Give it time. The GD is relatively new, and sooner or later homebrews will start becoming available for it. Nothing in the Jag scene happens overnight.

Southeastern part, not far from Tucson, so I'll probably be a bit out of your way.

I'd really love to go, but not sure at the moment how that will happen considering my circumstances. Anyone driving up there from or near AZ?

The "Hide" function on here only works as well as the inability of others to not quote the target user's posts. And besides, he's been spouting his nonsense for how many years now? You can't reverse brain damage.

What's the most under-rated retail game on the Atari Jaguar?
Sauron replied to Jag64's topic in Atari Jaguar
Despite its flaws, I always thought Hover Strike (cart) was a better game than most people gave it credit for. I'll also agree with the others about Syndicate, although truth be told that game plays much better with a mouse. -
What's the most innovative gaming feature introduced on the Atari Jaguar?
Sauron replied to Jag64's topic in Atari Jaguar
Of course, but some others here want to be pedantic about it and say "but, but, it's just a graphics mode for the SNES!". But being pedantic is par for the course when it comes to some members of this forum. Including myself (sigh). It's probably the #1 cause of discussions getting sidetracked. -

Yes, that's exactly what I was explaining. -

You're right, of course, but that's not telling the whole story. "Mode 7" has been bandied about to refer to similar background scaling effects ever since, so nowadays it's pretty much synonymous for "full screen background scaling" for those who are less technical. -
THIS. Many people don't realize just how important artwork is for a game. That doesn't make it any more or less important than clever programming, but if you're missing one or the other, you're probably not going to impress anyone. With the NeoGeo, there were a ton of extremely talented and experienced programmers and artists who worked on the entire library. While there were certainly some of those who worked on the Jag also, there weren't nearly as many. If there's one thing I've learned from many of the interviews done with past Jag devs, it would be that the majority of them were highly inexperienced and working with few resources. That makes a huge difference in the overall quality of a game.

I think it probably depends largely on the game, but the Jag's hardware could probably handle most NeoGeo titles without much of a problem. The biggest problem area would most likely be with the massive ROM sizes of many NeoGeo games, but as was mentioned above, that's a problem that wouldn't be difficult to solve with the JagGD.

Um, that's largely what Atari did from the mid 80s to the early 90s. However, by the early 90s the writing was on the wall for the non-Wintel computer market, with computer sales for both Atari and Commodore dropping rapidly. Even Apple barely survived that decade. The Jaguar was essentially Atari's last ditch effort at remaining a viable company.

Jumping At Shadows - WIP Platform Game from Reboot-Games
Sauron replied to CyranoJ's topic in Atari Jaguar
This game is looking quite nice. Can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it! -
Taking Europe out of the equation would have nothing to do with it. Atari had a much larger market in Europe than in North America at that time, and I'd venture to say that a rather hefty percentage of the total Jaguars sold were in Europe.

ICD Catbox Order Around February 1997 - Fulfillment Experience?
Sauron replied to Kurtois's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yup, a lot of people got stiffed on their CatBox orders. Considering the amount of time that has passed, I think it's safe to assume that no further CatBoxes will be shipped, nor will anyone receive refunds. </obviousmodeoff> -
No idea if he was even Russian, but he lived in the US. Pretty certain they had nothing to do with him.
-
His "list.ru" email indicates he's in Russia. I'm pretty sure Al banned all Russian IPs a long time ago due to the amount of spam and attacks that originate from that corner of the world. I'd imagine the developer could register here with a Gmail email address and by using a VPN.

I don't think anybody has ever said that Battlesphere wasn't a decent game. The developers were obviously very talented and worked hard on the title. The main problems come in from two different areas: 1. The game wasn't quite as good as the hype made it out to be, and 2. The developers had problems getting along with anyone who didn't kiss their arses. Problem #1 may seem ridiculous to those who weren't around the Jag scene in the late 90s/early 00s, but you only have to look at the prices that BS carts go for on eBay to see proof of it. As far as the "drama" that's been referenced here, that all stems from problem #2, and has been rehashed over and over and over. Granted, much of it started almost 20 years ago (damn, can't believe it's been that long...) and led to what would become a large split in the Jag community that persisted for a number of years. However, time does seem to have a healing effect and here we are, in 2022, with a large Jag community that, outside of a few castaways who refuse to play nice with others, is no longer suffering from a civil war. In the end, regardless of what your opinions are of the game itself, there's no denying that it's had a huge influence on the Jag community, and will probably be the subject of conversation in one form or another as long as a Jag community exists. Even if you're not a fan of the developers or the game itself, you can at least appreciate that.

Alexa, which is the best game for the Atari Jaguar...?
Sauron replied to ls650's topic in Atari Jaguar
It's a matter of terminology. Call them "indie" or "homebrew", doesn't really matter to me. -

I just asked Alexa that same question, and it answered with Cannon Fodder. Certainly didn't expect that! -
Argh, these releases always happen when I'm broke. Oh well, I can eat ramen for a few weeks. Add me to the list if at all possible.
-
I don't recall ever hearing much bashing of Battlemorph. It got pretty decent reviews at the time and has generally been held to be the best JagCD game. If anything, it's just suffered from obscurity as so few people actually played it back in the day.

The amount of entitlement in your posts is incredible. I'm sure all of the 8-bit developers pushing the 8-bits "to their limits" are glad to have you hanging around, likewise with the secretive Jaguar devs that you mentioned. What I'd like to hear you explain, though, is what exactly is a game that is "worthy" of being on the Jag, and why the number of homebrews we've gotten over the years apparently don't live up to your expectations? As far as having enjoyable experiences in forums, the Jag forum has been pretty nice the last few years. If you're not having a good experience in it, then perhaps you should take a good look at to who is really at fault for that.

Title: The RetroLaird Kieren Hawken interviews himself
Sauron replied to RetroLiar's topic in Atari General
Looks like he's back to arguing with Leonard Tramiel about Jack's intentions when he bought Atari. Classic Kieren, complete with the obligatory sock puppets. -
It blows my mind that the Jaguar was basically only around for 2 years
Sauron replied to T.A.P.'s topic in Atari Jaguar
I never understood the mindset of many gamers back then who didn't give the DC a fair shake. I bought one myself shortly after launch and never tired of it at all throughout its lifespan. The system had a crazy amount of fun games, with the releases never seeming to slow down, and I built up a huge library even before Sega decided to shelve it. Thinking back on when Sega announced its cancellation and their transition to being just a software publisher is depressing. -

Sauron replied to T.A.P.'s topic in Atari Jaguar
Why does liking the Jag mean hating the N64? I certainly don't hate it, and I'm about as big of a Jag fan as anyone else. Pretty much any other mainstream console will most likely beat the Jag when it comes to the homebrew scene, just due to sheer numbers. I don't see it as a "race", though. Jag fans and homebrewers will keep the system alive for as long as there are fans wanting more games and developers making them.
