old manual TV tuner dials (yeah.. the ancient ones)
  18. So that means there's progressively FEWER rooms in each successive SQ game.. that really sucks. WaterWorld was so easy because it gave you clues as you went for what items go in each room. Fireworld was so hard because the speed ramps up as you find more clues. EarthWorld.. well, EarthWorld just had to throw in that room-randomizing Amulet (anyone ever walk into the same room 4+ times in a row and wonder what you're doing wrong? ) So if there's so many fewer permutations of rooms/objects due to the cut in the number of rooms.. what's going to be the game-balancing gimmick this time?
  19. The Intellivision Productions game ROMs (Sea Battle and Sword Fight) aren't posted here because they're still in production (no pun intended). I don't even think Hozer is offering copies of these yet since they're so recent and still being made (slowly).
  20. yeah.. $10-$35 for shrinkwrapped common (AtariAge 1-4 rarity) games is just insane. It's so hard to find games w/ manuals these days. I just toss the boxes in a plastic crate or a big box.. buying boxed is just about the only way to ensure you get a decent manual, if any these days.
  21. I thought there were 16 different trigrams, Dutch. hmm.. gotta check into that ->] http://www.britannica.com/eb/article?eu=42...query=i%20ching A quick check of Brittanica.com shows we're both wrong.. there are >*64*< different hexagrams to the I Ching. ..The internet is a wonderful thing sometimes. 22. Chaz, I have a spare Shark Attack (original label, minus the end label) if you're interested.
  23. That'd be "I Ching".. if that's the case, there might've been around 16 rooms or so.. more than the others (12 in EW, 10 in FW, 10 in WW)
  24. Shark Attack is bug-fixed? Mine must be a bad copy since the score font screws up sometimes and there's a spot on the right side where the diver can get stuck easily.
