having finished it last night (a whopping 6 hours of gameplay...) i stick to my guns. the story makes no sense whatsoever, and not even in a charming old 8-bit way. why am i going after the gizmo in the archives? what does my wife have to do with anything? everything is basically 'oh go do this and make sure you drop the f-bomb every 3 minutes. why? lol idk'.
there are a total of three enemies in the game, a few with palette/weapon swaps. they are all incredibly stupid. even on the hardest setting, they stand around waiting to be shot.
the radiation poisoning brings no value to the game whatsoever, in fact it made me want to throw my controller on more than one occasion. you're swinging along, heading towards a checkpoint, la de da, then all of a sudden you're in an irradiated zone, and you're dead. there are no visual cues that an area is bad, until you're 2 second away from dying.
Major spoiler below:
the goddamn ending is a QTE event, not even a very good one at that. then you fall 4000 feet smack dab in to a building, then credits roll. that's it.
there were a few moments of real fun (drill snake battle, certain well thought out swinging areas) but the wonky controls, lack of any enemy challenge, magic radiation and awful story/dialogue make this a rental at best. it's a real shame BC turned out like this after the great BC:rearmed.

they've all been crap since TM2, so who cares.

I picked it up yesterday despite knowing better. Quick response: AVOID.
I don't understand the problem with the controls, left trig latches arm, right trig shoots, a jumps, b/y are melee. not exactly difficult.
that being said, it might as well have pink kryptonite fog for a background, as you're basically stuck in a tunnel, and if you should try to deviate from the tunnel, you die of 'radiation poisoning' and get to sit through another 20 second load screen to go back 5 seconds in the game.
the voice acting is terrible, the cut scene graphics are last gen at best, the enemies are about as smart as the ones from the original, 'hidden' items are huge, brightly colored balls, textual menus are white text on a blue/white gradiant background.
just.. avoid. i'm going to trick target in to giving me store credit back for it today.

sigh. i'll never understand the sf3 dislike. the core game is still there, with added speed, parries, dashes and more useful ultra's.
i still am amazed every time i watch EVO sf3 videos, hell of a lot more mixups than the sf2 matches.
despite seeming a little pixelated these days, i still think it has the best sprite graphics i've ever seen.

Captured about one minute of the game, now trying to chop it so it just has the referee counting.
sweet, thanks!

"WUNN... TwOOOOOoo... ThreEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"--weird referee, Mat Mania
Probably my favorite arcade sound ever, followed behind the opening of DK.

Got the Mat Mania count as an mp3? I could annoy my wife for weeks with that as my ringtone.

Picked up a minty DK Jr cabinet recently, and want to put a DK board in it. Must be in working condition, don't care if it's an original or double DK. Looking to pay normal prices, not ebay prices. PM me!

My assumption was always that Nintendo assumed much like 2600 developers that the NES was the second coming, and some of these games were developed for more of an adult market.

Not trying to convince you to go back, but I have to say I've bought at least 3000$ worth of stuff from them over the years, been to the warehouse for the weekend sales, etc, and I have never had a bad experience with them. They have a chat feature available on the frontpage that is manned during weekday business hours to handle stuff specifically like this, and I haven't had a single problem with it.
Just my 2 cents.

(Crossposted from DP)
Hey all,
I'm looking to unload a major chunk of my collection, just paring down to the stuff I still play on a regular basis. I have a fairly good idea of what each item is worth, but am posting them without prices in hope people would be interested in buying each lot in bulk. I will be willing to accept reasonable offers for any of the lots (or combinations thereof).
I will take pictures of items for serious buyers, or if anyone is in the Northern Virginia area I will be happy to meet them. I would prefer personal checks, but can do paypal if interested. PM me if you have any questions, thanks!

Seriously, time to start selling the hardware off.
-
i hope BloodNet gets on to the list!

-
I own more SNK MVS fighters than Capcom Fighters, but to me SF3TS is the epitomy of what a fighter should be. dont get me wrong, SNK had some spectacular fighters, but i found capcoms to be more in-depth and fun to play.
Seconded. (I own a AES and MVS, but SF3:3S has yet to be beat.)

What always drove me nuts was how bad most early 3D console games looked, compared to Alone in the Dark for PC, which was fantastic.
-
I didn't know there was a sequal! I'll have to check that out!
Queue the Parma Polish jokes..
Good to see another NE Ohio person.

I sure hope this is one tricked out Famicom with a bunch of addons and carts for you to want to sell.
-
I can't say I'm super happy with mine, but I must say, I find myself turning it on more and more to play everyday shooter.
Congrats on the purchase.
-
Yeah, right. $30 I highly doubt it man. Thats insulting
TC4 is great fun and I actaully think the Guncon3 is pretty darn good.
Yeah, because historically, niche, overpriced games never go down rapidly in price.
As far as aiming, the gun is great, but the buttons and edging feels really cheap. If I hadn't gotten it from the amazon deal, I would have been really pissed to get a 30 minute game (I don't like the FPS mode, shrug) and a guncon that feels as cheap as this for the 90$ price, especially given that there probably won't be many other Guncon compatible games on this console.
To each their own.
-
Good list...
I'd add REZ!!!!!

i was thiiiiis close to doing the same, but this is a ps2 specific thread, so i felt a port would be cheating.

Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Digital Devil Saga 1/2
Zone of the Enders 1/2
Metal Gear Solid 3
RType Final

I picked it up during the fire sale, arrived today. Love the game, hate the guncon.
Feels cheaper than previous GCs in my opinion, and the front stock is driving me nuts, but i'll get used to it.Best Buy will probably have it on sale for 30$ in Feb, I'd wait.

I even played the hell out of abyssmal crap like Starfox 64, because I had paid $70 or $80 for that one and I was damn well going to try and find something, no matter how insignificant, which was good about the game (I never did).
It's one thing to not like a game, it's another thing to call it an abyssmal piece of crap, especially one that is generally regarded as not only a great game, but the best in the series.
Now if you want to talk about Starfox Adventures...

-
I'll bet anyone here a combat cart they don't even touch SNK.

I've recently acquired a loose copy of FF1, looks to be in excellent condition, want to trade for a loose copy of Mega Man 2. Anyone interested?

Old Wolfenstein 3D on XBLA?

Seconded, I've been using old maps made in MS paint or something to rush the levels before I feel like throwing up.
