Don't make me stop this car...
-
The way i always read it was that this was indeed a simulation of something that had already happened.

Now i may be an idiot, but if the AVP source is available then it should be possible to seperate out and comment the AI routines quicker than waiting for this shilling individual. Based on his past behavour you'll probably have a better chance of understanding how it works as well. And at the risk of offending everyone - he's a he unless and until he has the relevant surgery, until then he's either a transvestite or a cross dresser. But again based on the existing track record that will never happen as he never completes anything and it at least gives him the oppotunity to change his mind and to deny any of this was true at a later date - just sayin.

Just thought i'd drop by this thread and say what a pile of **** the jag is and to rubbish all the developers and homebrewers in the jag community for not producing Call of Duty 41 on the jag and really showing it's potential. Right that's that ticked off the list, now im off to sleep with your wives, drown a sack of puppies and torch an orphanage - see you in a few years. ?????

I'm just suprised Jane Whittaker hasn't piped up to claim it was all their hard work that got it to this state

Re the screen offset, I had the same issue until CyranoJ explained it for me in this thread ( it's about halfway down page 2) :

Better take out a second mortgage then - customs charges are killing me in the UK Still on the bright side we will probably have no electricity by then either

Just downloaded the demo and will give it a bash this evening. Q : Will this be available to purchase as a gamedrive file when released ? or will it be physical cart only ? Cheers

Question how many Atari Jaguars do you keep on hand?
saboteur replied to Pete5125's topic in Atari Jaguar
One i'm afraid ( though i've owned 3 over time) and a game drive. The one I have has had to have a new cartridge port though as some of the connections inside slot ripped out with a cart ? That said I keep an eye out for a spare. -
Swear to god i posted this in the GD forum - admin(s) can you move it please ?

One for CJ ( probably ) I assume the purpose of the CD add on was to allow for more data to be supplied on a cheaper medium but was it slower than accessing data via cart ? If so does that mean that with the advent of the gamedrive - game roms can be as big as one could wish with a better perfromance ( system limitations aside ) than cd E.G soundtracks can be cd quality ? Just curious really.

+ + + B R E A K I N G N E W S + + + Apparantly Jane Whittaker dictated the 10 commandments to Moses.... he was simmultaneously in London, California and Florida at that time but had to rush to Mount Sinai after getting a call from god asking if he could get it sorted. he will also probably claim involvement with inventing the covid vacine, the internet, nuclear fusion and creating the harry potter franchise - but only future interviews will confirm this. As a side note - it's really nice to see the Yakmeister posting here - one of my all time heroes.

Best sprite size for 320x240 screen resolution?
saboteur replied to ColecoGamer's topic in JagStudio
What i've found usefull is to 'mock up' the screen in paint and try various 'sprite' sizes by overlaying them. It's not ideal because paint doesn't have layers but it does work, I have tried doing this in inkscape but the results were unsatisfactory. Also a side benefit is you can also slice up the image into tiles to be used in your game if required. One final thing i will say is don't get bogged down creating fancy graphics at the start - decide on your sizes, make place holders ( i just use blocks of colour now) and get your game code sorted. You can make the graphics pretty later when you have something worthwhile. I know this, because it's what i did and it sucks the will to code anything out of you, but that could just be me -
Yeah 87.4 million units sold is a failure, coming in 7th in all time sales ( sandwiched between the Wii and the Switch ). I still have two as blu-ray players, media service clients and for a bit gaming (black ops 1 & two and battleield ). Atari would have loved that kind of failure. Back to the original question i'd say the jag didn't have a CD at release due to price and CD not being a console 'thing' when the jag was initialy designed.

I watched that video and evrything looked flat, as in sprites, but perhaps i'm being unkind. I thought it was supposed to be some super complicated bit banging, 3d model generating speed monster ?
-
Thanks saint, but i've registered on both and never heard anything back.
-
Just as an aside Albert/Saint are the units manufactured in the UK ? If so, could UK users buy from AA but they could be shipped direct in the UK ? This way you get the revenue without all the customs hassle.
-
I too would love to get one, but it seems they can't be had in the UK. Which is a shame cos I live in the next county from retrohq ( which in the UK means < 30 miles ) ?

Hi, First up thanks for JagStudio, been going through the examples and seeing what differences and gotcha's i'd come across converting from BCX. Anyhoo, the gridsprite demo is awesome. I'd been mucking around with tile based maps for my manicminer but was having real problems with sprite position to tile and never got it quite right but this demo has put me right. I think i found a mistake in the .bas though, i think line 123 should be : sprite[2].y=(sprite_y)<<16 this then allows the sprite to move to sprite to the top row of the map. Once again thanks for all the effort.

Well, a few moons ago i reduced my collection and cleared out all my Jag Stuff ( consoles, CD and games ) and got a good price at the time. Anyhoo, with the advent of JagStudio and coming across a skunkboard i found tucked away in a box of Sinclair Spectrum stuff I thought i might get me another jag ( plus i got an urge for tempest and wolfenstein tbh ) However i've noticed a few on the bay that are modded for 50/60hz ( some of which are fixed at 60hz ) is there a reason to avoid these ? other than speed is there any downside to having a unit fixed at 60hz here in the uk ? Also, I really dont remember buying this skunkboard, I think it's a Tursi original, but i've never used it and again would there be any issue using it with a 60hz fixed jag ? and how can i tell which version i have ? As always, your expertise is appreciated. cheers

Ahh but the one thing about HMRC is once your on there radar they never forget and they have a very flexible interpretation on statute of limitations as laid down in law. As long as they bring the case within two years of finding out about an issue, and they may for example find out about a problem 50 years after it first occured, they can apply fines and taxes based on all transactions in the previous 50 years. I know of a local company who used a wrong tariff no. for imports ( only a digit wrong ) and got a hefty back dated bill ( a fair few zero's ) and a full audit to ascertain if it was a deliberate error or genuine mistake. Almost put them out of business. And yes you are right HMRC cannot enforce UK law in another country, but you'd be suprised on how revenue and customs in various countries get along and help each other out especially when tracking down large scale fraud.
