    In that case, lets start with some negative input which concerns all games but for some reason is more a thing here than the other two games. It's not English!

     

    I knew already this was the point but it would have make these games a 10 outta 10 for my opinion. 

     

    I played Zarkstars IV, Intruders and today this Orbital one and still this one scores lowest of all 3 games. Is it a bad game? No!! Not by far, its just ...difficult. you have to attack and defend almost at the same time in a very wide play field. You can imagine i didn't come far 🙁😄.

     

    It felt like i was getting better while playing but again... After a 2nd playthrough in the Retron77 it went downhill with my hi-score which wasnt high to begin with 

     

    The retron77 have a quicker pace, well games on the Retron i mean. It meant where i hit more rockets from outta space on the Junior almost none hits on the R77. Nothing with the joysticks this time. On both joystick i have struggled the up and down movement. 

     

    This time it's more important to have a NTSC environment with this game for the proper colors. Even more than Intruders. So there is a second nega... No third negative, also the joysticks i think. 

     

    Overall, if i have to choose i will probably choose the two previous reviewed games in favor of this one BUT... 

     

    For some reason i still like it. Maybe the 'worldmap'? The spaceships or the satellite? I dunno. When i popped it in the R77 i saw a potential great game sort of. And because i suck at playing games and rather just collect them it probably is my own fault i didn't come far. Thus i am no journalist or such so no skilled reviewer techniques there.

     

    One winning point however .. the goody bag! This one is a winner... Take a look at the pics. Bye now!

    I liked your review again!

    I think Orbital War has this Missile Command kind of atmosphere, something apocalyptic from the early 80s, maybe that's why you liked it. 😊

     

    A tip for you to play Orbital War and understand its mechanics... start playing only with Joystick 2, using only the missiles to hit the Shuttle that crosses the top of the screen (each Shuttle hit is marked in the rightmost digit of the Score - every 10 Shuttles you change Wave).
    Keep Joystick 2 pressed left or right (without removing your hand until the missiles change position) to switch between missile launch positions from Earth.
    Try this and then tell me which level you got to (there's a marker in the bottom left corner). 👍

     

    You can also use the website ( www.zarkstars.com/orbital-war ) to access all the manuals in English (for all the games) and see how to play with the board that comes with the game, in this case. 😉

I played with a Epix 500XJ or something in the Junior and even its for right handed people i did better than i did on the Retron77 -joystick. 

     

    If have to rank this it will come pretty close to a top 10 i guess, Maybe a top 25 all time. I have a lot of games for the Atari 2600 but were this homebrewers back in the day. Quality has so been upgraded in the last decades. 

     

    Made some pics for the difference between PAL and NTSC, it isnt worth neglecting this for an European buyer. Almost no difference. So my advice... Get your copy as fast as possible. A lot of goodies and if u are not up for playing and just collecting? Well i advice even more to buy this. Great quality box, cart and label!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

    Again about the colors on the PAL console... I really like what I see! In this case, the color of the wall was very cool! I'm curious to see how it goes in the second scene, where the ship flies in space. 👍

     

    On how to improve your performance in this game... do the following:
    Learn first to balance the probes without letting them disappear at the bottom of the screen. Forget the wall at this point. When you're trained in this and your reflexes with the probes are more instinctive... then start playing by activating the ship's laser now (keep the button pressed always and only take your finger off when the bar is pointing overload).
    Drill the hole in the wall in the center of it... don't move the wall (joystick up and down) if not necessary.

    I played this game on a PAL Atari as RetroN77 which recognize it as a NTSC should visualize. I fancy the Atari 2600 although in slightly wrong but not annoying colours because the gameplay seemed a bit paced up on the Retron. And i played in a Suzo Arcade on the European Atari Junior and on the Retron the awful included Joystick.

     

    I still dont know what to do when i have 6 dynamite sticks, seems have to do something because i keep dying at that point. But overall i like it a lot. Nice Alien sprites, the damsel in distress guy or lady who turns into an alien ... LOVE IT! But for some reason with only one screen (probably because i dont got far after screen 1) it never gets boring

     

    At this moment this game really gets in my top 10 all time ranking, like games as Ice Hockey, Asteroids and Surround. 

    Keep up the good work and i hope to see more work!!! 👍👍

     

    PS: Great soundtrack too, and also great packaging, stickers and extra's. worth every dime!

    I also really enjoyed seeing how it looks in a PAL environment (I liked the colors! Hehehe!) and I didn't know that it would change speed in Retron77.

    Why is this happening? Is it a Retron77 tweak when it runs an NTSC cartridge on a PAL TV system converting to NTSC? I really do not know.


    Regarding what to do after capturing the 6 pairs of dynamites... go ahead and get the detonator, but you have a 7 minute limit per city to do this... perhaps time is running out for you sooner. Haven't you arrived at any city hall yet?

    You can find the instruction manual in English on the website ( www.zarkstars.com/intruders ) to know exactly what you need to do at this point... or you can watch the ZeroPage Homebrew show where James played Intruders. It was a lot of fun. 😊

    As I mentioned in the chat, you pretty much got to the middle of the game in a few tries... and Tanya managed to play very well in the Expert variation, as she released the joystick button to bounce the probes. Very good! 👍

    Nebula was finished, in theory, in 9K... 😄 ...but I didn't want to lose some game details and squeeze it into 8K... so I had to put it on a 27128 EPROM.
    So... 16K. 😊👍

     

    Leonardo Santiago also helped me with Programming Consulting and Kenny Schmitt didn't do the cover illustration this time. 😉
