  1. This isn't a real revolution, it's just segregating some processes away from the main CPU. It'll make games a bit faster (and consoles expensive), allowing for slightly more accurately modeled physics. The problem with accurate physics is that it makes for boring games. Even the most ardent 'simulation' fudges Newtonian mechanics to allow for more interesting gameplay. Your average person wouldn't be able to drive a Formula One car without training.
  2. It was obvious Nintendo would have a crackdown on those Famiclone consoles sooner or later. It looks as if Ninty were fearing lost sells on the NES back catalogue they've been dragging up a lot recently (NES classics on GBA, WarioWare games etc). Fair play I say. I wouldn't want people making money off of the stuff I created, and worked hard for. At the end of the day it's Nintendo's money that's gone in to creating these games, who has the right to come along and take it?
  3. PC Engines in Japan are as common as Master Systems in Europe, so they aren't actually worth much more than the price of shipping (which is expensive in Japan). My recommendation would be (if you don't want mine) emuogo.com, who are located in Hong Kong - they've always done me good deals (and are willing to negotiate their advertised prices).
  4. I'd pick up these. Stunt Race FX is pretty sought after as, other than Starfox / Star Wing, it was the only game to use the Super FX chip. Streetfighter II, depending on the version, is pretty popular among so many collectors.
  5. 1) There isn't much 'hassle', but other than the odd shumps and the best Bomberman version the machine doesn't have much PAL SNES or MD can't offer. 2) You'll need a Mega Drive (or similar 9V 800mA PSU) to avoid buying a stepdown converter, and either a TV that will handle a NTSC signal (as most new ones do, if in doubt run a PS2 in 60Hz - if it comes out B&W then your TV won't handle NTSC) or NTSC -> PAL converter (which can be expensive). 3) Galaga '88 4) I've never dealt with them, I got my from Chan at Emugo.com (who is great) with around 5 games. I'd be interested in selling / trading it, if you'd be interested then PM me.
  6. I think you need to be careful in separating forums up in to smaller and smaller subdivision, unless, of course, the forum in question is too crowded and people aren't finding posts they want to read. It's my fear that the information available will become too thinly spread. Moreover, I think that separate wanted and for sale section are a bad move. How many people look at the marketplace with the mindset 'I have this lurking in my cupboard, maybe I should check AtariAge on the off chance someone may want it...'?
  7. I really hated Nomad Soul (Omicron in the US) for the Dreamcast and PC, but everybody raved about it. I ended up forcing myself to play it, thinking 'not that many people can be wrong', for hours. For me, there was no joy to be had anywhere in that game, David Bowie or not. I was most recently disappointed by Eternal Darkness on the Cube.
  8. Just to clarify that this is the arcade version on the Xbox's Midway's Arcade Treasures. That must be what it is. He's a much worse player than me :-) I had another go today and you definitely don't get new subscriptions for perfect runs, which I can normally do on Monday and Tuesday of Easy Street. I'm assuming this game can't be beat, can it?
  9. My games stuff is all dotted around at the moment, as I'm currently decorating a new room. It'll have a nice InFocus DLP projector, a 6'x6' pull down screen, beer fridge, walk in games cupboard, bean bags and surround sound. It's going be fricking excellent and I'll post pictures as soon as it's done.
  10. I was playing Paperboy yesterday and my friend was, although not getting all subscribers in each day, getting new houses at the end of the round. I was wondering what you have to do to get this. Neither of us could work it out, because we both play pretty much the same game. Anybody know?
  11. I personally think we'll see Microsoft pushing the directX format on future portable Window projects before they entered the handheld market fully, if at all. MS have reportedly backed other non Sony and Nintendo handheld projects; the Gizmondo runs some Windows software, and there are some others in dev that are based, I believe, on CE. Very much as with the Dreamcast I think Bill will slime his way in, testing the water, with some other company's R&D money.
  12. Depth is a scalar measurement between two points, which classifies it as a distance. My pet peeve is when people talk about light years as a measurement of time, as opposed to it being the distance light would travel in a year.
  13. Pathway To Glory is supposed to be the killer app. Shame it all came to late. I wonder what the future of the N-Gage is now that Nokia got their fingers burnt? I know they made a statement of intention to support the system through thick and thin - profit and loss, but they really haven't marketed it like a console, and it isn't a mobile phone. They could have had both markets, but they ended up with neither.
  14. I got a NOS Jag for £5 and stacks of Jag and Lynx games for 99p each about three years ago at EB. Apparently they found a warehouse full of them...
  15. Is that licensed? Isn't it id's IP?
  16. Poor Pancake Boy is super rare, not to mention very enjoyable Burger Time clone from the people who did Happy Biscuit Man, probably a 9 if not a 10. I myself have dealt with Shamus on the Hike & Cyc Trail several times. Great to do business with. On another note, I used to get loads of response out of wanted ads, but not now with all the Johny Come Latelys muscling in on my free ad papers.
  17. I'd personally like to see numbered SE releases, alongside standard versions. Extras like DVDs, T-shirts, posters, controllers or just more levels on the games would make great boxed-sets.
  18. Has anyone used this language? I'm of the understanding that is extremely simple, but is it short of being useless for creating any playable game? I'm sure I'll break out soon anyway, but I was just wondering what the consensus was.
  19. Yeah, the serial link cables didn't come out anywhere but Asia, even though all region F355's support it. Those are even harder to find than the NGPC cable, too.
  20. I've probably got some spare systems and controllers, but all my spare carts got given away long ago. If you're interested then you can have some stuff for the price of postage.
  21. The NGPC -> DC link cable plugs one end in to the link connection of the NGPC and the other in to the 'serial' port of the DC. The reason the cables are so in demand is because the connectors were used to make DC coders cables, that allow you to test code without burning discs, as they were the only product available commercially that featured the special serial plug. Now, however, the coders cables are available at Lik-Sang, so you'd be able to hack a cable up out of one of those and an NGPC link cable. But for the effort, I wouldn't bother unless you're really diehard.
  22. GHS? Looks like it never got a US release, unfortunately. You can get it in the UK for £9 or less, which is handy if you have a chipped machine.
  23. Gregory Horror Show is a definite top 5 modern game of the last five years. It's essentially a bit of a RE spoof, based around a rather quirky Japanese CGI cartoon and trading card board game. Doesn't make much sense, right? You'll have to buy it and play it - it's dirt cheap if you can find it.
  24. Obvious as mentioned Metal Slug, Sonic and SvC series are well worth getting, but also a little import called Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun is brilliant. It's essentially WarioWare before Nintendo was doing it; it draws on the entire history of gaming, not just SNK's. Avoid the gambling simulations no matter how cheap they are, you'll never get any joy from betting imaginary money. Trust me.
