    I thought Han shot Greedo first because he was great at reading body language and knew that Greedo was about to shoot. Later on we discovered that the Force is nothing but a measurable infestation of special germs, so maybe Han had enough of an infestation to give him a bit of ESP.

      @NE146: I always took "first" to mean "Greedo never got the dignity of a first shot because Han fired first," which is an acceptable use of the word.  But you're right, Han was and should have been the only one to shoot.  It was an important character moment, which is why the changes were so tragic.  (That, and the anatomically impossible "rubber neck" dodging animation they added to Han looked distractingly ridiculous.)
