I though it would be cleaner than combining the signals off the Stella chip. After the buffer the 3 luma signals, sync and chroma combine before going to the modulator, but I can't get anything at this point (pin 12 connecting the top and main board). Any idea why? I know, I gave up trying it that way as some weird stuff seems to go on in the "buffer". Have you looked at the extra PAL circuit (left of stella on a junior), you might find you need to add somthing from there, you could also try pin 20 maybe? [ 03-28-2002: Message edited by: Radfoo ]

I'd love to see a picture of your finished board. This is so cool. Maplin product code uh00a should do the trick as its quite small and can easily fit inside an existing Atari Junior case. The resistor is not that crucial as it only changes black/grey colours (try Pole Position and adjust line 7 with a spare 1k pot), if you already have somthing around 1k or 2k they would both work fine. I'll perhaps add better list of whats needed on my web site. [ 03-24-2002: Message edited by: Radfoo ]

  4. quote: Originally posted by liveinabin: Wow!!! Just had a look at it. yeah, I reckon I can do that! I'll get the bits in a couple of days and I'll let you know how I get on (I'll prob get 3rd degree burns and destroy my flat ) Cool! (except for the flat 'n' stuff) It's probably not as complicated as my instructions make out, so hopfully you will be okay. Good luck!
  5. Here is my web site with the PAL A/V (composite) modification http://www.itstoast.co.uk/atari/

  7. quote: Originally posted by John Soper: Both the ntsc six-switchers and juniors have a 4050 digital buffer on the luma and sync signals which is supposed to give it better looking video than a 4-switch. I've never noticed a difference, but that could explain what you others are seeing. It's hard to beleive how different the PAL and NTSC models are. I have both a PAL 6 switch and an Atari Junior, both systems are perfect but the Junior has a better picture (even better with using an a/v mod). I am tempted to try an a/v mod on a 6 switcher, but i'd kill myself if I broke it.
  8. I've sorted out how to get a good a/v output from a PAL Atari Junior. If any one is interested i'm going to put up a web site in a couple days, i'll post a link here when its up and running.
  9. Yep, I did'nt do a great job. The main problem was the a/v signal and finding a good size case for it all. hmmmm not sure if I should admit to it but, yes I have been know to watch Junkyard Wars.
  10. I just took a picture of a PAL Atari Junior at http://www.itstoast.co.uk/at.JPG. (I broke it when I was experimenting making my own portable atari). See how the PAL version has the extra circuitry in the bottom left compared to the NTSC model http://www.classicgaming.com/2600ce/detail...hiwconsole.html. Maybe composite should be hooked up to this extra circuit!?
  11. Last year I bodged together a portable atari system of my own from an PAL Atari Junior and used the a/v mod from the VCSP site. The picture quality was great but it changed the system into and NTSC machine. Which worked okay on my mini TV but the colours were the NTSC versions (so i needed ntsc carts for stuff to look right) There is a good picture of the NTSC PCB Atari Junior on the Atari CE site. If I can find my digital camera I'll take one of my pal junior. From what I remember the PAL version uses extra circuitry just to the left of the chips.

    Klax

Oh yes, sorry I did not check the search form properly. I've just been playing Klax, its a very fun and playable version of the game. Pity its missing the 2 player option though.

    Klax

I just received an original PAL copy of Klax that I purchased off Ebay. So I think the details on the guide are wrong as this cart is not a prototype, unless it was just never released on NTSC?! Maybe the rarety guide should be updated.
