The problem has cropped back up for me as well.

How’s the self appointment “king of 3d flat polygon jaguar games” doing these days?
You forgot to add "without audio".

Thanks @davpa
I think the default controls for both games are causing a bit of confusion as the VCS seem to default to 1 button for most people and they are two button games.
Maybe we need a version of the ROM for the VCS that says "CHANGE YOUR CONTROLS" on the splash screen.A lot of videos on YT of people floundering as they don't have 2 buttons working ingame.
I haven't had this issue, strangely enough, as I'm able to use two buttons in E.X.O. without changing the default mappings. I think a better default mapping solution for the emulator that the VCS uses would save everyone a lot of grief.

I'll second what Atari_JaguarVCS said above. If a firmware update doesn't fix the issue then you'll need to contact Atari about getting a replacement.

I didn't get a screenshot unfortunately, i basically turned on my Atari VCS 800 and the game was already downloaded onto my console with an automatic 5 star rating from me 😥. I'll definitely delete the game from my system until you get the issue resolved and i would hope everyone else who received the game for free will do the same. I'm down to pay for the game when the issue is resolved. I've had a blast playing exo 7800 what an amazing game it is I'll treat this as a demo or something and will remove it ASAP
Yup, that's what happened with me too, I didn't even have to download it. I'll make up for it by buying some of his other games.

That's because the default mapping for the emulator used to run 7800 games on the VCS has the left thumbstick set to reset. You can change this mapping by pressing on the Atari button on the controller (short press, not a long one) which will bring up the emulator's menu. You can then go to the input settings and remap it to another button. It's nice that it can be changed, but that default mapping is still a pain. There's been more than once where I've had a good run going in Food Fight only to accidentally press down on the thumbstick and have it reset the game.

I just noticed that myself. Getting E.X.O. 7800 for free was a nice treat, and the other homebrews are all quite reasonably priced. I love that we're starting to get more 2600 and 7800 homebrews on the system, now it's just time for some of the other Atari systems to get theirs on there too.

First order of business is getting the Atari Games catalog back, everything else is secondary.

I'm more worried about Microsoft trying to buy out Atari, especially if the brand takes off again under Wade's stewardship.
Yes, that scenario gives me nightmares. You might as well consider Atari to be gone for good if that ever happens. That said, it would be nice if something could be worked out with MS to get licenses for the old Activision catalog. I'm just not going to hold my breath.

Just bought the game myself. I made it through the end of the tutorial, and then in the first non-tutorial room I got crushed pretty quickly. The game does have a bit of a learning curve to it based on what I've played so far and what I've seen through preview videos of it.

Such a shame that a thread about one of the bigger Atari games of the last few years immediately devolved into a discussion on gender locked characters. Seriously, who cares? IT'S A GAME.

Just looking at those screenshots, the layout and styling of what I can see there reminds me a lot of Diehard Gamefan magazine.

That was a good read. I look forward to future issues.

Some people might have forgotten but those who went to JagFest 2K or 2K1 (IIRC) based on research i did a couple of years ago, might remember that two or three Japanese folks went to the show. One of them was actually the guy who co-edited the Jaguar Japan magazines
They were at JagFest 2K1 and 2K2. I met them at the latter event but couldn't really communicate with them then. Actually, doctorclu was there too.

I didn't start with you. You started with me, passive-aggressively, with your "grumpy old man comment". It was gratuitous and I take exception to it.
No, I don't believe it's a mere matter of preference, and that there is an objective goodness or badness to things. Disagree with that? Your prerogative. You want to defend the game on its merits and have a discussion about it? Up for it. Don't obliquely reference me and accuse me of "whining" and "yelling at the kids" because things don't fit my personal preference. That's not what I'm doing and if you don't want a debate, don't start one.
Fair or not fair?
My comment was a general reference to the whining and complaining that's been going on here about not just the Recharged games, but about many other things, and furthermore, it wasn't specifically pointed at you. If you want to take it personally, well, that's your prerogative, not mine, and not every comment that disagrees with you is one that's angling for a debate.

That's the thing, the kind of guys who want to put games on the VCS, for whatever reason, are the kind of guys whose games I want to have put in front of me, and I don't necessarily want to be in a walled garden, but I would like a nice fence around it. The VCS, for all its different quirks and flaws, is almost the perfect model for me, even though it's not probably economically viable. Maybe a just a liiiiiiiitle more openness, like what leech is describing, would be good, but I really wouldn't want it to be too much more so.
Those are pretty much my exact thoughts on it as well. I like the system it has going right now, even if the game library is a bit sparse. Many of the small indie games that are getting drowned out in the ocean of the Steam store actually get some visibility through the VCS store, and likewise, many of these are games that I never would've noticed or given the time of day to on Steam.

Why do you begrudge me my disappointment?
You can be disappointed all you want, just don't state that your opinion on it is an objective fact and be dismissive of those who are less critical of it than you.

Come now; don't be an apologist for low standards. You're better than that.
Have you played the game yet? If not, then how can you consider my opinion of what I saw in a short trailer to be a "low standard"? At least hold off judgment until the game is released. And really, stop whining about every small detail that doesn't fit your own personal tastes, and then claim it to be some objective truth that all must adhere to. It's tiresome.

Looks like this will be another Recharged game I'll have fun playing while the grumpy old men critics shout at the kids to get off their lawn.

No, this quirk was discovered by a VCS Discord member, retroman21. He said he was inspired by something he used to do in C64, but that is probably a BS story, as he is always trolling us about the greatness of C64.
Obviously, this is not a full fix, but if it works in the meantime then that is great. This error has always been in code changes on the side of our eStore partners, not the VCS. It has been a frustrating situation to get them to fix the errors that are affecting the VCS, which we will continue to press for. Again, at least for now, we have a hack for people to use if this error affects them.
Yes, I saw him mention it in the Discord channel and when I went to try the workaround myself, I saw that my VCS was again storing my previously entered payment info, which it wasn't doing while the problem was happening for me. Either I'm just lucky and my system somehow encountered a glitch that resolved itself, or your eStore partner might actually be paying attention and did something on their end to fix it. Either way, I'm quite happy that I can start spending money that I don't have again.
-
Strangely enough, I went to try this fix but then found that my VCS was storing my payment info again, so I didn't need to. Did you guys make any changes on your end that would've affected this?

#44,463 - The Gem Collector (and about damn time that that ZIP code bug was fixed!)

The number of times it was called vaporware ... the VCS has its weak points, I could point them out all day long. But it has some strengths.
It has tons of potential and signs are pointing towards it realizing at least some of it. Now if you guys can just iron out the bugs...

ZIP Code error in VCS Store: A work-around
in Atari VCS
Posted
I've kept my CC info saved on the VCS all this time and that hasn't had any effect on the issue. In fact, I know when the issue has cropped back up just by my CC info coming up as not saved when I try to make a purchase.
