  1. The Jag is still available, plus i have two controllers in mint shape for 5 dollars each. the original guy now doesnt want the stuff, so next in line,...your up
  2. hi there, i'm they guy who blew up my jaguar by connecting a snes power adapter into it. anyway, you guys here had a bunch of great info on what parts to buy and how to install them to fix it, but i just decided i dont have the time or intrest in the unit. i sold off all the games , the a/v cable, and right now there is an auction going for the three controllers on Ebay. i still have the console, the rf box, the original jag a/c adapter (yeah i found it after i already blew the thing up!) and a team tap. so if anybody wants this stuff, let me know and you can have it, just pay the shipping. se ya
  3. the website only lets you buy 282 minimum of these parts. unless the MC34163DWG will fit as well, because they sell these one at a time. radioshack doesnt carry this stuff?
  4. I just did the repair on a Jaguar console which I bought for just $2 or so. I had to replace U38 and C134, although these parts did not look fried or anything close to that. Soldering U38 was a bit of a pain but it worked for me. can you let me know where you purchased the parts? i would rather repair this console than buy another one.
  5. oh, and alot of you are mentioning the use of a SNES cable in the Jaguar. this is impossible because it doesnt fit. unless they made two different sizes, like my first sega genesis had a different size plug than the 2nd
  6. i want to fix my jag like stated here, but the images are not coming up
  7. i solder all the time, i just dont have a soldering tool that looks small enough to fit in the small spaces to change the u38 without getting solder all over the place!
  8. i have the jag apart and it looks like U38 is still intact, i dont see anything fried or anything. the c134 though, looks like it suffered some overheating or something. the plastic wrap around it is melted and the rubber innards were pushed out the bottom of it. u38 looks like a pain to replace anyway. how the hell would i get to those small solder joints? and it looks like c134 is in line before the u38. i think i can replace this c134 and get the unit working. what do you guys think? BTW, thanks for all your help so far. i never thought there would be such a dedicated following for this machine!
  9. The Jaguar needs 9-12 volts of DC and 1.2 amps. But you also need to make sure that the power adaptor you are using uses the correct scheme for + and - on the PS connector. While most power adaptors come with - on the other and + on the inner connector the Jaguar is vice versa: + is on the outer and - on the inner connector. Failing to attach the correct +/- scheme will immediatly "burn" the main DC conversion IC inside the Jaguar which is very hard to find as a spare part. what is the "IC"? i would at least try to find the part if i just knew what it was. it isnt the coil winding near the power plug is it? there is another component i found when i followed the power circut that looks a little messed up. it is a small black cylinder with "35degrees C" written on it. i'm guessing this is some kind of component that protects the jag from overvoltage or wrong polarity? it has rubber coming out of the bottom, too. is this the part you guys are talking about? See my other post, in which you were involved too: The IC in question is U38 is a MC34163DW. It will immediatly blow up if + and - are misconnected. And you should also replace C134 as it surely will be damaged too. To find U38 place the opened Jaguar with the two control pad ports facing to you. U38 is on the right hand side close to the right edge of the board. C134 is adjacent to U38. The parts will cost you about 5-10$. There is not overvoltage or polatity protection inside the Jaguar. In addition to that Atari missed to print the polarity needed beside the power supply socket. This has cost already countless Jaguars their lifes... yeah, there is no specs on the back of the jag for power requirements. do you think i can just go into radioshack and order these parts? (ic and c134) if all else fails i have a bid going for 2.00 on a jag console on ebay. its untested but its cheap. i cant believe i'm going through all this trouble for this old system. i guess its a nostalgia thing.
  10. i did look on the 'bay, but it sucks because the consoles are now more expensive than what i paid originally! i got mine from K-B toys in 1998 for 25 bucks, and i got all the games they had (they were 5 dollars each) and i got the composite cable and the team tap and another controller. i think everything together was under 100 bucks! i guess nobody was buying these things. sucks for atari. i thought the jag was kinda cool, cause nobody had one and some of the games were great. (others sucked big time)
  11. oops, didnt realize that post was so old!

  13. i'm haveing the same problem. i used the adaptor for my old NES and the jag quit working. what is an ic? i looked inside the unit and didnt see anything burnt up. where is this thing you speak of? i thought maybe if i could find something damaged, i could get a new part at radioshack.
  14. i just found my old jaguar in the attic, and my son wanted to play it, so we went to hook it up, but could only find the power cable for my old NES. the end fit in the jag but when i went to turn it on the power light only flashed . i tried powering on and off a few times but it would just flash every time/. i now found the correct jaguar cable and plugged it in, and the unit doesnt turn on. i looked at the NES adaptor and it says 9V AC with 1.3amps the jaguar adaptor says 9V DC with 1.2amps. did i fry the unit by using an adaptor with ac output? the jaguar is supposed to use a DC input. i pulled the jag case apart to see if anything inside was burnt and i dont see anything. i have tried finding wiring schematics online for the Jaguar but there isnt much info available. i did find a place that will take the system and fix it for about 24 bucks but i can get a whole new system on ebay for that much. what kind of help can you guys give me here? i would appreciate anything
