  1. Spawn Wave Media did a tear down. Word is that the FPGA is the same but I don’t think he went into further detail about RAM, flash, etc. Still, that I/O slot for the Sega CD can probably be used to add a whole other FPGA if need be. ;)

Lol, thats the only video I have not yet watched. Yeah, I like the I/O slot, be nice if it finds use beyond the Sega CD but guess thats up to Analogue and/or Kevin. The Super NT seemed so minimal after the NT Mini, even though it might never get used I like to see(think about) expansion possibilities.

  2. So was wondering about the tech specs of the Mega SG hardware over the Super NT? Does it have more/less ram, same fpga or newer/bigger? Is much space left over in either the FPGA in the Super NT or Mega SG? Am I right in thinking the audio got an upgrade over the Super NT?

Be nice if Kevin could answer but appreciate he might not want to give anything away, I guess others who have taken it to bits might be able to comment on RAM and the FPGA?

    Thanks.

    **UPDATE**

I have some good news here for those of us who bought the defective 8BitDo M30 2.4g controllers. (I personally bought 3 of them. 2 black, 1 white). 8BitDo got in contact with me and sent me a beta 2.0 FW which completely fixes the connection problems. I've been testing them out since last night and haven't noticed a single disconnect or latency issue. I'm very happy with them now.

Since I know others are having this specific problem, and since 8BitDo has not yet made this FW available on their website (as of today anyway), I'm hosting the file on my website. **Though for legal reasons, use at your own risk** I've updated 3 controllers and 3 receivers and they are all working great.

Just make sure you are copying the correct .DAT file to the correct controller or receiver. They are labeled as such. **You will need a micro screwdriver to take the receiver shell apart. I used a philips head micro screwdriver from a glasses repair kit**

Easy to follow instructions are included in the zip file.

Probably to ensure better compatibility when connected to other systems such as the Switch.

It would be nice if there is a way for the Mega Sg to access them for UI stuff though.

Thanks, will give it a try.

  4. There's only a handful of PAL Master System games that have a hard time on NTSC hardware. The vast majority of them work fine. Can't speak to the NT Mini SMS core; I've not used it.

Yes, I think every PAL game I tried on the NT Mini did run, just the speed/sound was wrong. So yes, technically you could play it but you wouldn't want to.

You would assume kevtris will sort this now it's being sold as a commercial project (rather than the freebie on the mini). I'm sure I did ask and received reply from kevtris way back in this thread about the SMS core on the mini.

  5. Mega Sg question--will it run PAL games right?

I have always loved Micro Machines, and probably the best one on Mega Drive, Micro Machines Turbo Tournament '96, is a PAL exclusive.

Additionally, when I imported it, it ran on my Genesis, but not too surprisingly, it ran too fast. It turns out that I'm simply not good enough to play it that way. Will there finally be a way for me to play the game at the right speed with the Mega Sg?

Analogues site says it will play PAL and is compatible with mega drive games. My concern is the master system core, as the NT Mini core currently only supports NTSC which is quite a small catalogue of games. Hopefully it will have been updated.

  6. Whichever console Analogue decides to release next will certainly be interesting. While their first few offerings were boutique, the Super NT and Mega SG appeal to a bigger audience and can be mass produced/sold at much larger quantities and for a longer period of time than what came before. Unless they decide to go the handheld route, most of the future possibilities are more boutique and will sell less than the SNT/MSG, or have potentially dealbreaking issues as previously mentioned by others (BIOS, CD stuff, sheer complexity, etc). I am in no way qualified to speculate on whether they will return to a more niche product after having tasted the revenue that comes from something like the SNT/MSG, or if they will attempt to tackle the issues posed by cloning a newer system; however, I definitely look forward to their 2019 announcements.

I agree. Another thought is that they may now have enough clout to get a license for BIOSs and produce officially licenses or branded systems.

  7. I know they have history with new geo but I wonder if they might just skip it (and pc engine) due to lack of mass appeal (sales). N64 would make sense from a sales point of view but that thing is technically bonkers, so would perhaps take too long. PS1 makes more sense technically until you think you have to put a CD-ROM in the thing.

Sega Mega Drive was the obvious choice after seeing the super nt but I don't think I can guess the next console this time. Maybe the next year will just be adapters for mega sg and super nt, or maybe do a multi fpga retro computer?

Not completely...no. Basically there exists now the ability to pipe in the vector information from a computer running the rom in MAME into a vectrex. So MAME is still running the rom itself, but the video and control is handed over to the Vectrex. Without the logic to worry about, the Veccy is able to reproduce the vector graphics from vector games.

That is my basic understanding of what is happening. I'm sure someone will chime in with far more details on how it actually works.

Sounds interesting, do you know if it was using the v.st board or something new?

    Edit, somehting new! see

  9. It was never complete? what wasn't complete about it? from what I recall, I got all games to work on it. It also supports the FM expansion audio.

It works great, but I think he is referring to PAL, many games were not released on NTSC (when I last tried PAL did not work).

    Thanks

  10. blimey, they are a bit pricey now!

Amazing system though, love mine. Been playing with the Super NT a couple of days and it really is very good, however I do think the NT Mini is in a different league (right now). The leap from a standard NES to NT Mini is far greater than a SNES to Super NT as the SNES had pretty good RGB to start with, I think Analogue realised this from the start, hence the lower price. The Cores on the NT Mini are the icing on he cake, it is my main gaming console that is always ready to play on my main TV, love playing Gameboy Colour Tetris DX and Atari 2600 games look amazing, feel like a can finally play them properly.

My opinion might change if the 8 bit cores are released for the Super NT but without them the NT Mini is worth the extra retail price (maybe even the $1000 they are going ebay for).

  11. OHAIGUYS. Finished my video on the subject:

D-pad swap pretty much resolves the issue with unintended diagonals. You can probably put a sticker or something underneath the old D-pad if you don’t have an original lying around. Let me know if that works out for anyone.

Looks good, where did you get those new shells from? Thanks.

  12. The plug is marked. It is very faint/hard to see though. I am at work so I can't tell you exactly what it says.

ah, cool, i'll have another look, thanks. Will probably use a proper plug, travel adapters never seem particularly good/safe. Just don't know how they think a USA plug is somehow "worldwide".

  13. Bit unrelated to this thread but how is the Super NT "worldwide power supply" also "USA/JPN", seems a complete contradiction?! I'm guessing they mean it will work on 240v with an adapter but it has no markings on the plug so will not risk it. Bit rubbish, I have plenty of usb power supplies so I guess I will have one that will work. Although people complained about noise from the NT Mini plug, at least it was multi-region and worked out the box (i'm still using it without problems).

Sorry, rant over, for now, i'll shut up, only a minor quibble, really bugs me trivial stuff people winge about on this thread, lol.

  14. Hey guys, I hope you enjoy your new Analogue's toy, mine is still in the warehouse, I'm really upset now.

Analogue wrote to me, I need to contact UPS to see if I have customs fees to pay, shouldn't UPS notify me about that in shipment progress? Other companies have always done so, what a shame..., the problem is that the UPS doesn't respond to any of my questions...

Not sure if it helps or not but mine came through Donnington without problems, not been asked to pay duty.

Still can't play it though, have visitors over the next couple of days so still be the weekend before I can try it :-( . Opened the box though, looks nice though has a few minor scratches on the cart flaps in the centre, I am a very fussy customer, if it were a shop down the road i'd have taken it back.

  15. Had this article/link been posted before? Bit different to the others, shows a couple of real pictures, the Super NT is tiny!

    http://www.scmp.com/culture/arts-entertainment/article/2118165/retro-gaming-gets-21st-century-boost-analogue-consoles

Article talks about Sega Genesis/Mega Drive (and other consoles) being made in the future which is not surprising. Mentioned before but it really does make me think the jailbreak will be more restrictive this time, of course Kevtris could make a Mega Drive or NES core for the Super NT but this could hit sales, it certainly will be interesting to see if we get other cores and if we do, which ones? Maybe it will just be limited to the less comercial systems and for loading SNES roms?
