  1. Behold, the greatest Atari-compatible joystick of all time, the Newport Controls Prostick II:

  3. I like that you've got everything plugged in and ready to go, plus you've got Prostick II's. I love those things. As far as the "nostalgia" the OP mentioned, I don't know if that's as much a factor as people say it is. It's more that we just really liked doing something, then went away from it, then realized we weren't really done with it yet. Over the years I realized there are some things I just don't want to be without, even if I'm not using them at the moment. My 2600, my NES, I love those things and will always come back to them from time to time. It's nice to put the actual cartridge in the actual console and use the actual controller. Other things from that era are nice but I'm content to use them occasionally in emulation. On the subject of emulation, we're so lucky these days. I have a 4K 43" monitor that seems huge and deluxe to me, but was really just a couple of hundred dollars a couple of years ago. I hooked up a used business PC with a modest graphics card to it and I can run Steam and emulation with a gamepad controller. It's so easy and looks amazing. If I ever am burdened by having too much junk I'll definitely be all right with just a computer and a tv.
  4. Insurrection Industries has an excellent S-video cable for this. At this writing I think it's out of stock but it has mostly been in stock lately and they seem serious about restocking frequently.
  5. Ultimately I'll probably have to get this. The controls make a lot more sense for the SNES gamepad than for the Genesis controller, which is the physical version I have now. I also bought it digital on Steam and Switch and that's mostly where I play it. It's good to bring it up when I have just a few minutes and want to blow stuff up. I'd be interested in a PlayStation version just because of the controller and my love for that console.
  6. They're not a waste of money, but there are enough homebrews available that the novelty has worn off a bit and it makes more sense to be discriminating and just buy the few that make sense for you. No kidding, I looked at Astebros and thought "Huh, name's kind of stupid, don't think I'll buy that one unless it's just the rom, for cheap." Kind of like the old days when we'd buy games based on name or cover art or whatever passing fancy we had.
  7. I haven't seen anyone mention Insurrection Industries. I've got a few of their cables that work great for me. Recently they introduced some S-video cables that I really like, and they've been making an effort to keep them in stock.
  8. Having ordered things from proprietors in other niche hobbies, I can say confidently that Brad is a sweetheart. I've given money to people who ghosted me for years or forever. I've seen websites disappear and not come back. I've called and had angry spouses answer and give me a hard time. And I'm typically very patient and diplomatic with my use of language. Not a high maintenance customer here. My favorites were a couple of sellers who kept selling to others (and I would hear about it in related forums) while making me wait an eternity. Apparently I wasn't in the clique. No problems like that with Best. Just remember he's not Amazon. And I think it's good if others are able to produce some of these kinds of repro parts, etc.; not to provide competition for Best, but so that scalping isn't such a concern for him.

  10. Limited Run Games is publishing this on physical now, for what that's worth.
  11. I bought this controller recently and it supports Omega Race out of the box: https://dragonbox.de/en/wireless-controllers/commotron-gamepad-turbo-2000-super.html Also I've enjoyed using this controller: https://retrogameboyz.com/products/atari-2600-omega-race-controller
  12. Atomic Castle is interesting, though I'm sure it probably blows. http://web.archive.org/web/20211216174149/http://www.atomiccastle.com/index.html http://www.digitpress.com/library/magazines/video_games/video_games_may84.pdf
  13. I like "Hop-n-Bot" and "Bounce-n-Bot" so far. Actually, "Top & Tom" doesn't really fit the game for me; I'm an American speaker of English, if that makes a difference.
  14. I just stumbled onto this recently while browsing DragonBox Shop's site and ordered the woody-themed variation, and it arrived a couple of days ago. It does pair very easily and quickly, and the default setting works just fine for normal games. Lag seems minimal, though I'm not a crazy speedrunner or anything. The dongle plugged easily and snugly in to my 2600's joystick port and has stayed there. I'm not noticing any difficulty with diagonals on the d-pad. Best of all, I tried it with Omega Race, and one of its buttons works as the "booster grip" so I can play it without hunting down some other controller. I haven't really messed with the turbo features, since that doesn't usually interest me. This one's a keeper!
  15. For people who use gold toothbrushes in fur sinks.
  16. Flat panels so far struggle to match the brightness of crt's. I gave up on crt's years ago and I'm fine with that, but there is a noticeable difference with the Neutral Zone in Yar's Revenge, or any game that uses bright blinking or color cycling effects. It's always getting better with newer tech, but that's what I notice. Not a deal breaker. I played on a b/w tv with tons of RF interference as a kid, so I'm still blissfully happy with the way I do things now.
  17. It's cute but I'd rather have the real thing. I don't have any Legos but I did happen upon the revival of the Galaxy Explorer that went up for pre-order recently and couldn't help but buy it. Those were the Legos I had and loved as a kid and so it will be fun to mess with and then put up on my shelf.
  18. According to interview snippets I've seen around the web, the higher-ups at Activision wanted the games to be the same across platforms, but the some of the developers tried to sneak in extras.
  19. Thanks so much for this! I have the cartridge in box and I've been having fun with it, but I also use emulation so it's nice to have this rom to use as well!
  20. Thanks so much for sharing! I remember reading some history of Parker Bros.; I can't remember if it was articles on the web or an actual book. One of my hobbies is old board games, and I was especially interested in Camelot, hence the reading. In my own experience I really loved playing the Parker Bros. version of Reactor.
  21. I've put Boulder Dash Construction Kit up for auction on eBay. It's the 8-bit floppy version, and it's never been used, missing only shrink wrap. 99cents minimum bid!
  22. I put some Mega STE parts up for sale on eBay. I'd put a link here but every time I try it doesn't come out right...
